There's a version/patch floating around somewhere that has built-in NNTP support, but IME it's a little klunky with high-traffic newsgroups. I just use the mailing list interface to the D forums, and things work perfectly. The best part of using Mutt is that it has full threading support, so if a particular topic doesn't interest you, you can delete the entire (sub)thread with a single keystroke. Indispensible for handling busy forums like this one. T -- Freedom of speech: the whole world has no right *not* to hear my spouting off!

Is anybody getting the errors with a different client? Is there a better (lightweight, more stable, etc.) Thunderbird? A couple of weeks ago it could not open my Yahoo Inbox any more, so I had to add my account again. Perhaps I should get used to reading news and email with Emacs already. :/ Ali

It would be helpful if someone could record a packet capture log (e.g. with Wireshark) of the problem. The information therein could be the first step towards diagnosing the problem. Ok, here is an Wireshark export of the error and a few successful packets beforehand. Re: NG technical issues: Is it just me?
tried the 'check for new messages every 2 minutes' hotfix suggestion (was set to 10), but it does not help in my case. correction: this seems to help quite a bit, got only one connection refused since.

When I try to select a new unread message to read, I've got roughly a 10% or so chance that it'll fail with a "The connection was refused when attempting to contact news.digitalmars.com:119." same here, started several weeks ago, very annoying. i have used the same local config/settings for years w/o probs, also, have NOT upgraded thunderbird, so the issue must be on the server side. tried the 'check for new messages every 2 minutes' hotfix suggestion (was set to 10), but it does not help in my case. /det
