Please type the mount command and post the output here. That will tell us where your filesystems are mounted. [slim] Re: Where/how is gain adjustment carried out?
From these responses, I gather that the gain adjustment is performed at the player, but that it is done in the digital domain. This implies that it must be a 'lossy' process and should be turned off for best quality reproduction. This is a shame, because it does seem to me that, for the analogue outputs, it ought to be possible to adjust the analogue gain in response to the replaygain value and maintain a lossless reproduction. I guess that I'll leave Volume Adjustment turned off on my main system, but leave it turned on on the other SB which is used for casual/background listening. -- peterbell peterbell's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7314 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=28462 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

That isn't very friendly to the OS... you could always try splitting a few off into a smaller folder and see if it behaves properly then. [slim] Re: stuttering at the start of each track
I have also experienced this on several different machines and installations. Currently I have the slimserver.deb of slimserver 6.5 insatlled onto Ubuntu Dapper on a P4 2.4G with 1gig of ram running Softsqueeze 3.2.1 locally. Since the connection is localhost I cannot understand how this could be a network issue as seems to be most commonly suspected. I could be wrong, though. As I say this seems to happen on every single machine I install to no matter the version of server or softsqueeze. I think I did overcome this at some point with squeezeslave on windows but I think there were other issues with squeezeslave so I abandoned that. [slim] Interesting problem/observation
Don't know if this is a bug, or something just got whacky. Running an SB2 with 6.5.0 on Windows XP. On Saturday the 7th, I turned on the SB to get internet radio through squeezenetwork. It worked fine for awhile, then I happened to look at the SB display, and noticed that it was displaying that it couldn't connect to squeezenetwork - however the station I was listening to was coming through fine. Okay, it is probably just what was buffered I say to myself. I watch it for awhile, and it keeps doing this. Connects to squeezenetwork (SN), then says it can't connect, connects again, then says it can't connect. Over and over. The music keeps coming through just fine. I finally say the hell with it, I want to be quiet, and listen to music, not go trouble-shooting. I switch to slimserver. Everything is fine. Music plays just fine. Sunday the 8th, I saw the e-mail about SN being down so I just continue to listen to slimserver. Monday the 9th. Decide to listen to internet radio through SN. It connects just fine, no problems, for a moment, then a god-awful hum comes through the speakers. Not a 60 cycle (hertz to you newcomers) hum, just a horrible hum. Oh s***, what has gone wrong now? Turn off the SB, leaving just the amplifier on. Still a hum (actually it is more of a horrible static hum than anything else). Tried connecting to slimserver - still a horrible hum. BTW - the wireless router is new, about a week old. No problems with my laptop. SB is connected to aux in, so I try playing just a CD. No problems. Turn the SB back on and switch to aux. Horrible hum. Okay, let's see if it is the amplifier or the SB. Unplug the SB. Turn the amp back on, switched to aux. No hum - no noise either, but that was expected. Turn the SB back on - go through the setup again, and voila. No hum, connects to SN or slimserver with no problems, no hum. I have no idea what, if anything other than gremlins, caused this, or what corrected it. It sounds like an old radar set we used to have when I was in the Navy. We had a small X marked on the side of the case. Every so often the radar would just go nuts. We did find that if you hit the side of the case where the 'X' was, it would instantly clear up. I don't know what the problem ever was, because nine months later it was still doing it when I left. We had checked every single wire and replaced every single tube with no joy. We even resoldered every joint, and did everything else we could think of. We even had the yard technicians go through it with a fine tooth comb. No joy. For all I know that damn radar is still doing it, except I am sure it was retired from service many years ago. In any event, if anybody has any ideas (other than painting an 'X' on the side of the SB) I would love to hear them. socialxray;144233 Wrote: Um...this is a consumer product. Not an enterprise product. It is transparent to the end user and that is all that counts. Sure, it is another process that is running on the box but it is still smaller than Slimserver's footprint. Plus it is a lot cheaper than an Oracle license. Got to roll with the punches my man, or sit the game out. BTW, I support multi-db strategies at my job and it ain't so dirt simple. i can't say if a choice of db would be worthy or not, but i can say that i think SS is starting to become a resource hog. 3 processes in all that i am aware of. over time, mem usage grows as if there is a leak. the mysql takes 16megs, the slim.exe takes an incredible 60 or so at start up, and then works its way up to over 75!!! this is the single biggest process on my system, with only the svchost close. the next closest app is outlook at 25 or so. and then this i really don't get, the tray icon is 7.5meg! why??? to power its dumb lil lights? i like the way plextor runs its tray icon, subdued when plextools is exited, but still there ready to start up. still piggy at 2megs, but not as bad. -- MrSinatra www.LION-Radio.org Using: Squeezebox2 w/SS 6.5.0 - Win XP Pro SP2 - 3.2ghz / 2gig ram MrSinatra's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2336 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=28414 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] How to add SqueezeNetwork favorite to top-level menu?
Hi, 90% of my time with SB3 is with the built-in squeezenetwork streams (Pandora stations, Live365, etc). Is there anyway to move my SN favorites to the top-level menu? I'd prefer not to have to navigate through multiple levels of menus (SN-Favorites-stream) every time I use the SB3. Favorites-stream would be better, but a 1-key shortcut would be superb! Are either possible? thank you, grimholtz -- grimholtz 'Get PasswordMaker' (https://passwordmaker.org/) 'Get FoxyProxy' (http://foxyproxy.mozdev.org/) 'Read one of my books' (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1861005202/102-7541338-1644948) grimholtz's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5235 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=28513 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: stream keeps stuttering
andy, i really appreciate the reply, but as i said the problem is NOT evident on winamp or anywhere else. it only started with me installing 6.5 and as best as i can tell, its not a coincidence. i run the shoutcast servers for the station, and we've not had any issues i am aware of. i know the .pls streams are mp3 encoded, as i set them up btw. this seems to me to be a SB issue in the firmware. as a test, i fired up the stream in winamp. i then powered up the SB2 and told it to play the stream while connected to SS. while winamp STILL plays fine, the SB2 eventually stutters. and its a strange stutter, its as if its catching up, skipping ahead, but it never catches up fully. and, if i stop the SB, and then restart the stream, (using power or just the play button alone) the problem is gone until the next time it starts a few minutes (or whatever) later. (it does the same thing with SN, but it takes longer, esp later at night) i don't install beta software, but i will install it when its released, (which i hear is soon) and i will report then. if ultimately it is a net congestion issue, then why doesn't winamp do it? is it because of this new way of sending the stream right to the device? is it b/c the device might not have a big enough mem buffer for conditions other than perfect net? if so, for problems such as this, we need a way to force the stream to SN or SS first, which in turn will properly feed the SB without the stutter, (like winamp). thanks, -mdw -- MrSinatra www.LION-Radio.org Using: Squeezebox2 w/SS 6.5.0 - Win XP Pro SP2 - 3.2ghz / 2gig ram MrSinatra's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2336 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=28392 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: Duplicate Albums
Thanks for the suggestion. I too use Dr Tag and validated that most (if not all) of my albums only have one type of tag (some are V1 and some are V2 if that matters). Regardless, nothing has changed about the tags of my albums since before I upgraded to 6.5.0. I tried deleting everything in my SlimServer Server cache folder within my slimserver installation, then setting my folders to a folder with no songs, and clearing the library. That resulted in an empty library. But when I pointed my playlists folder back to where I actually keep my music (on an external hard drive) it rescanned and each song showed up three times again. I'm dumbfounded. -- bossman bossman's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7853 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27746 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
