2023-10-14 Thread zhangli...@apache.org
The task is finished on
https://github.com/apache/shardingsphere-elasticjob/pull/2288.

It is better to publish on next release. Because of the module structure
adjustment, upgrade the major version is necessary, I prefer choose 3.1.0
as the version number.

2023-10-14 Thread zhangli...@apache.org
+1.

ElasticJob-Cloud module is stale for now, and the dependencies are heavy.
I prefer to remove it too and just keep ElasticJob-Lite only.

It is better to rename ElasticJob-Lite to ElasticJob after
ElasticJob-Cloud removed.

Re: Plan to remove the SPI in dev manual

Indeed, it is meaningless to expose too many implementation details in the
document.
Only the SPIs that require user configuration have practical value.
It is sufficient to retain the SPIs for the algorithms at present.

Re: [Discussion] Consider moving the algorithms in sharding and encrypt plugins to a separate shardingsphere-plugin repository

2023-06-26 Thread zhangli...@apache.org
+1.
The kernel of ShardingSphere is becoming heavier with more and more
features and plugins.
I also hope to move the extensions from the core project into other
extension projects.
It is better to use E2E tests in extension projects to solve the
compatibilitable issues effectively.

Re: Split db-discovery feature from ShardingSphere into separate branch

2023-03-11 Thread zhangli...@apache.org
+1.

Although the pluggable architecture is becoming more and more powerful, its
project scope is also expanding rapidly.

Database middleware or computing engine is the best practice of
ShardingSphere.
Therefore, the management of database status should not be included in the
scope.

Let's keep the scope of ShardingSphere as light as possible.

Re: [DISCUSS] Plan to drop support for JDK 8

2023-01-12 Thread zhangli...@apache.org
There are lots of legacy applications still using Java 8.
ShardingSphere-JDBC is a java lib, not standalone process, the LTS of Java
8 is necessary.

But there are 200+ modules in ShardingSphere, so I am afraid nobody
can undertake the costs of maintain 2 different versions.

New website is live!

2022-03-28 Thread zhangli...@apache.org
Apache ShardingSphere’s brand new website is online. With a whole new
design, this website perfectly showcases our community’s development.

Out with the old, in with the new. I think I can speak for many of us here
when I say that the old design will be missed.

We listened to the community’s feedback on the previous website’s
shortcomings and aesthetics requirements.

Thanks to all those that shared their thoughts and valuable input.

This new website is easier on the eye and more functional, and will
definitely serve us just as well in our community’s future development.

[VOTE] Donate ShardingSphere-Proxy Helm Chart

2022-03-28 Thread zhangli...@apache.org
Hi community,

Please vote about donate ShardingSphere-Proxy Helm Chart to ShardingSphere
community.

The proposal is:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/SHARDINGSPHERE/ShardingSphere-Proxy+Helm+Chart+Donation+Proposal

I paste the content below:

# Abstract

ShardingSphere-Proxy Helm Chart utilizes the Helm Charts tool to deploy
ShardingSphere-Proxy to Kubernetes clusters. Leveraging Helm syntax,
SphereEx builds and distributes the project.

# Proposal

The goal of this proposal is to bring the existing ShardingSphere-Proxy
Helm Chart codebase, developers and community into the Apache Software
Foundation (ASF) as ShardingSphere's sub-project.

This project aims to improve the delivery capability of
ShardingSphere-Proxy on Kubernetes. ShardingSphere-Proxy Helm Chart is
submitting this proposal to donate it to the Apache ShardingSphere
Incubator under the Apache License, Version 2.0, in order to replace the
existing scheduler framework.

These artifacts are currently available on GitHub at:
https://github.com/SphereEx/shardingsphere-charts.git

# Background

ShardingSphere is a Top-Level open source distributed database middleware.
However, currently ShardingSphere cannot be quickly deployed and upgraded
in a cloud environment.

SphereEx created the Helm Chart tool ShardingSphere-Proxy Helm Chart to
manage ShardingSphere-Proxy in Kubernetes. The project allows users to
quickly deliver ShardingSphere-Proxy projects for a cloud environment such
as Kubernetes.

SphereEx decided to donate ShardingSphere-Proxy Helm Chart as a
ShardingSphere sub-project with the desire to provide cloud services.

# Current Status

ShardingSphere-Proxy Helm Chart has recently completed the development of
its own v1.0.0 version, and passed the usability test. The project also
contains full usage documentation. We think that bringing
ShardingSphere-Proxy Helm Chart into the ShardingSphere community can help
ShardingSphere expand its deployment and delivery capabilities on the
cloud, and help ShardingSphere grow closer to the cloud environment.

# Core Developer

SphereEx provides a new generation of open source heterogeneous
distributed data service platform. SphereEx's core competence can be found
in its ability to improve users’ data service capabilities, by creating
upper-level standards and ecosystems for heterogeneous databases.

# Donation Source

Github Repo:

https://github.com/SphereEx/shardingsphere-charts.git

# Source and Intellectual Property Submission Plan

ShardingSphere-Proxy Helm Chart was originally created by SphereEx in 2022.
The core developer of the project is li zhuo.

Last but not least, the SGA will be provided by SphereEx.

Yes, It is better to remove authentication.
Because it is the LAN web-console, can we declare that we do not accept any
security issues in the ElasticJob-UI?

Discuss about remove ShardingSphere ElasticJob-UI

2022-02-02 Thread zhangli...@apache.org
Hi team,

We received serval security issues report in ShardingSphere ElasticJob-UI.

As you know, The ShardingSphere ElasticJob-UI is for LAN only. We may not
need to care about the security issue here.
The UI is an optional tool, all ShardingSphere committers are
backend background, they are not familiar with frontend.

Some security teams only care about CVE as their result, but do not care
about the real usage. It really trouble us.

The team wants to spend time on more meaningful things, so I want to
discuss the necessity of ShardingSphere ElasticJob-UI. It looks like we'd
better to remove it from ShardingSphere ElasticJob,

What do you think?

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache ShardingSphere 5.0.0-RC1

2021-10-22 Thread zhangli...@apache.org
Sorry, I have to say -1.

The new lib `rxtx` is LGPL which is CATEGORY X.

I find other problems which is not block issue, but it is better to fix
them into next release.

1. The licenses of new libraries are not add yet, they are:

Aalto XML (Apache 2.0)
Barchart UDT Bundle (BSD2)
Stax2 API (BSD2)

The missing licenses are all compatible.

2. he reference of `commons-compiler 3.0.11` is wrong.

3. ElasticJob has already upgraded to 3.0.1, ShardingSphere is still using
3.0.0-beta which is not stable.

Re: Discuss about remove the ShardingSphere-UI project

2021-10-07 Thread zhangli...@apache.org
The ShardingSphere-UI project is already in another project, but the
community team has no time to maintain it. The UI can not match with the
version 5.x anymore.
I think there are not enough persons focus on that.
It is better to concentrate on database core, otherwise, the UI project
will broken when 5.0.0 stable version released, it will make users confused.

Discuss about remove the ShardingSphere-UI project

Hi team,

The ShardingSphere-UI is not required component.
In new version of ShardingSphere 5.x, there are new feature - DistSQL which
can instead of the ShardingSphere-UI to help user operate ShardingSphere
more friendly, just like operate the native database.
How about remove ShardingSphere-UI and focus the kernel of ShardingSphere

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache ShardingSphere 5.0.0-beta

2021-06-15 Thread zhangli...@apache.org
+1,

I checked:

[X] Download links are valid.
[X] Checksums and PGP signatures are valid.
[X] Source code distributions have correct names matching the current
release.
[X] LICENSE and NOTICE files are correct for each ShardingSphere repo.
[X] All files have license headers if necessary.
[X] No compiled archives bundled in source archive.

But I still find some problems, there are:

1. Year of NOTICE is 2020, need to update 2021;
2. The new lib of calcite and their dependencies do not add into LICENSE
file, but the license compatibilit
ies
are
valid.

The problems are not major, I will submit pull requests to fix them.

The current configurations are too complicated, it is better to simplify
them.
The additional config center is unnecessary.

Hi All,

Please advice me if missing something.

## Description:
The mission of Apache ShardingSphere is the creation and maintenance of
software related to a database clustering system providing data sharding,
distributed transactions, and distributed database management

## Issues:
No

## Membership Data:
Apache ShardingSphere was founded 2020-04-15 (10 months ago)
There are currently 32 committers and 15 PMC members in this project.
The Committer-to-PMC ratio is roughly 2:1.

Community changes, past quarter:
- No new PMC members. Last addition was Kimm King on 2020-06-26.
- Lu Qiu was added as committer on 2021-01-02
- Weijie Wu was added as committer on 2020-12-01

## Project Activity:
Software development activity:
 - We have released ShardingSphere-ElasticJob-3.0.0-RC1 on 19 Dec 2020.
 - We are preparing to making release beta version for 5.0.0 in next month.
 - We added agent to collection metric and tracing info.
 - We have added new integration test engine in our master branch.

Meetups and Conferences:
 - Two PMC members attended DTCC and China SoftCon 2020,
giving two talks on Apache ShardingSphere.
 - Two students pick up ShardingSphere missions
which published on GSoC 2021, the mentors began to guide students.

## Community Health:

Commit activity has held pretty steady over the winter.
The reason of email and commits decreased is we are preparing

Thank you for interesting, the version 5.x is still dev mode, we plan
release 5.0.0-beta on March, and may release stable version on May.
The api of 5.x is different with 4.x. I suggest you can try and test 5.x,
and report bugs via GitHub issue. and then you can use it after stable
version release.

I find some minor problem, we can fix them at next release.

1. mvnw's file permission is not correct in mac os, we need to change the
assembly file to fix it.
2. We are missing licenses of `jsr305-3.0.2`,
`geronimo-jms_1.1_spec-1.1.1`, `geronimo-jpa_2.2_spec-1.1`,
`geronimo-jta_1.1_spec-1.1.1` in
`apache-shardingsphere-elasticjob-3.0.0-RC1-lite-ui-bin.tar.gz`. I checked
them, the licenses of them are all compatible with Apache 2.0.

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache ShardingSphere 5.0.0-alpha

2020-11-08 Thread zhangli...@apache.org
Some licenses are still missing because of we upgrade new version of Guava.
The new dependencies are all apache licenses, so I suggest we can do
release now.

I create an issue[1] to record the problem, we can fix it before next
release.
