Re: [VOTE]: Release Velocity 1.5
Hi Henning, +1, with a caveat... Users will want to see specifics of what's new with the system. Where's the change list? Will Maven generate this automatically? I suggest we have two items * a copy of the release notes from the Wiki, moved into the main distro as "RELEASE-NOTES.txt". This summarizes key changes and more importantly, dependency changes. * a maven generated list from changes.xml I'm +1 if we have those two things. As an aside, It's incredible all the work you've done, especially in the past few months. [jira] Commented: (VELOCITY-191) UnicodeFileResourceLoader for Win2k Notepad UTF-8 files
[ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/VELOCITY-191?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel#action_12467504 ] Mailmur commented on VELOCITY-191: -- Good catch this UTF16-LE / UTF-32LE issue, thx. Yes, I studied this transparent encoding a bit when doing UnicodeFileResourceLoader. My webpage has UnicodeReader.java IO class using Reader interface. But as you describe its no-can-do in a current state due to InputStream interface. http://koti.mbnet.fi/akini/java/unicodereader/ If Velocity2 is to use Reader interface then we can throw away "input.encoding" parameter, or leave it a legacy default encoding. > UnicodeFileResourceLoader for Win2k Notepad UTF-8 files > --- > > Key: VELOCITY-191 > URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/VELOCITY-191 > Project: Velocity > Issue Type: Improvement > Components: Engine >Affects Versions: 1.3.1 > Environment: Operating System: All > Platform: All >Reporter: Mailmur > Assigned To: Henning Schmiedehausen >Priority: Minor > Fix For: 1.5 > > Attachments: FileResourceLoader-UnicodeStream.zip > > > [copypaste from velocity-user mailing list] > Date: Mon, 14 Jul 2003 01:52:11 -0700 (PDT) > From: mailmur <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: UnicodeFileResourceLoader to support Win2k Notepad UTF-8 files > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii > I discovered, that files saved with Win2k Notepad UTF-8 format always > generated > an extra ? character at the start of ISO-8859-1 output text. > This was due to lack of UTF8 BOM mark support in > InputStreamReader/OutputStreamWriter classes. > I then created a inputstream implementation to skip BOM mark to overcome this > bug. > Please, find here a source + testprogram to see it for yourself. Re: Velocity Debugger
Not quite sure what you mean by a debugger. Do you mean a mechanism to see problems in a Velocity page? For parse errors, Velocity 1.5 throws an Exception providing the line number, column number, and template name of the error. The Click framework uses this info to do a nice job of highlighting the specific error. http://click.sourceforge.net/ In addition, there's a new event handler in Velocity 1.5 that will catch and return all invalid references, perhaps this is of help.
