Re: [Development] Bug management and jira workflow

2013-07-30 Thread Motyka Rafal
Hello,

This clarification was needed:

" - What does it mean “fixed version” in bug report

- we do not fill it until an issue is really fixed, which means merged

- we do not want to use the field for estimation"

Otherwise, having a field with two different meanings (like ‘fixed in’ and
‘planned to be fixed in’) would lead to confusion.

Thanks!

Regards,

/Rafal

Subject: [Development] Bug management and jira workflow

Hi,

At the Qt Contributor Summit, we had a really good discussion about bugs and

jira, here is the summary:

- We have untriaged bugs, we may not be able to triage them all, but we

should keep it’s count as low as possible.

- We agreed on “triaging” definition. Triaging consist of:

- checking if a bug report is sensible. It means the reported issue is not

a result of a user mistake, use of undefined behavior etc.

- checking if a bug report is not missing an important data, so it would

be possible to reproduce it in future

- setting a priority

- optionally the bug report may be verified. It it is reproduced then it

should be accept which means moved to open state

Rationale: It looks like the most common behavior of people triaging bugs.

- Who can prioritize bugs?

- whoever ask

- we will create a special group in jira

- approvers should be in the group by default

Rationale: We do not have man power and we need help. We do not expect

anyone to destroy our precious bugs reports or play “ping pong” with a

priority.

- What does it mean “fixed version” in bug report

- we do not fill it until an issue is really fixed, which means merged

- we do not want to use the field for estimation

- we know that it can be filled automatically, it would be nice to

implement that.

- Jira workflow was designed for much bigger team, that includes QA

department, it should be simplify

- We decided that “in progress” state means that someone started work on a

bug or it have a fix which is not merged yet. Time statistics doesn’t show

anything, anyway.

- Resolved, Verified and Closed should be merged to a single state. Nobody

is going through Resloved bugs to verify them.

- It would be nice to have a transition from Open to Closed state

Cheers,

  Jędrek

[Development] Qt 5.1.0 Testing Is Ongoing

2013-05-10 Thread Motyka Rafal
Hello,

We're now testing 5.1 packages. The current version is very close to Beta 1, so
the help from the Qt Community is highly appreciated.
We have spent some time on sanity testing, to ensure that they are ready for
testing by a wider audience. Please help us by testing them.

  1. Installer packages are available here:
http://master.qt-project.org/snapshots/qt/5.1/5.1.0-beta1/backups/2013-05-10-28/
  2. The list of known issues and workarounds:
http://qt-project.org/wiki/Qt510beta1KnownIssues
If you find anything that is not already there, please feel free to update the
wiki with your findings.
  3. Qt bug reports (in https://bugreports.qt-project.org/) should be reported
with
Affects Version/s = ' 5.1.0 Beta 1'.
  4. If there are issues you think must be fixed before we can have a beta 1
release, please ensure that it is marked as required for
https://bugreports.qt-project.org/browse/QTBUG-30688 meta-task.
  5. There is a form http://testresults.qt-project.org/forms/release-testing/
to be used to communicate the testing results. Please feel free to use it.
Thank you.

[Development] [QA] Suggestion -- Setting Up the Priority in JIRA

2013-03-12 Thread Motyka Rafal
Hello,

I want to suggest another change for JIRA:
- A Reporter should be able to set the Priority starting from the Create Issue

- Guidelines for setting Priority should be provided (already working today).

Please feel free to comment on this.
If there are no serious objections, this change will be introduced soon. The
impact of the change will be evaluated.

[Development] [QA] Suggestion -- Bug Reports' Assignment

2013-03-12 Thread Motyka Rafal
Hello,

I want to express another suggestions for bug management:
- A newly opened bug report shouldn't be automatically assigned to anyone.
- Logged-in users should be able to assign bug reports to themselves.

Assigned = 'someone works or is going to work on the item'
Unassigned = 'nobody works on the item'

Please feel free to comment on this.

Hello,

In order to address some of the recent questions about error management, and to
