I have updated https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/SmallerContainerBase

Re: Need feedback on ocaml-atd review request

2021-04-08 Thread Jerry James
I am currently traveling, with only my phone for accessing email, so please
pardon top posting, HTML, etc. I also have the goal of bringing Infer to
Fedora, so I am happy to make common cause with you.

Are you aware of my efforts to build an OCaml spec generator? See
https://pagure.io/opam2rpm. It isn't finished, but it is useful for getting
started.

I can be more helpful next week when I am home & have my beloved Fedora
desktop in front of me. :-)

Re: wlroots 0.13.0 update for rawhide and f34

2021-04-08 Thread Aleksei Bavshin
The update is on hold until we figure out how to deal with wlroots
0.13.0 regression on PinePhone[1]. New wlroots drm backend code doesn't
seem to like lima + sun4i-drm display controller combination :(

The backup plan if we don't have a fix in a next few weeks is to create
wlroots0.12 compat package and modify `phoc` spec to require it.

On 4/7/21 1:54 PM, Aleksei Bavshin wrote:

Greetings,

wlroots 0.13.0 and sway 1.6 have been released today. As usual, the
update is API and ABI breaking and all dependent packages must be
rebuilt. For all the dependents I identified either upstream patches or
ETA for the new release and have successful copr builds.

I'm planning to create rawhide side-tag later today, rebuild all
@sway-sig packages and send PRs with instructions to the packages I
don't have access to. The side-tag will be merged in a week or when all
the rebuilds are done.

I also plan to prepare a day 0 update for f34 once rawhide rebuilds are
completed. Let me know if you have any concerns about that.

This seems to be the intended place, but it could probably be easier to
find (seems to show up if you search for "fedora python" then switch to
the "Scientific Python Stack" option):

https://developer.fedoraproject.org/tech/languages/python/scipy.html

Documentation on how to install the jupyter stack on Fedora

2021-04-08 Thread José Abílio Matos
Is there any place where we can find a central place for information for
installing jupyter in Fedora?

The best that I could found was an article on Fedora Magazine:
https://fedoramagazine.org/jupyter-and-data-science-in-fedora/

In this case the question come from my wife who installed today a new machine
with Fedora 34.

My suggestions was to install python3-notebook but unless you know this it is
not obvious where to search for it.

Need feedback on ocaml-atd review request

2021-04-08 Thread Michel Alexandre Salim
Hi all,

It's been a while since I work on an OCaml spec, so I'm asking the
ocaml-devel list (and because it seems inactive, cc:ing rjones and
jjames since they maintain a lot of OCaml packages.

I'm working through the missing dependencies to eventually package
Infer, Facebook's static analysis tool -- https://fbinfer.com/ -- which
is written in OCaml.

The first such dependency is atdgen, which is part of atd:
https://github.com/ahrefs/atd

Review request: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1947685

This is a single project that ends up generating several related OPAM
packages. The automatic requires/provides seem to identify the modules
it provides correctly, so... do I need to split the packaging to
individual modules, or is it fine to ship only ocaml-atd and ocaml-atd-
devel?

(My infer package can then depend on ocaml(Atdgen) instead of
hardcoding the specific RPM name, so if I end up splitting the package
later it is not affected)

On a related note, the packaging guidelines is rather out of date:
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/packaging-guidelines/OCaml/

I have a minor PR for fixing the link back to the main guidelines:
https://pagure.io/packaging-committee/pull-request/1065

but found the example spec there really obsolete; I ended up basing my
spec on jjames' ocaml-menhir.

Likewise, the spec generated by `rpmdev-newspec -t ocaml` is out of
date and roughly corresponds with the spec in the packaging guidelines.

Is there an interest in revamping the documentation and template? Maybe
ship a separate template for ocaml-dune for projects that use dune as
as its build system?

Best regards,

We should probably have a halfway decent splash page for
debuginfod.fedoraproject.org, similar to what the openSUSE one has:

Hey, it already is there in most tools, try it.

% export DEBUGINFOD_URLS=https://debuginfod.stg.fedoraproject.org/

and shortly all F32+ packages/versions/architectures will be debuggable
that way. (The staging indexer is processing the l* packages, after a
few days of churning from 0* through k*. It has a one or two more days
to go, but may already be used.)

The purpose of this Change is to configure this environment variable by
default, pointing to the forthcoming production version of the server
at https://debuginfod.fedoraproject.org/.

It's not fully open :

Please note that there is a closed-source kernel used for math operations
that is linked via a shared object called libsparse_inference.so. We
provide the libsparse_inference.so library to be linked, but are unable to
provide source for it. This is the reason that a specific
toolchain/compiler is required.

Moreover, I'm curious where an AI data model passed via --model_path argument
is available and what license it has. I worry that this one is also
proprietary.

It would need a new build tool bazel[1] as well, but it's already in
COPR[2]. It claims to need a specific version/checkout of llvm but it may
be possible to work around that.

For example, what is common for Python "namepsace" packages, e.g.
pkg_name.foo.

1) We want to test installed files, not what is in $PWD, so we set
PYTHONPATH to

%{buildroot}%{python3_sitearch}:%{buildroot}%{python3_sitelib} and we
(try hard to) exclude $PWD from it. This is crucial to ensure
the files
we actually ship are working and the installed file set is
complete.

Our macros do this for the packagers.

2) The %{python3_site...}/pkg_name/ directory and
    %{python3_site...}/pkg_name/__init__.py and
    %{python3_site...}/pkg_name/__pycache__/ and
    %{python3_site...}/pkg_name/__pycache__/__init__...pyc
files must be present in %{buildroot} to successfully run the
tests.

3) The files from (2) must be excluded from the package because
*pkg_name* owns

    them, not *pkg_name.foo*.
We Require the "toplevel" *pkg_name* package from *pkg_name.foo*.
The files are not bit-by-bit+metadata identical,
so both packages cannot ship them.

This seems like a fairly exotic case to me - okay, a
Python-peculiar problem. And a problem of stepping (not saying
crossing, because I'm not sure it is) on the boundaries of the
%check use-case I suppose.

%ghost'ing the files might be one option - I don't know about the
Ruby cache case beyond that there is one.

There is only `%{gem_cache}` (I assume it was mentioned in the
context of `%exclude`, because that has nothing to do with testing).
Not shipping this file is enough and we don't ship it just because
we don't want to ship file which looks like upstream file but it is
not the original upstream file. Moreover we don't really need it for
the purposes it is used by upstream, which is restoring the original
state of the library.

Ah, okay, it's an entirely different case then. Does this file ever
get created when running the installed software (by root)? If so,
then %ghost'ing it would seem to be the right thing.

The chances to have this file created are pretty slim end even if it was
created, it would not be trustworthy.

If they can get created (even if rare) then you'd want it to be removed
along with the package. Which having them %ghost'ed would achieve.

If it's just something that needs to be scrubbed on each and every
ruby package ever built, we could always add a buildroot policy for
it. Just like we could automatically clean .la files rather than
manually clean them in thousands of packages...

Is it correct assumption that any "random" packages can ship BRP?
Interesting idea, I have to give it thought. I guess the concern would
be that the packages for the most recent Fedora/RPM won't be compatible
with older releases without the BRP. But it should be possible to
backport it I guess.

Anybody can ship BRP but there's no drop-in mechanism to get then to
execute atm, you have to override %__os_install_post for that. So in
practise BRPs need to be enabled via central macros in
redhat-rpm-config, but there's no reason domain-specific BRPs could not
be enabled from there (even if the actual BRP lives in another package).
