FYI: I'm running a big squid cache, and everything (yum, mock, ...) is
configured to (a) use a fixed mirror and (b) use the squid as proxy.
That nicely avoids downloading the same packages over my slow internet
link again and again. Works not only for fresh installs (use
inst.proxy=$uri), but for updates too.

cheers,

First of all I must say I assume that the Minimal CD of CentOS provides the
GNOME Desktop like Debian #1 CD, based on this assumption, adding more stuff is
not always necessary. Don't think only to me, imagine there is many old and
network-less systems in one place which needs to a graphical environment like
GNOME for file system browsing, image viewing, trying GNOME, etc. The Net
install option is not efficient for this purpose and Live DVD has several
problems:

1. It is huge for people of developing and un-developed countries.
2. It need to a DVD disc and DVD ROM for install via Optical Disc Drive (ODD).
3. It is a traffic wasting option, because all the software inside it is not
necessarily used, like Libre Office, firefox, etc.
4. If Fedora can not installed on a system due to varios reasons, The DVD
option is like above case, wasting network traffic.

I think I provided reasonable grounds why the Fedora project should provide
Minimal CD. Thank you

Exactly, that's the reason. As in the error message itself, org.sugarlabs.
FractionBounceActivity.activity.desktop contains BUILDROOT which fails the
check. The generation of *.desktop file seems to be newly introduced with
sugar-toolkit-gtk3 and it make use of the prefix passed in the install
phase, the prefix has the BUILDROOT.

Anyway that's a separate discussion and thank you for pointing out the
issue here.

[Test-Announce] Proposal to CANCEL: 2017-02-20 Fedora blocker review meeting

2017-02-19 Thread Adam Williamson
Hi folks! I'm proposing we cancel tomorrow's blocker review meeting.
There's just one proposed Alpha blocker to review:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1405790

and no proposed Alpha freeze exceptions. The proposed blocker should be
pretty straightforward, so if a few people can vote in the bug, we
should be good.

Thanks folks!

 If the initial install PLUS updates is an issue there are the community
spins, also with the netinstall as others have mentioned you can make
the installed image ( and thus the download payload) rather small. As a
member of the community respins I would be open to making a few one off
minimals to suit (note I did not say maintain). Feel free to direct
requests to this email or linuxmodder [AT] fedoraproject org.

I agree that it can be very difficult to define "what you need to add
later". Gnome or even a compiler are undesirable on a stripped down
minimal fileserver with Samba capability. Spamassassin may be useful
on a mail server, but is pointless on anything else. Even the
netinstall ISO images are burdened by the frankly unnecessary X based
graphical installer. Anaconda didn't, and shouldn't, need graphical
displays to operate, and that has contributed to a "netinstall.iso" of
nearly 500 MB for Fedora 25. There was a decision made to make the
installer itself much more graphically intense and to invent a new
"spoke and hub" based installation workflow. Unfortunately, if your
initial setup now requires a 500 MB download to get the bootstrap ISO
image with all the graphical components to operate at all, it
convinces me that making the installers so graphical was actually a

But then you need to add more stuff later, right? Isn't the network
install + downloading specifically what you want a better option
anyway?

It's not the same thing. The 'minimal' image for CentOS (and RHEL? Not
sure if RHEL ships it) is an image containing packages, like the Server
DVD, but it only contains (I think) the equivalent of @core or possibly
@base. So you can do a fully offline install of a very minimal system.

Fedora has never shipped such an image.

Excuse me, I mean the network traffic. I have a internet service with only 4GB
per month, and I must use it carefully due to various needs. Minimal CD is the
excellent option for people like me, Net Install is not good enough, because it
need to internet and huge data for every install, but Minimal CD is similar to
the Live DVD option, it can installed without limit on the number and does not
need to internt.

Mass Rebuild: valgrind.h ppc64[le] R2/TOC clobber bug

2017-02-19 Thread Mark Wielaard
Hi all,

We hit the following GCC7 issue in valgrind during the mass rebuild on
ppc64/ppc64le:

https://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-7/changes.html
PowerPC / PowerPC64 / RS6000
GCC now diagnoses inline assembly that clobbers register r2.
This has always been invalid code, and is no longer quietly
tolerated.

This has been fixed in the latest valgrind package. But since this also
occurred in the public valgrind.h header it might bite other packages on
ppc64[le] that #include . If so, please just
rebuild against the latest valgrind-devel package in rawhide.

If you embed an old copy of valgrind.h (please don't [1]) then now would
be the time to remove it and just depend on valgrind-devel. Or at least
tell upstream to pick up the version from the valgrind-3.12.0-7.fc26
package (this version also contains other backports to make valgrind
3.12.0 work [better] against the latest linux kernel, gcc and glibc on
various arches).

Cheers,

Mark

[1] https://pagure.io/packaging-committee/issue/455

No packages should be bundling valgrind.h, FPC approves
bundling requests [...] If bundling is requested/approved, then the
packages should have "Provides: bundled(valgrind.h)"

Well...  some Latin American countries have really bad and unstable

updated for almost two years (last commit was on Apr 7, 2015) and is
not compatible with opencv 3 that is in rawhide.

That used to be the case in India a few months ago, thanks to the pathetic
3G service and super slow broadband. Now, with 4G, things are getting
better.

Re: Please provide "Minimal CD" of Fedora

2017-02-19 Thread Radka Janekova
Hi,

Fedora has to offer these:
Workstation - https://getfedora.org/en/workstation
Server - https://getfedora.org/en/server
Cloud - https://getfedora.org/en/cloud
Atomic - https://getfedora.org/en/atomic/
Spins - https://spins.fedoraproject.org
Labs - https://labs.fedoraproject.org
ARM - https://arm.fedoraproject.org

Are you sure that it's not in one of the other categories? =)
I know that ARM has a minimal install, can't see workstation type anywhere
though.

Do you mean like data limit? I doubt that there is anyone with too low
speed to not download 1GB overnight these days...

Best regards,
Radka

errors or bugs !?

2017-02-19 Thread Catalin
Hi.

I try to open a file with another application under Fedora 25
[mythcat@localhost ~]$ uname -a
Linux localhost.localdomain 4.9.9-200.fc25.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Feb 9 17:28:13
UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
What is the problem's:

- can you see multiple detections of Krita and Rhythmbox?
- also, I think is more right to told us: "Try to open with application" not
"Open With Other Application";
- I don't see any editor into that list.

See the screenshots: http://imgur.com/X5j3WZd
Thank you. Regards.

Please provide "Minimal CD" of Fedora

2017-02-19 Thread Fa Be
Hello, CentOS and Debian provides installation images in four options, but
fedora provides two options:

==
All is for AMD64
==
--
Net install:
--
* CentOS v7 (1611) = 377M
* Debian  v8.7 = 248 MB
* Fedora   v25-1.3   = 464 MB

Minimal CD (#1/default/GNOME):

* CentOS v7 (1611) = 633 MB
* Debian  v8.7 = 630M
* Fedora  = NOT AVAILABLE
-
Live images (GNOME):
-
* CentOS v7 (1611) = 1.2 GB
* Debian  v8.7 = 1.3G
* Fedora   v25-1.3   = 1.3G
---
DVD:
---
* CentOS = YES
* Debian = YES
* Fedora  = NO
=
It will be very beneficial for people if the Fedora project provides the
Minimal CD images of Fedora. It can attract more users to Fedora and is very
useful for people who have the internt with low-bandwidth. Currently I use
Debian due to the lack of Minimal CD of Fedora. Thanks

[Bug 1424736] perl-Digest-CRC-0.22.1 is available

2017-02-19 Thread bugzilla
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1424736

--- Comment #1 from Paul Howarth  ---
0.22.1 is a brown paper bag release (see
https://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=120289); I expect there will be
another one along in due course.
