Re: [slim] Now Playing not keeping up

2008-03-02 Thread brdbointx

I noticed that slack.com stations are not accurately updating on the now
playing screen. For example I had on the Depeche Mode station. First
song was Prescious. This showed up/ If you right arrow over for more
info and arrow down it showed the next song would be by the cure.

When the next song came up it was the cure - but the display still said
Depeche Mode - Prescious. It did this a number of times. It seemed to
update every other song.

This might be a squeezenetwork issue

Re: [slim] Wife's music accessible easily and quickly??

2008-03-02 Thread SilverRS8

A new idea to solve this?
We have playlists ofcourse where we create different once for each
family member but isn't it a good idea to have Genre playlists/filters?
Meaning the playlis/filterst would only consist of the in/exclusion of
genres not actual tracks. This way you could create a playlist only
including 'child music'. If you have tagged albums with i.e. genre;
'wife' you could easily create playlists including wife and a playlist
excluding wife.

Before browsing by album with the controller you could select such a
playlist (or is a better name; filter?), then only browsing the albums
you would like to see.

I've got a problem when dealing with compilation albums. If I scan just
the various artists folder with squeezecenter and then run the album
catalog creator it works fine. Albums show as various Artists as the
top line and then the album name below this.
If I scan my music folder so that various artists is a subfolder then
the album isn't shown as various artists but as one of the artists on
the album. I've attached the screenshots to show what's happening.
Anyone help?

Thats strange behavior indeed. Can you provide a screenshot from a

Re: [slim] Fast-forward/rewind redesign

2008-03-02 Thread muvster

The one thing I really miss at the moment is the ability to jump around
in transcoded material by clicking in the SqueezeCenter track timeline
(like I can for native streams). Whatever changes are made to FF/REW
functionality, I'd be very happy if only support for that was added.

I agree that the current FF/REW functionality is a bit awkward, mostly
because of the dual skip/scan functions of the remote control buttons
and the stop-start audio feedback. But I'd be more than happy to use
Song Scanner for my scanning needs, as long as I get to jump through
transcoded tracks.

Thanks for a wonderful product by the way (I'm a new SB3 owner). I
haven't been this excited about a piece of technology since I don't
know when.

If you're looking for random set of letters you can remember, I'd
suggest using what the spooks used to call a book code.
Go through your favorite books, find a sentence that's really
memorable, then just use the first character of each word in the
sentence - so it was a dark and rainy night becomes iwadarn, hmm...
that one's got a word in it, so bad example, but hopefully you get the
idea.

If you've got anything that truly needs to be private, don't leave it
somewhere where someone breaking into your wireless will expose it.

Steve Gibson is a very talented security amateur who sometimes
overreacts, but if he's wound up about something, it's at least
figuring what's up. IMHO he was right about the Win implementation of

I'm attempting to listen to my premium sky.fm new age stream MP3

stream keeps stopping and rebuffering. Worse, when it happens, the unit
seems to freeze and not respond. Rebooting doesn't help. I've upgraded

the buffer size as recommended in the FAQ). No dice. My other internet
radio is fine (also wireless). My ISP is u-verse (10MBsdown) running
wireless-g off a 2wire Router/Gateway. Any thoughts? I might try a

don't want to spend the money if I'm going to have the same

[slim] Arg. Hard Drive disaster wreaking havoc (Internet radio, favorites, etc)

2008-03-02 Thread Mike Anderson

I had all my music stored on an external hard drive, which just
failed... I had it backed up, so I will hopefully be able to restore
my music library, but this failure seems to be wreaking havoc on other
parts of Squeeze Center.

I had Squeeze Center installed on my C Drive, which is still working
fine. So why can't I connect to RadioIO or Live365 anymore? Trying to
select RadioIO or Live365 simply results in a Connect timed out
message. They had been working fine up 'til now.

And why are my carefully-edited favorites now listed as empty?

In SlimServer, my favorites and other preferences used to be stored in
a .pref file. Does Squeeze Center store these settings in a file
somewhere?

If I reinstall Squeeze Center, will all my favorites etc. be gone for
good?

Any help during this trying time would be greatly appreciated.

Re: [slim] Announce: Album Catalog Creator for SlimServer

2008-03-02 Thread killie99

A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the
results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41597

Question: Does Album Catalogue Creator (RC5+) create a trustworthy
output?

- Yes
- Yes but with minor issues
- No
- It does not work at all

I'm begining to think this is a squeezecenter problem. If I do a scan of
my music directory, sometimes some of the compilation albums show as not
being by various artists but show as by one of the artists on the
album. When this happens the album catalog creator shows the
compilation albums as by 1 of the artists on the album rather than
various.

[slim] Inconsistent scanning of the music library

2008-03-02 Thread killie99

I've come across a problem with compilation albums and the scanning of
them. Shown below are 2 scans I have just performed on my library with
having made no changes to anything between the scans. Compilation
albums seem to sometimes be reported as by various artists and other
times they get reported as by all the artists.
I'm using the following:
SqueezeCenter Version: 7.0 - 17737 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252
Server IP address: 192.168.0.1
Perl Version: 5.8.8 MSWin32-x86-multi-thread
MySQL Version: 5.0.22-community-nt

Not sure if this has always been a problem or if I have only just
noticed this. It causes a problem when using the album catalog creator
as it thinks the album is by one of the artists rather than various
artists. Anyone else seen anything similar?

[slim] Duet: Search large collection?

2008-03-02 Thread SlimTim

I'm considering buying the Duet and have a fairly large MP3 collection
(about 50,000 tracks). Browsing through such a large collection is not
a good solution (using the remote).

I need good searching facilities. Can someone please consider the
following and give me some feedback:
1) Search for sub strings like (example):
Want to find Robbie Robertson - Somewhere Down The Crazy River
but I can't remeber all that. I think it is
Tom Robbinson - Crazy River. Browsing either artist or track won't
give me access to the track. A search for tracks containing Crazy
River would find it.

2) Is it support for folder structure as well as the ID3 tags? I mean
can you browse the folder structure?

3) if search works, I guess it's search in the ID3 tags are supported.
Is it possible to search the folder structure as well (file/folder
names)?

4) Is it possible to download the users manual for the Squeezebox Duet?
Reading it will always give me a good idea how the product works.

Looks like Favorites are stored in the Playlists Folder. So if that

Right. SqueezeCenter doesn't write tags -- it uses the tags you have.
If your TAG program won't do it, you should try one of the other Mac
programs listed in the wiki, such as Media Rage, MusicBrainz, or
ExcelTagger. I don't think you've ever said what format your files are,
but if they're FLAC, you could also use the metaflac utility that comes

[slim] Stop after this song?

2008-03-02 Thread bugmenot

Is there a way to tell SlimServer to continue playing the current song,
to its end, but stop play after it finishes, retaining the contents of
the playlist, and the current position within it?

Either a built-in way or a plugin?

In case anyone's curious, here's why I want such a feature:

One thing I dislike is stopping (or pausing) in the middle of a song.
So if I want to stop, but retain my playlist, I will often try to time
clicking stop with the end of the current song.

This is (believe it or not) a little stressful to me. Especially if
I'm not familiar with the current song. And in fact, usually the only
time that I want to retain my playlist is when I've got a bunch of new
(to me) songs queued up, to listen to the first time. In this case,
I'm generally not familiar with the current song, and so it's
stressful.
