Re: Hiii

2019-12-05 Thread JZA
My honest advice is not too invest too much time on this project. Yes you
will learn about software development and the C++ language on higher level
projects. However the libraries in OpenOffice are not all that used on the
mainstream. I would recommend to pick up a project with Qt5 framework which
is a more popular framework for desktop application development as well as
some mobile.

Good luck

Big issue is that is pretty hard to consume JSON objects in Basic, maybe
the Rhino client could help build the macros in Javascript.

Re: I want to support OO development

2016-09-11 Thread JZA
Bare in mind most of AOO is based on C++ code. So this would be most of the
actual development time. There are many bugs that have been documentated,
so before squashing them, you should read the wiki and also consult the
list for possible outdated documentation. This is one of the biggest
hurdles to get really into AOO.

Well the issue is actually on the forums.openoffice.org doing a google
search to the direct site worked:
https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/
but typing the url will forward it to the project pages, like this:
forums.openoffice.org -> http://www.openoffice.org/projects/forums/

So I guess is just some small quirk of the site.

Most of the wiki Dev documentation might also need some review. Specially

Not sure how backspace will delete a page. That is not how is built. I
think the recovery process will attempt to get your data back even if its
in auto-save.

Also there is a backup folder that if you have it activate it, you could go
there to restore your lost file.

Re: ctrl+z not work when add a listener to keyboard

2016-03-15 Thread JZA
Even if there is not XUndoManager there was an Undo service AFAIK. Since
the documentation has move on from 3.x I would suggest to use the XRay
explorer and look for services available. I tried lookingfor legacy
releases, but only the binaries are there, I could look for old
documentation release notes regarding the API changes, but that would take
a while.

Restore the website logo

2016-03-11 Thread JZA
Hello, I want to congratulate the project for 160M download. However I
would want to discuss how long should this logo be up there. IMHO is a bit
distracting which is great for the time of the annoucement, but I also
think we should restore the logo in a set timeframe. I think 2 weeks is a
good time for the logo to be, but I just want to open the discussion about
policies for having special logos such as end of the year festivities,
download and project anniversaries.

Regards.

Mailing list stats

I wonder if there are any tools to get stats on the mailing list. I notice
markmail is no longer used and it used to provide a lot of stats on use and

Is there any other tools being used for similar stats?

Re: BUGS

2015-11-08 Thread JZA
I am not sure what you mean, could you somewhat explain better what the
issue is. That said, you dont need to 'halt' everything you do, while the
computer is downloading. Also there are advanced installation where you can
select where you need AOO to be installed.
You are presented with the option of custom installed and WHERE to be
installed:
http://www.onlinecomputertips.com/images/s89.jpg

Installation could be much faster using more ram (2-4GB) and a Solid state
hard drive, and using a more speedier operating system like GNU/Linux
instead of Windows.

But 10 minutes usually takes upackaging a 350MB software.

If you think this is too much, I recomend benchmarking against Microsoft
Office instalaltion and Adobe Photoshop installation so you can see how
much faster we are, since Microsoft Office should take u longer just
filling out the registration key, loading the DVD and getting it to
register online.

On 7/17/2015 we had a 0 download that day. Wonder if this was a bug, and

Re: intro

2015-11-06 Thread JZA
Welcome Seon the fastest and best way to develop a feature for AOO is to
create an extension. This is the documentation for it:
https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Extensions_development

You can create them in Basic, Python, Java, and other languages as well.
Feel free to go through the documentation and try to setup your
environment.

You will also be able to find snippets and mini-projects on the forum:

Hola dolores.

I am a long time contributor to OpenOffice community. I am glad you already
took steps to get in the QA project. We have just released our latest
version of AOO.

At the moment most of the QA job is the ongoing validation of bugs on our
bugzilla database, once they are approved, sending them to the developers
or testing the patches yourself should be the next stage of QA testing.

Please remember we have a QA mailing list for related jobs of those sort at

Buena suerte.

I disagree with that view. To focus on the product, well we already have
companies for that. We are not a company, we are a community. And we dont
have 'products' we have 'projects'. The difference? well to start a project
is something that people can participate, not only purchase. So people
participation is key to the project. People are key to the project.

FLOSS communities like KDE, Gnome, etc, have struggled but also succeed in
adressing the people behind it. This is just a great idea to do exactly
that in our community.

Also the last line doesn't really make sense, how can we 'focus on the new
fresh blood' exactly? You mean dedicating the release after some n00b who
just got in the project, or writing a blog post about them... How can we
focus on fresh blood if they havent done anything yet, what would we write
about exactly?

Possible Bug or issue

2015-10-12 Thread JZA
So a user working with CSV face the dificulty that it seems that AOO by
default manage dates with a 2 digit year format. This causes havok on his
data. Having a regular field with 2/20/2015 changed to 2/20/15.

The issue is that by default (might be the locale) AOO assigns a 2-digit
year format, and not even the tempalte can be change to address that.

I think shortcutting information is never a good idea, the opposite wouldnt
be a problem and wonder if this can be patched somehow by editing the
source defaults for the US locale (and others).

To reproduce:
1 . Create a date column with xx/yy/
2. Save it as CSV
3. Open it in Calc
4. Check 'Detect special numbers' (if you dont do this, the dates are
displayed as a string text)
5. See the format of the date change from xx/yy/ to xx/yy/xx

Re: Ian Lynch information needed

2015-09-19 Thread JZA
Hi Andrea, I didn't get the chance to read the memorial until now, I most
say is a great piece. However they omit a big part of his life which was
his professional one. As his linkedin page says (
https://uk.linkedin.com/pub/ian-lynch/0/a88/bb2) he was a Registered
Inspector of schools accredited by Office for Standards in Education, and a
lifetime educator in the British school system.

I can understand that maybe the goal is not to be too acurate, and on a

Feel a bit bad since I knew about this news for the past few weeks. I didnt
want to be the one disclosing the news to the rest of the community since
other members also knew about this event and probably would be better
prepared to announce it. I remember working with Ian personally and
sometimes even phisically with the INGOT project, taking trips to south

I would recomend using Draw instead. Draw is a publishing software which

In order to relearn, I need to know what every icon in 'Base' does. I
can't find it in your documentation. To make things work for Medical

I assume that you posted this to the forum as suggested, but, I did not
see your question there (it is a better place to answer these questions)

You get cells from the sheet containing them. I am unsure what Range(Y)
does, but a rough guess is that it is a defined range.

Doing some googling this seems to explain what range is:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ff836512.aspx

Just as Andrew mentioned, is the same as GetCellRangeBy[Position, Name].

So, if you just want the currently active sheet in a Calc document, you
 can do something like this:

 ThisComponent.CurrentController.getActiveSheet()

If you want a specific sheet, you can use

 ThisComponent.Sheets.getByIndex(insert sheet index here)
 ThisComponent.Sheets.getByName(insert sheet name here)

Now, assume that you want cell A1, you can use

 ThisComponent.CurrentController.getActiveSheet().getCellByPosition(0, 0)

The first 0 means the first column and the second 0 means the first row.

 You can also use:

getCellByPosition(left, top) Get a cell within the range.
getCellRangeByPosition(left, top, right, bottom) Get a cell range within
 the range.
getCellRangeByName(name) Get a cell range within the range based on its
name. The string directly references cells using the standard formats —
such as “B2:D5” or “$B$2” — or defined cell range names.

 Hope this helps.

Oh, and you can find some examples here:
