With the chosen font installed ("Droid Sans", Apache 2.0 licence) the 
text balances well (or at least better than with the font my system was 
substituting) with the graphic in both weight and spacing. I think the 
capitalised D works well enough too.


I have a personal dislike of narrow D glyphs, so I'd like to move the 
swoosh a small distance from the spire to add a horizontal hint to the 
outline.


I think the text could be closer to the glyph, and higher, such that the 
D is in about the 2-o'clock position on the swoosh, which I think would 
reflect the Dlang logo more strongly.

Yes please. Although I have some reservations against the png font, it
is way better and visually pleasing than the svg serif font (or at least
the one I see).

If I didn't quite capture what you had in mind, the SVG is handwritten

As I said in the original post, I'm not much of a designer. So if anyone 
wants to improve details, I wouldn't mind. But I myself won't be able to 
improve much upon it, probably.


This also applies to the font. I just browsed through the local list, 
which is probably just the Ubuntu defaults, and picked one that looked 
good to me. I'm not attached to it by any means, and I don't know the 
first thing about fonts. So if anyone has something better in mind, go 
for it.


The D in "DConf" is currently bold. Unbolding it may be an option. I 
like it, though.

IMHO 2 needs the graphic to be more stylistic, otherwise it's 
good and simple. If it is improved, maybe it can be used 
later/elsewhere.

But I don't get the message of 1. The graphic is too 
complicated, and the significance of its components is not 
self-evident.

Appreciate the work people are putting into this, though. No 
offence to any artist intended...

At some level, none of them?

3 gives me the best feeling so far, but I think it could be 
refined.  It's neat how the "D" has heavier weight, but then the 
"Conf" looks like a different font and is taller?  That's 
jarring.  I'd go with a caps-case and shift to a darker red for 
the background.  Also, I'm not sure what to make of the icon at 
the left... some sort of landmark in Berlin, I'd hazard?  Either 
way, I think the arc that forms the counter for the stylised "D" 
is too thin and it doesn't reflect the "moons" motif of the D 
logo.


On that note, I like how 1.2 incorporates the colours of the 
German flag and evokes the moons at the same time, but it ends up 
being too busy and doesn't draw the eye well, IMO.  Hard edges 
are fine, but the angles don't give me a good feeling.  (Also, 
the zero in the year seems strangely wide.)


Jonas' is fairly striking and sticks to the colours we use on the 
site, but where did the triangular D-flower come from?  With 
that, the division of red and grey draws focus to the icon to the 
detriment of the text.  I don't mind the drop shadow, but the 
aliasing doesn't make me happy.

For me it's definitely 3 (http://imgur.com/GX0HUFI). It's a 
nice idea to include an icon of the city it's in. Well done!


The design with the German flag (or any flag) doesn't appeal to 
me. If DConf is in the USA, you don't put the star spangled 
banner on the logo either.
