Hi Nishant,

I know there are hundreds of dialects in India, but do you think creating
Hindi transitions would be better. Using Google translate is cool, but if
we can broaden our community with Hindi that would be even better.

Please Review PR #627: Add Portuguese translation for examples/javamail

2020-01-15 Thread Richard Monson-Haefel
Nishant Raut submitted this PR for review. He used google translate to
convert it to Portuguese. Can someone with Portuguese language skills
check it over? I'm pretty sure it will need corrections as Google Translate
is not flawless.

Hi,

This PR has been sitting waiting for review for almost a month. Can someone
take a look at it. I'm not sure what JIRA ticket its associated with so I'm
not sure if the fix was needed or not.

Thanks!!

Re: How can I help?

2020-01-08 Thread Richard Monson-Haefel
Hello Vahram!

Welcome to the community! Glad to hear from a contributor who knows the
Russian language!

We have prepared some materials to help people like you who are new to
TomEE at the following link:
http://tomee.apache.org/community/contributing/contribution-tips.html

Documentation translation is a great opportunity for new contributions. I
don't think we have any transitions into Russian, so you will be breaking
new ground!
Check for instance these tickets for Portuguese and Spanish. Doing the
same thing in Russian would be a good way to start! I don't think you need
to have a ticket to get started.

Portuguese :
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/TOMEE-2473

Spanish :
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/TOMEE-2442

Here are some Additional TomEE website development resources:
https://www.tomitribe.com/blog/how-to-contribute-to-the-tomee-website/

When you are ready you can go to JIRA and look through the various tickets
that are still unassigned. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like
in the mailing list before, during and after your first contribution!

https://issues.apache.org/jira/projects/TOMEE/issues/TOMEE-2496?filter=allopenissues

Again, Welcome!

Richard

2019-12-21 Thread Richard Monson-Haefel
Cool.   That sounds really interesting!

Another option: Using the TomEE Maven Plugin you can do that without
having to do anything other than create WAR file with your web application.
When you run maven it actually downloads and installs TomEE and deploys the
WAR.

This article explains that approach in detail - its easy to try for
yourself. Scroll down to the WAR First section of the article

Subject for next blog post

2019-12-19 Thread Richard Monson-Haefel
what is a common mistake people make when configuring TomEE or Tomcat? I
want that to be the topic of the blog post the week after next.

Tomcat is sometimes better because it draws a larger audience. We can talk
about TomEE being Tomcat + at the start of the story raising awareness and
championing the project.

Thanks for your help! You can filter the JIRA for tickets that are not yet
assigned to someone using advanced search. Click on the "Advanced Search"
link on the far right at the top of the JIRA list for TomEE and enter the
following:

project = TOMEE AND resolution = Unresolved AND assignee is EMPTY ORDER BY

That's really a good point, Jon!

We are so close to Jakarta EE 8 compliance it's worth focusing on that for
now and coming back to GraalVM later. However, anyone who is super pumped
about GraalVM should feel no hesitation in working that problem.

Re: JIRA about CVEs

2019-11-13 Thread Richard Monson-Haefel
If you don't mind, Richard, can you do the upgrades and create a PR? We can
let it run overnight and see how it goes.

I'm not sure as to what the best policy is for announcing the CVE so that
people know to upgrade. I think we should figure that out after the ci has
run. As an alternative you can run the full test suite on your own machine
(takes about an hour or something like that) and see if you pick up any
errors. I did this yesterday with a different PR but I don't have the
extra cycles to do it again today.

Re: TomEE GraalVM native image

2019-11-13 Thread Richard Monson-Haefel
Hi!

That would be cool. If memory serves there may be some issues with
reflection and complication but running TomEE on GraalVM should work since
it won't try to compile the reflection stuff. I haven't run it on GraalVM
myself, but this would be a really cool effort and if you can get it to
work it would be an awesome addition to the project in my opinion. Are you
interested in testing it out and working on it?

Re: Issue with Chunked encoding in tomcat/tomee with a specific file

2019-11-08 Thread Richard Monson-Haefel
Hi!

Thanks for reporting this. Is the exception dump from your client
communicating with TomEE? I'm assuming that what it is, but I want to be
sure. If exception is generated by a TomEE instance that would be a
different situation.

2019-11-06 Thread Richard Monson-Haefel
Thanks, Cesar! I'm not sure how I use that option when running the
command.  I tried

$ mvn tomee:run removeTomeeWebapp=false

Which doesn't work - I'm not sure how I use these plug-in options.
 Any suggestions?

Help with Maven Pom.xml

2019-11-06 Thread Richard Monson-Haefel
Hi,

I created a Maven pom.xml file that downloads, installs and can run TomEE
all-in-one. It works great, but the installation does contain the default
Tomcat ROOT files. As a result there is no management page and no default
Tomcat page at the root. What do I need to change to get the pom.xml to
include the Tomcat ROOT files and management page?

Here is the pom.xml in line (it's also attached):

http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0; xmlns:xsi="
http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance;
  xsi:schemaLocation="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0

  4.0.0
  org.superbiz
  tomee-install
  jar
  1.0-SNAPSHOT

${project.basedir}

  org.apache.tomee.maven
  tomee-maven-plugin
  8.0.1-SNAPSHOT

plume
-Xmx512m -XX:PermSize=256m

Thanks!

Fwd: TomEE - 8.0.0 - Release notes?

2019-11-04 Thread Richard Monson-Haefel
This user has asked about Java EE 8 conformance. Below is my proposed
response. Please review and let me know if I'm in line with public .
message on this topic.

Hi,

We are working steadily on TomEE's conformance to Jakarta EE 8. TomEE
passes more than 94% of the compliance tests and we hope to have full
compliance soon. We are working on getting TCK results to the community so
that people know exactly which tests are failing and can focus on fixing
them.

I hope that helps!

Re: how can I help?

2019-10-30 Thread Richard Monson-Haefel
Hi Gustavo,

Welcome to the TomEE : )

Thanks for reaching out. That's a big first step and we're excited to have
you! We have more than a few folks from Latin America and we are always
eager to welcome more!

We have prepared some materials to help people like you who are new to
TomEE at the following link :
http://tomee.apache.org/community/contributing/contribution-tips.html .

A great way to start is with improving documentation:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/TOMEE-2369 . These can be written in
English or any language, although we normally do English first and then
translate.

The translation of the existing documentation is also great. We have a
number of examples that have already been translated into Spanish and could
use some more! Doing translation is a great way to get more failure with
the TomEE and the Pull Request process.

When you are ready to take on other, more code-centric work, go to JIRA and
look through the various tickets
that are still unassigned.

https://issues.apache.org/jira/projects/TOMEE/issues
<https://issues.apache.org/jira/projects/TOMEE/issues/TOMEE-2496?filter=allopenissues>

If you have some new Idea just shout in the list!

Thanks!!

Hi Jenkins!

Thanks for reviewing this PR. I think the best thing to do at this point
is to add your thoughts (as expressed in this email) to the comments and I
will reach out to person who created the PR. If we don't hear back from
that person in a reasonable amount of time then we can close it and you can
open your own pull request. Can you do that?

2019-10-25 Thread Richard Monson-Haefel
Hi,

Can someone run the tests on TomEE to see if this version update causes any
problems?. It's probably find but its an update to the main TomEE POM and
needs to tested. I'm out of town otherwise I would do it myself.

Thanks,

Richard

Re: how can I help?

2019-10-24 Thread Richard Monson-Haefel
Hi Mattheus,

Welcome to the TomEE : )

Thanks for reaching out. That's a big first step and we're excited to have
you! CDI is pretty cool, I agree! It's also a big part of Jakarta EE both
now and in the future and, of course, its supported in TomEE with tight
integration with OpenWebBeans
<https://openwebbeans.apache.org/cdi_explained.html>.

We have prepared some materials to help people like you who are new to
TomEE at the following link :
http://tomee.apache.org/community/contributing/contribution-tips.html .

A great way to start is with with improving documentation:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/TOMEE-2369 . These can be written in
English or any language, although we normally do english first and then
translate.

Translation of existing documentation is also great. We have a number of
examples on CDI that have already been translated into Portuguese but could
be translated into other languages. Doing translation is a great way to
get more failure with the TomEE and the Pull Request process.

We have a JIRA ticket for Portuguese and there are still a couple of tasks
that are open if you are interested (I'm assuming you speak Portuguese but
if you speak other languages that's great! Spanish translations are alway
welcome!)

Portuguese Translation Issue:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/TOMEE-2473

We don't have an issue for translation into Spanish if that is your
preferred language but we can create one!

When you are ready to take on other, more code centric work, go to JIRA and
look through the various tickets
that are still unassigned.

https://issues.apache.org/jira/projects/TOMEE/issues/TOMEE-2496?filter=allopenissues

If you have some new Idea just shout in the list! There is a strong
Brazilian presence in our community (so you will find plenty of
compatriots) as well as contributors from all over the world.

Thanks!!

Richard

Re: Jakarta EE 8 Support

2019-10-22 Thread Richard Monson-Haefel
Excellent question and response, guys!

I think that we need to organize a campaign/project/effort to address any
tests in the Jakarta EE 8 TCK that are not being passed at this time. One
way to do that is piecemeal, everyone run tests and find things to change.
Another way would require more coordination. In that second scenario, we
would try to coordinate the running of the TCK on TomEE, document the
failed tests, and then divvy up the work so that we can, as a community,
move forward with Jakarta EE 8 compliance.

I would love to hear others' thoughts on this and people's willingness to
help. It will take a bit to figure it out all out but once a process is in
place it could be easy for others, new to TomEE, to join in and help get
this done.

David, what are your thoughts on this? If anyone else has ideas lets hear
them!

Fwd: CDI Principal injection: object is not an instance of declaring class

2019-10-14 Thread Richard Monson-Haefel
It would be great if someone in the community could take a quick look at
this and report back. It seems to be a bug, but I'm not sure.

Subject: CDI Principal injection: object is not an instance of declaring
class
To:

Hi Folks,

in TomEE 8.0.0 there seems to be something wrong with the Principal
injection: The follwoing code works fine in M2:

package leaktest;

import java.security.Principal;
import javax.enterprise.context.RequestScoped;
import javax.inject.Inject;
import javax.inject.Named;

@Named
@RequestScoped
public class PrincipalTest {

@Inject
private Principal principal;

public String userName(){
return principal.getName();
}
}

Inside a JSF page I can use "User Name: #{principalTest.userName()}" to
display the user name. (See attached leak2.war
<http://tomee-openejb.979440.n4.nabble.com/file/t376354/leak2.war>   or
https://1drv.ms/u/s!AlHB9FAlFWW_iLJlTcyBEqApE_UAvQ?e=HODheK for example. )

In 8.0.0. this is code will produce an IllegalArgumentException:

java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: object is not an instance of declaring
class

java.base/jdk.internal.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native
Method)

java.base/jdk.internal.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:62)

java.base/jdk.internal.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:43)
java.base/java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:566)

org.apache.openejb.cdi.ManagedSecurityService$PrincipalInvocationHandler.invoke(ManagedSecurityService.java:183)
com.sun.proxy.$Proxy72.getName(Unknown Source)
leaktest.PrincipalTest.userName(PrincipalTest.java:25)

leaktest.PrincipalTest$$OwbNormalScopeProxy0.userName(leaktest/PrincipalTest.java)

java.base/jdk.internal.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native
Method)

java.base/jdk.internal.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:62)

java.base/jdk.internal.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:43)
java.base/java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:566)
javax.el.BeanELResolver.invoke(BeanELResolver.java:158)
...

Doese someone kow if this code is unsupported in 8.0.0 ? How can I get a
reference to the principal name in 8.0.0.

Best Regards,
Marcus

Revise cualquiera de ellos o más. ¡Sería de gran ayuda!

pregunta!

Welcome to the TomEE open source project! It's always great to have
another Brazillian in the community!

Have you taken a look at this page
http://tomee.apache.org/community/contributing/contribution-tips.html .
When you are ready you can go to JIRA and look through the various tickets
that are still unassigned.
https://issues.apache.org/jira/projects/TOMEE/issues/TOMEE-2496?filter=allopenissues
.
If you find something you are interested in just send an email to this list
saying that you would like to work on it.

If you don't have much experience with open source let me know. I've
written a few articles about getting the source code and using JIRA that
might be helpful but won't if you already have worked with these
things before.

All the best!

Richard

This is really impressive, David! So, if I understand correctly, a new
version of the bootstrap jar would load classes provided by Maven? Is the
time savings that Maven provides the uncompressed or is it something else?
