Thanks, but I'm unable to guess/locate your username in FAS. Could you
let me know what it is?

(Does a thing exist where I could search FAS users by real name, BTW?)

libmodplug transferred, thanks! rpmdevtools was already transferred to
ngompa, I suggest contacting the current maintainers if you still want
to help out.

Nah, it's been a very low maintenance package, and is in a good shape
I think. Transferred, thanks!

[389-devel] LDAPCon 2017 trip

2017-10-24 Thread William Brown
Hi all,

Ludwig and I have just returned from our trip to LDAPCon 2017. It was a
great experience where we were finally able to meet Ilias (The 2017
GSoC student).

This conference was a great experience, and Ludwig and I both really
enjoyed presenting our ideas and subjects to the conference. Both talks
were really well received, and our material can be found:

https://ldapcon.org/2017/managing-replication-conflicts/
https://ldapcon.org/2017/speed-parallelism-safety-choose-all-three-high
-performance-data-structures-for-multithread-applications/

Another really important outcome was our meeting of the openldap team.
Conferences really help to improve relations, and meeting these people
I think has given us some friendly competition. We are all made
stronger for communities like this that bring our diverse range of
talents and experiences together.

LDAPCon 2019 will be an event to look forward too, and I hope to see
you all there,

still somewhat interested in that package, would help to keep it in
Fedora if that's not awfully a lot of work.

I'd like to recommend that we start encouraging people to use SSCG for
generating "self-signed"[1] certificates when their packages need them.

Also, just a reminder: if you are using any of these tools to generate
self-signed certificates as part of an RPM scriptlet, please stop doing
that and read https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging:Initial_Service_Setup
which
will teach you how to move that into a systemd unit that runs prior to
service startup rather than when the package is installed. This has
multiple advantages; the entropy pool is likely to be more full during
system start-up and it allows tools like virt-sysprep to safely wipe out
the certificates when making a Gold Master VM, since the system will
automatically generate fresh ones.

[1] SSCG actually generates a one-time-use CA, signs the certificates and
then destroys the private key of the CA. See
https://sgallagh.wordpress.com/2016/05/02/self-signed-ssltls-certificates-why-they-are-terrible-and-a-better-alternative/
for
a complete explanation.

Heads Up - openssl makefile and scripts for creating self signed certificates

2017-10-24 Thread Tomas Mraz
I was asked here to merge pull request that moves the openssl makefile
and scripts for creating self signed certificates to /usr/share/doc.

I am not sure this is the right thing to do as these are definitely
still used currently.

Although it is much easier now to set up proper certificates for your
servers with Let's Encrypt, it is still not fully automatable process
(it needs at least some set up at the beginning for the first issued
certificate). Thus it cannot be included for example in rpm packages
%post scripts, etc.

At least I would like to know from maintainers of packages that depend
on openssl whether they currently use the makefile or the scripts to
create self signed certificate for the service.

From selinux-policy.spec:

26 # Use the following command to create patch from
https://github.com/fedora-selinux/selinux-policy
   27 # git diff eb4512f6eb13792c76ff8d3e6f2df3a7155db577 rawhide >

28 # Use the following command to create patch from

   29 # git diff 64302b790bf2b39d93610e1452c8361d56966ae0 rawhide >
policy-rawhide-contrib.patch

So the fork is at https://github.com/fedora-selinux/selinux-policy and
https://github.com/fedora-selinux/selinux-policy-contrib

There's a document
https://github.com/fedora-selinux/selinux-policy/wiki/HowToContribute
which is as recent as it could be but it gives insight how
does it work. This document should be probably linked directly in spec
file.

The meeting is going to be held on Thursday, Oct 26, 2017 at 19:00
UTC. Please check the [1] link for your time zone.

We will meet to make sure we are coordinated and ready for the Final
release of Fedora 27. Please note that this meeting is going to be
held even if the release is delayed at the Go/No-Go meeting on the
same day two hours earlier.

You may received this message several times, but it is by purpose to
open this meeting to the teams and to raise awareness, so hopefully
more team representatives will come to this meeting. This meeting
works best when we have representatives from all of the teams.

For more information please check the [2] link.

Re: Mass rebuilds update

2017-10-24 Thread Michael Cullen
A few I've just tried to build chosen pretty much at random from the
above list:

> boinc-client
builds fine - there was a FTBFS months ago (#1251482) referring to
openssl but it's fine now

> activemq-cpp
Already tracked by #1423204 - upstream have, slightly strangely,
included the fix in a comment but not their source repo
I've attached a working patch to the ticket. (I forked in Pagure but it
seems it won't let me push right now - I guess it needs longer to sync
than I expected or can be bothered to wait!)

> dvb-apps
Was about to say this was fine until I built for rawhide and saw the
problem.
https://patchwork.linuxtv.org/patch/43705/ removed the IOCTL it uses
with the comment that nothing uses it! not sure quite what to say about
this one. It's old and seems to have a few bugs reported against it -
https://git.linuxtv.org/v4l-utils.git contains replacements for some of
them, using the dvbv5 API rather than the dvbv3 API these apps use.
Easiest thing might be to remove the function the IOCTL is for from
dst-utils.
In future we should probably consider encouraging users to move to newer
utils though.

The usual way of doing such things is to create a fork from which
patches can be merged to the original tree. Surely merging one massive
patch is much more difficult than single commits or even series of
commits. I assume you do have a fork of the original SELinux policy
source tree somewhere, so why don't you simply ship a tarball of your
fork instead of upstream+massive patch?

If you shared more details about this effort now, you would be more
likely to receive help from the community earlier.
