Surely all your machines can communicate quite happily using IPv6

Because none of my facilities (including my desktops) are set up to use
IPv6. More to the point -- I have an emotional prejudice against IPv6
-- I am NOT looking forward to the day when my refrigerator has its own
IPv6 address, and reports to third parties how much beer I have downed.

Nothing prevents it from doing that with Legacy IP either :)

gitorious and uploading public key

2010-01-13 Thread George Hunt
Hi everyone,

Earlier I successfully uploaded a public ssh key to git.sugarlabs.org. But
then I decided to change key pairs, created a new set, and then tried to
upload a the new one.

I'm getting the following message:

This sshkey is being created,
it will be ready pretty soon

I came back a day later. Still no joy. Tried again, same response.

Any suggestions?

Hi Guys,

There was the info dev list for low cost computing that came out and I
found Aleutia through this. In Afghanistan we got some T1's:

1.6 Ghz Intel Atom (Fanless)
250 GB HDD
2GB RAM
10-13W Power Use
Accepts 12V DC

http://www.aleutia.com/products/t1

They also produce it with SSD based memory - so that should be less
likely to die out in the wild. Also was told that we could get it
with two ethernet NICs quite easily. List price $280 w/o drive. We
get reseller discounts :)

Visited them in London a few weeks ago when I was out for a couple
days. Quite impressed. Even using one in our office for our local
server.

We have a deployment to Kandahar (very hot very dusty) coming up -
will install nagios or something similar for monitoring heat
performance etc. and send that data out.

Regards,

OLPC purchased 30  machines for OLPCorps with the following specs from

So far the only bug report we have heard was the corrupted mnesia

-Power Switch: None - Unit will be set to Auto-Power-On

And anyone else that's running an XS (hi Hamilton!)... we need your hw

Additionally, I've added a 'server sizing' section. It'll be great to
get corroboration that the CPU/RAM to number of users match what you

 usage spikes.

We have looked at two machines. The Fit PC and the Fit PC2. Both were for
small deployments (25 units).

The Fit PC:
500MHz Geode, with 512MB RAM. Full specs at
http://www.fit-pc.com/fit-pc1/whats-new.html
Power consumption at the AC/DC powerbrick = 8W
Stays warm to the touch (104 F in 72 F ambient temp)
We replaced the factory installed drive with a 64GB SSD.

The Fit PC2:
1.6 GHz Atom, 1GB DDR2 RAM, 6 ports, etc. Full specs at
http://www.fit-pc.com/web/fit-pc2/fit-pc2-specifications/
Power consumption at the AC/DC powerbrick = 15W
Gets hot to the touch.

We've installed XS 0.6 on both machines successfully. The FitPC2 does have
some reboot issues (hangs) so we didn't send it to Madagascar. We have the
FitPC in the field in Maroantsetra, Madagascar, but isn't being used much
due to other issues (lack of tech expertise in the field). We'll know more
about the behavior of these once Ben (cc'd) has had a run of tests on these
machines later this month.

The Fit-PC is very close in specs to the XO-1. I have one which I use
as a firewall/gateway. It has similar limitations to the XO especially
WRT memory. The Fit-PC2i looks interesting as it re-introducing the
second ethernet port and can have more ram. It also has wifi so you
can have a WAN port, a LAN port as well as using it as a wifi AP.

Hi, Martin,

We haven't actually deployed an XS yet, so we are monitoring this thread to
have a better idea what hardware we will use when the time comes for us to do a
deployment.

For learning/testing/training purposes we installed the XS software on a
white-box PC with an Intel Celeron 2.67 GHz processor and 960 GB of RAM. It
has a 100GB WDC hard disk. eth0 is the on-board ethernet and eth1 is a 3Com
NIC in a PCI slot, with a D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G plugged into it.
