Re: [IxDA Discuss] Survey Tools (pop-up type)
@John yes this survey is short, but it will focus on demographics. @Mike unfortunately surveymonkey doesn't provide on-page pop-up surveys, though I've used them a lot in other research. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Re: [IxDA Discuss] Survey Tools (pop-up type)
Be aware that you're going to see a level of selection bias in who does and doesn't complete the survey. Without knowing much about your userbase, I can't really give any specific advice to that end, but it might be helpful if you could collect a little bit of demographic information in this survey and compare it to what you know about your users as a whole so that you can analyze accordingly. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [IxDA Discuss] Survey Tools (pop-up type)
As part of a diversified effort to better understand our users (we're doing several other types of testing as well) we would like to implement a short pop-up survey on a client site. We would prefer that this not be something that would take the user away from the page, but rather something that would appear on the page as a pop-up (we don't care what technology it uses, wheher it be a hidden DHTML layer, jscript, or something else). It is a very short survey, ~7 questions. Ease of use and implementation are our primary decision factors, not necessarily cost (i.e. if it's not a free tool that's OK with us). This will directly inform our (re)design process as well as our strategy. I thought perhaps there may be some on this list who use such tools. Those who have first hand experience are preferred. Posting to the list would be fine. Welcome to the Interaction Design Association (IxDA)!
