[DDN] Way to go, dotOrganize!

2006-10-11 Thread Deborah Elizabeth Finn
(A version of this item with live links s available at
<http://blog.deborah.elizabeth.finn.com/blog/_archives/2006/10/9/2402311.html>.)

Dear DDN Colleagues,

As readers of my blog know, I think that in the nonprofit sector, we
need better knowledge management...of our knowledge management. We
urgently need to take what we know about best practices and put it
online in a way that's accessible to our colleagues. The world's most
brilliant reference librarians, community organizers, and computer
geeks need to get together and structure our knowledge in such a way
that it shows up as usable answers to the questions that people
actually ask.

That's one of the reasons why I get excited about projects oriented to
online collaboration, such as NetSquared - not to mention Social
Source Commons, Idealware, and Capaciteria.

And now some folks that I don't know from dotOrganize have come up
with the Organizers Tool Crib. Maybe you should stop reading this
message, and go straight to this new resource! But first, I'd like to
point out that the Organizers Tool Crib was launched around the same
time as another of dotOrganize's projects, a report titled, "Online
Technology for Social Change: From Struggle to Strategy." This is a
team that has actually surveyed crucial constituencies about what they
need,and formulated a plan of action that is based on those needs.

Way to go, dotOrganize!

Best regards from Deborah

P.S. I'm not affiliated with dotOrganize in any way - I'm just a new fan.

[DDN] Discussion surrounding the new Journal of Information Technology in Social Change

2007-04-13 Thread Deborah Elizabeth Finn
Dear DDN Colleagues,

There's some interesting discussions in progress about the new
Journal of Information Technology in Social Change, and I'd be
interested in your thoughts about it.

Michelle Murrain's blog article is a good place to start:

"How do we do make change if we keep doing things the same way?"
<http://www.zenofnptech.org/2007/04/how_do_we_do_ma.html>

I've also written a brief blog article on the topic:

"Information wants to be free, but it also needs to be sustainable"
<http://blog.deborah.elizabeth.finn.com/blog/_archives/2007/4/13/2877248.html>

What do you think?

[DDN] Questions about the Hundred Dollar Laptop / One Laptop Per Child / X0-1 Project

2007-05-11 Thread Deborah Elizabeth Finn
Dear Digital Divide Network Colleagues,

The Ethos Roundtable (of which I am a co-convener) is hosting a
presentation on the One Laptop Per Child project on May 15th.

More details can be found here:

"One Laptop Per Child: How is this going to work?"
<http://blog.deborah.elizabeth.finn.com/blog/_archives/2007/5/6/2928278.html>

As you will see from my blog article, I'm collecting questions about
the project from members of the nonprofit technology community, which
I will then bring to the Ethos Roundtable discussion. You are welcome
to add your questions by posting them as comments to the blog article.

Many thanks and best regards from Deborah

Re: [DDN] [ciresearchers] New e-mail list on U.S. broadband stimulus

2009-03-10 Thread Deborah Elizabeth Finn
Dear Steve,

Cool!

I'd also like to point out that one of my clients is Capitol News
Connection (CNC), which has recently launched the "Ask Your Lawmaker"
initiative (AYL).

One of the questions recently posted for the U.S. Congress is related
to the broadband stimulus issue:

<http://askyourlawmaker.org/questions/do-you-support-using-stimulus-funding-build-fiber-network-infrastructure-connect-our-publi>

I'd like to encourage you, and our other colleagues, to follow the
link, and to vote up the question, if you think it's a good one!

Alternatively, you are very welcome to post questions of your own. It
will take about one minute to register (it's free), and perhaps two
minutes to post your question on AYL.

Warm regards from Deborah

P.S. I'm sending a CC to Melinda Wittstock, who is CNC's executive
director, and the brains behind the AYL initiative.
