A monthly status report is definitely a good idea. Of course we (mostly I) have
sent status reports, but the last one was some time back. When urgent issues
are resolved I should send another one.

Maybe you could do something like the Month of the Hurd, I write for the Hurd
project:

Its quite painless (about 1 to 2 hours per month) and doesn't require superb
writing skills or similar, since I can just use a template I wrote to not have
to think about structure every month:

A month of the Hurd: **, ** and **.

Since then, the Hurd seems to slowly shed its image of "never being finished".
My principle on what I write in the news is

- ?This is what we accomplished this month? and
- ?only write about stuff people can check (for example in a code repository) -
and provide a link?.

I hope this idea helps getting ?a month of freenet? or similar going.

Best wishes,
Arne

There are security reasons to go with something simpler/safer. For example we
could adapt the auto-update system like we've adapted it for plugins. It is
*ESSENTIAL* that revocations be checked for before text is displayed, as
otherwise the text might induce the user to do something unwise. The principle
is good though...

I suggested this in my typically much more convoluted prose not long ago, in
the chat mailing list :)
