Few hours ago we went live with a countdown counter on Apache OpenOffice
project page at SourceForge, check it out:

This is a brand new feature we created for Apache OpenOffice 100 M mark,
hope you'll like it!

Does the counter shows the count of all downloaded artefacts or only the

Very nice! One little point. The Downloads served counter is dynamic - one can

The weekly counter is updated by a batch process every three hours. In
future we might work on applying those changes site-wide, for the time
being the countdown counter is just for AOO and that's why we have been
able to udpate it dinamically.

Hopefully, the downloads of the checksum files are not included in the

This would be quite interesting. Of course this is for the medium-long
term, but it would be nice to know what we can use, in terms of
technology, on the current openoffice.org site.

For example, the blog for sure strips all iframe. I don't know if the

enforces similar changes to prevent embedding content from other sites.

The trend is clear and the official counter (which includes the language

ApacheCon, so I suggest that we go directly for the 100 millions logo

Is the official template for slides already available? Speakers in the

Of course we still need someone who can design the 100 millions logo

Very celebratory! :) Nice!

The current logo is 268px × 100px

http://www.openoffice.org/images/AOO_logos/AOO4_website_logo.png

I think we have flexibility to use more length. There is plenty of
space on the page for that. For example, the International Mother
Language Day doodle was 433px wide:

http://www.openoffice.org/images/AOO_logos/IMLD_OO.png

But I'm not sure how the page will accommodate a taller graphic.

We need to stay as close to 100px height maximum to accommodate the
styling for the main banner line.

So I wonder whether we need two versions:

1) a 100px tall by 300-500px wide doodle for the website

and

2) a sharable graphic with a more normal aspect ratio version for
FB, Google+, etc.

-Rob

Beta downloads should not be counted for the overall download statistic.

But, the number of Beta downloads will be quite interesting in order to

In any case, it is not too early to start thinking about what we want

We'll do a blog post, of course. It would be awesome if we could
design a special 100,000,000 downloads logo that we could use on the

can see what I typically produce, rather bland charts more suitable

I can see what I can do tonight after I do another icon.
I should do a design so that I can update the twitter, google+ and
facebook profile as well when that happens. We would have that
graphic ready on the social media backgrounds before we make the posts
on them saying saying [yay 1,000,000 downloads], possibly with the Get
It Here version in the post itself.

I'm thinking depict growth my idea is a background made of soft
stockmarket-like upward-right wisps/lines (no explicit arrows).
Incorporate soft greens, and silver maybe.

Get It Here (With Get It Here Text)
Twitter (Background Only)
Google+ (Background Only)
Facebook (Background Only)
Homepage Header (Smaller Background with Logo Only)
General 400x600px for blog etc.
