Well, as far as I've seen, at least to have it in the Debian
repositories, there are many things but I don't have time to do it
according to the DFSG guidelines. So, I've been maintaining the
repository (almost 10 years now) to make it easier for sysadmins to
maintain their groups of desktops updated.

Remember, it's simple to update your AOO just downloading the new
version and typing "dpkg -i *.deb", but it's more complicated when you
have one group of desktops to be updated.

I understand. Thanks for your explaination.

Anyway, if the fact of having a second repository bothers the Apache
OpenOffice project, I have no problem ending it up.

No, that was not the intention behind my question. I just asked of
curiosity. Not more. ;-)

Well, the only thing that I know about snap packaging is that it is
intended to be "distro independent" but I need to know better if the
effort is worthwhile.

thanks a lot for making this possible.

I've only a little request:

In the readme you are pointing to the "other.html" webpage. You have to
know that this is a very old version of our download system. It's
possible that the links are still working. If so, this is just by
accident and will not be guaranteed for the future.

Therefore please replace the URL with our official download webpage

Thanks, too for the Debian packages. But I'm curious if for the Ubuntu packages
we are making clear and easy for users to actually download them and install?
My experience with Ubuntu's latest is that it's … not easy for those unfamiliar
with CLI.

Thank you! And a question: we receive more requests for Ubuntu
repositories than Debian repositories. Will your instructions (and your
packages, but the packages should be OK) work unmodified on an Ubuntu
 system?

Yes, absolutely. Since the package are the same provided by Apache
Foundation, there is no need to modify anything.

On time, thanks again for listing my repository at

we are making clear and easy for users to actually download them and install?
My experience with Ubuntu's latest is that it's … not easy for those
 unfamiliar with CLI.

By chance were you thinking about something like this (unfortunately
there is no English version)?

Yes. My Br-Pt is adequate enough that I could read it and understand. My
concern is just that when regular users of Ubuntu (not Debian Geeks), try
downloading AOO, they likely will be frustrated, as the latest versions of the
OS make it quite difficult indeed to bypass Canonical's very narrow gate.

 Hi. Thanks for this.

Sorry for my delay. I'm not a subscriber of this mailing list.

I think your command line instruction of:

 $ /opt/openoffice.org3/program/soffice

probably needs to be changed to

 $ /opt/openoffice4/program/soffice

 Also the PATH instruction.

You are absolutely correct. I had corrected it in pt_BR version but I
forgot to correct in en_US version. :-/

Thank you very much for remember me.

 Looks good, otherwise!

We will add this link to our install instructions.

Thank you for your feedback. Please let me know if you have any problem
or question.
