Thanks for the responses.

The Creative device looks nice, but its too big, too expensive, and
anyway isn't the tivoli that I've just bought!

There are at least two pictures of people using this setup on the forum
- how have you solved the interference problem?

And what is that aerial connector on the back?

I have tried using my SB3 as an alaram clock connected to Squeezenetwork
but I have had intermittent problems where it fails to connect to the
stream and so does not play any music to wake me up! Sometimes an
old-tech alarm clock is more reliable!

 Ceejay

Ceejay Of course, sorry about suggesting something you don't have
and not talking about what you do have! (I guess I was really just
contributing another idea to the thread generally.)

As for the interference problem, I didn't do anything at all - the
Creative device seems not to be affected. I'd previously tried using
the radio in a JVC EX-A1 Compact Component system with the SB3 on top,
and that was hopeless; but the Creative device just worked - there
isn't any significant interference.

And I'm using the supplied dangly bit of string external aerial, not
any thing more sophisticated. I don't know much about the physics of
radios, but this implies that the interference may not to be to do
with the aerial itself; rather, I guess some internal component that
matters is screened better in the Creative device than on other
radios??? (At this point, all becomes shrouded in mystery as far as
I'm concerned!)

The Creative user manual says that the rear panel aerial connector is
an FM Antenna 'F'-type jack, 75 ohms, and you can attach an adapter
(included) that provides what looks for all the world like the sort of
socket you get on the back of a VCR where you plug in the VCR end of the
cable that connects to the aerial socket on the TV.

Is there a format that allows for tags as well as a 1-1 copy of a cd ?

I think I have already spent far too much of my time trying to get the

Ethernet is fine.

Wireless stopped about three months ago and that is it.

Any ideas would be helpful.

It sees the SSIDs but will not connect even without encryption enabled.

[slim] Re: rescan at launch

2006-12-21 Thread shlea

I installed Slimsever a few days ago and have an integration with
iTunes.

After having done changes in iTunes I wanted the updates immediately,
so I requested a manual rescan, using the option look for any
changes.

First of all, while the re-scan was in progress all my iTunes playlists
were deleted, and then later rebuilt.

Secondly, it took several hours to complete (I have approx 36.000 songs
in my library).

Is this normal, and is there a faster way to update the SS libtary
after changes in iTunes ?

[slim] Squeezebox G problem w/ 6.5.1

2006-12-21 Thread wesg

I posted this message on the Infrant forum as well, but thought it might
help to post here as well in case this is a more generic problem.

http://www.infrant.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7974

I have 3 squeezeboxes on my network, a Model3, Model2, and an original
Squeezebox G.

I am running Slimserver on the ReadyNAS v6.5.1-10479 as supplied in the
3.01c1-p6 for the Infrant box.

The set up works properly on the Squeezebox 3 and the model 2. However,
while the navigation works properly on the Squeezebox G, whenever I ask
the unit to play a song, it displays an error that it is unable to open
the file.

I also have Slimserver running on a XP box. This is version
6.5.0-9916-WinXP. The Squeezebox G works properly when connected to
this server.

Does anyone know if there is an issue with this build of 6.5.1 and a
Squeezebox G or if it has something to do with Infrant's
implimentation.

Thank you

Wes G

Not that familiar with Infrant's implementation, but the problem is
likely due to an inability to transcode to mp3 or wav format. You may
not have LAME installed (necessary to transcode to mp3), perhaps you've
turned off certain file types (for instance, are you forcing slimserver
to feed flac as flac?), or maybe you have bitrate limiting turned on
(with no LAME installed).

It would probably be helpful to know what format your files are in.

[slim] IPv6 through SB3 bridge broken?

2006-12-21 Thread smagnuson

Hello,

I'm using a SB3 in bridge mode as follows:

Internet -- Linksys WRT54GS -[wireless]- SB3 -[wired]- Mac Mini

I'm running 6.5.0 SlimServer on the Mac Mini. Everything works fine
except for IPv6. I can pass unicast and multicast IPv6 traffic from
the mini towards the Internet through the SB3 bridge fine (I see the
traffic using tcpdump on the WRT), but only multicast IPv6 traffic
passes from the WRT through the SB3 bridge to the Mac Mini. I know
this because tcpdump on the mini shows only traffic destined to IPv6
multicast addresses (ff02::...) arriving on the mini. Unicast IPv6
traffic is dropped at the SB3 bridge. If the mini is connected
directly (wired) to an ethernet port on the WRT, IPv6 unicast and
multicast work fine in both directions. All IPv4 traffic works fine in
both directions, of course.

Why don't I just use the mini's Airport Extreme card and connect to the
WRT wirelessly? Because there is a known problem with Airport Extreme
cards and Linksys routers - the wireless connection drops once a day or
so and manual intervention is required to bring it back up. And, yes,
IPv6 unicast and multicast work fine in both directions when the mini
talks wirelessly directly to the WRT (other than the irritating random
connection drop problem).

Anyone else out there running IPv6 through the SB3 bridge?

Regards,

Steve

You have two choices:
1) Use iTunes and tell it how to find all the music. I don't use
iTunes, so I can't give you more details on this, but Slimserver is
supposed to be able to read its database.
2) Make a folder and put aliases to both your disks in it, then tell
Slimserver to use that folder as its music folder.

I've disabled both the Windows firewall and the Check Point Integrity

I have WEP 128 bit security enabled on the router and have verified the
key entered on the SB3 on many occasions, overcoming also (via the
forum) that the lower case Alpha keys make no difference to those shown
in upper case on the router. For the avoidance of doubt, I have also
entered the WEP key without a pass phrase if that should make any
difference and have rebooted router and SB3 in between attempts.

Error message I get every time is Problem: Cannot connect to wireless

My router (LinkSys WRT54G) has you enter a passphrase from which it
generates four different WEP keys. I had it set to use the third one in
the list, and had my other wireless devices set up with the same hex
string.

When I reconfigured the router to use the first hex string in the list,
updated the configuration of my other devices likewise, and put that hex
string into the SB3, all was well.

[slim] Re: IPv6 through SB3 bridge broken?

2006-12-21 Thread smagnuson

Mark,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I'll follow your advice, but I don't hold
out too much hope that it'll be fixed. I did a bug search just now and
found Bug 364: IPV6 Support for SB with a status of Resolved:
WONTFIX.

Nevertheless, the problem I'm having seems to be a genuine issue with
the bridging firmware. So, I'll open a bug report anyway.

Hmm - well with IPv6 slowly being deployed, the player will have to
support it sooner or later.

[slim] Very slow re-scan of iTunes library

2006-12-21 Thread shlea

I installed Slimsever a few days ago and have an integration with
iTunes.

After having done changes in iTunes I wanted the updates immediately,
so I requested a manual rescan, using the option look for any
changes.

First of all, while the re-scan was in progress all my iTunes playlists
were deleted, and then later rebuilt.

Secondly, it took several hours (4) to complete (I have approx 36.000
songs in my library).

Is this normal, and is there a faster way to update the SS libtary
after changes in iTunes ?

Regards,
Svein-Helge

That bug was filed against the SB1 generation of hardware, and it was marked
WONTFIX because the hardware wasn't beefy enough. The SB2 and SB3 are much
more powerful, so it's worth filing another enhancement request.
Particularly since it is intended to be used as a bridge (the SB1 wasn't).

[slim] Re: Very slow re-scan of iTunes library

2006-12-21 Thread SteveEast

Using iTunes 7.0.1 and SS 6.2.1, I find it takes about 30 minutes to
re-scan my 3200 songs regardless of the type of scan. I do have artwork
embedded in almost every song, I'm sure that doesn't help. The numbers
would seem to roughly match yours.

XPSP2 on a 1.8GHz P4, music (mostly ALAC, some AAC, 1 MP3) on a Buffalo
1GB TeraStation (which no one could accuse of being too fast).

Check the MAC address in the SB settings matches that printed on the
bottom of the unit. If it doesn't it has been corrupted and you can
read:

[slim] Server can't find player

2006-12-21 Thread Garnez

I've had my Squeezebox v3 for about half a year, and until now it have
worked properly. However now suddenly the player can't locate the
server anymore? There is no problem with the wireless connection as I
can access Squeezenetwork. I have tried to reconfigure the network
player settings and I guess the problem is the IP adress for the
server. I enter 192.168.001.004 as this is what the slimserver settings
displays under the menu serversettings. This however doesn't work. I
have even entered the wireless router settings and can see that
192.168.1.3 and 192.168.1.4 is in use. During the player setup I can
see that DHCP allocates 192.168.1.3 which I guess is for the internet
connection. Left is 192.168.1.4 but as mentioned this doesn't seem to
work. I've been through the getting started manual several times.

Connecting to SlimServer

1. If SlimServer isn't already running, start it now. Your player will
scan your local network to find the computer that's running SlimServer.
If you started SlimServer after starting setup, you may need to scroll
to find it.
2. Select the computer you want to use.

But somehow I don't seem to get the choice of selecting my computer.
I'm prompted for an IP adress of the server instead.

As one can tell my knowledge is rather limited when it comes to network
settings. I hope that someone is able to help me out.

[slim] Re: Server can't find player

2006-12-21 Thread Ross L

If you don't see the option of selecting your computer, this likely
means the firewall software on your PC isn't allowing SlimServer to
'broadcast' that option to your player. This means UDP 3483 is being
blocked.

What firewall software are you using? Probably an update was received
or something that removed the exceptions that have been in place until
now.

How did you upgrade? You need to uninstall pre-6.5 versions, then
delete the SlimServer directory.

If you didn't, uninstall, delete the directory, and reinstall
SlimServer.

[slim] Re: Browser refresh going mad!

2006-12-21 Thread Brian Ritchie

Thought I ought to bring some closure to this.
In reverse order:

I reckon that the browser refresh was going mad when I was pausing (not
stopping) near the beginning or end of a track. (I'm sure I'm not alone:
I'm popping out of the room, and just can't bear to miss part of the
next song - and don't yet have a Squeezebox in the loo :-)) I'm trying
to get out of the habit (of pausing, I mean :-) - I stop near the start
of the next track instead.)

I couldn't work out how to use tag editing to get rid of the clicks I
was finding at the start of some tracks; however, last night I
installed the most recent nightly, and - yippee! - no more clicks.

My mac address got corrupted recently, and my SB3 would not connect to

[slim] Re: Any UK Users using SB3 wireless with Sky Broadband router?

2006-12-21 Thread Gazza

Hi Geoggy,

I switched over to Sky broadband a few months ago and I can assure you
that the router supplied (Netgear DG834GT) works fine for me with my
wireless SB3.

The worry I had was that Sky supply the router pre-configured with an
SSID etc including using WPA (as opposed to WAP) as a pre-requisite to
connect to their service.

I was planning to buy a Roku soundbridge however I found that this only
has support for WAP but the SB3 handles WPA fine and setup was a
breeze.

hope this helps
