It is probably not needed.  I've been using it to provide overiden versions
of some of the servlets to provide additional custom validation.  I could
change my code to use a filter instead.

I agree. It would be good to not export too much non-API stuff.

On another account (with the user and access manager bundles): Those
register a number of components which are configurable. We should
probably either define some metatype.properties file to have a bit more
descriptive text on the configuration page of the web console or set the
metatype attribute of the scr.component tag to false to not generate
metatype desciptors.
