There's a 100% vertical writing mode demo here:

(Blog post about it here:

You need to register an account on kobo to see the preview.
Note that the thing is pretty badly implemented in both Chrome and Firefox.

Yeah, I created an account, but I couldn't access the preview UI. Where did you
click or something to show preview?

But it's not exactly what is being looked for. We are looking for
websites in an overall vertical writing mode, not ones mixed with
vertical writing text. That is, there should be a horizontal scrollbar
in the page, and the scrollbar controls the page's *major* scrolling
direction.

Did you see this example at the bottom of the page?

e.g. http://info.nicovideo.jp/indies-game-fest/history/

It doesn't have a horizontal scrollbar but it does scroll horizontally.

This is interesting case. This is not what we're looking for, but this
is a case of web developers trying to fix the issue by themselves. I.e.,
they must be thinking that horizontal scroll isn't useful even if the
block direction is completely horizontal.

Kobo Taiwan for example has preview of books in vertical writing mode.

For Japanese there is a list of showcase sites at:

http://tategaki.github.io/

Thank you Brian!

But interestingly and surprisingly, most web pages in the list use
specifying only a some paragraphs. I.e., main block flow direction is
top to bottom.

Only hatenablog's template causes horizontal scrollable elements like
<http://oriha-katten.hatenablog.jp/>. This is what I'm interested in
currently. Really interesting...

Are there some lists of web sites which use vertical writing-mode?

2018-04-09 Thread Masayuki Nakano

Hi,

I'm currently reviewing bug 1358017 which tries to scroll vertical
writing mode contents horizontally with vertical mouse wheel operation
for some mice which have only vertical wheel and etc.

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1358017

I'd like to check actual behavior with actual devices on web sites which
use vertical writing-mode in real world before making it enabled in
release channel.

Does somebody know some lists of web sites which use vertical
writing-mode? Unfortunately, I don't know web sites which use
writing-mode heavily even though I usually read web sites written in
Japanese...
