Re: [slim] Wife's music accessible easily and quickly??
A new idea to solve this? We have playlists ofcourse where we create different once for each family member but isn't it a good idea to have Genre playlists/filters? Meaning the playlis/filterst would only consist of the in/exclusion of genres not actual tracks. This way you could create a playlist only including 'child music'. If you have tagged albums with i.e. genre; 'wife' you could easily create playlists including wife and a playlist excluding wife. Before browsing by album with the controller you could select such a playlist (or is a better name; filter?), then only browsing the albums you would like to see. The one thing I really miss at the moment is the ability to jump around in transcoded material by clicking in the SqueezeCenter track timeline (like I can for native streams). Whatever changes are made to FF/REW functionality, I'd be very happy if only support for that was added. If you're looking for random set of letters you can remember, I'd suggest using what the spooks used to call a book code. Go through your favorite books, find a sentence that's really memorable, then just use the first character of each word in the sentence - so it was a dark and rainy night becomes iwadarn, hmm... that one's got a word in it, so bad example, but hopefully you get the idea. If I do a scan of my music directory, sometimes some of the compilation albums show as not being by various artists but show as by one of the artists on the album. When this happens the album catalog creator shows the compilation albums as by 1 of the artists on the album rather than various. +---+ |Filename: squeeze2.JPG | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4472| +---+ -- killie99 Musical Fidelity KW250S, Impulse H2 speakers oh, and an SB3 killie99's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8337 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41597 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Inconsistent scanning of the music library
I've come across a problem with compilation albums and the scanning of them. Shown below are 2 scans I have just performed on my library with having made no changes to anything between the scans. Compilation albums seem to sometimes be reported as by various artists and other times they get reported as by all the artists. I'm using the following: SqueezeCenter Version: 7.0 - 17737 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252 Server IP address: 192.168.0.1 Perl Version: 5.8.8 MSWin32-x86-multi-thread MySQL Version: 5.0.22-community-nt Not sure if this has always been a problem or if I have only just noticed this. It causes a problem when using the album catalog creator as it thinks the album is by one of the artists rather than various artists. [slim] Duet: Search large collection?
I'm considering buying the Duet and have a fairly large MP3 collection (about 50,000 tracks). Browsing through such a large collection is not a good solution (using the remote). I need good searching facilities. Can someone please consider the following and give me some feedback: 1) Search for sub strings like (example): Want to find Robbie Robertson - Somewhere Down The Crazy River but I can't remeber all that. I think it is Tom Robbinson - Crazy River. Browsing either artist or track won't give me access to the track. A search for tracks containing Crazy River would find it. 2) Is it support for folder structure as well as the ID3 tags? I mean can you browse the folder structure? 3) if search works, I guess it's search in the ID3 tags are supported. Is it possible to search the folder structure as well (file/folder names)? 4) Is it possible to download the users manual for the Squeezebox Duet? Reading it will always give me a good idea how the product works. -- SlimTim SlimTim's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15812 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44097 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Apple will not help you remove the DRM on existing tracks. However, some tracks are now available without DRM at a higher price (so called iTunes Plus) - you can check via iTunes which of your tracks can be upgraded. -- radish radish's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=77 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44096 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Stop after this song?
Is there a way to tell SlimServer to continue playing the current song, to its end, but stop play after it finishes, retaining the contents of the playlist, and the current position within it? Either a built-in way or a plugin? In case anyone's curious, here's why I want such a feature: One thing I dislike is stopping (or pausing) in the middle of a song. So if I want to stop, but retain my playlist, I will often try to time clicking stop with the end of the current song. This is (believe it or not) a little stressful to me. Especially if I'm not familiar with the current song. And in fact, usually the only time that I want to retain my playlist is when I've got a bunch of new (to me) songs queued up, to listen to the first time. In this case, I'm generally not familiar with the current song, and so it's stressful. -- bugmenot bugmenot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15664 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44100 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Latest firmware upgrade?
So, I just got a message to upgrade the firmware on my SB3, so I did. After that I can connect to the SqueezeNetwork but it is no longer connecting to the SqueezeCenter. I'm doing it via ethernet. Also, for some reason, I had all of my favourites wiped out. Seems like my profile on the SqueezeNetwork disappeared as well so I had to create the same login again. Last week we moved and upgraded the SqueezeNetwork services in to a new data center. Try the Sleep button on the remote. This has an option to sleep after current song which should mean it will switch off (i.e. go to standby mode) at that point. Without trying it I can't be sure it will retain the current playlist, but my guess is it will. davep -- davep davep's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44100 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Firmware upgrade problems
So all weekend, every time I try to play something on Pandora, it tells me I need to do a firmware upgrade. Then it works for a while. Then, I switch back to SlimServer, and again, it tells me I need a firmware upgrade. And so on... Meanhile, I'm experiencing all sorts of problems. My Squeezebox can no longer play ogg files. Whats patronising is someone telling me I don't have a problem when I DO Do you think I'm that naive or such an idiot that I don't know when a knob is working or not. I also contribute to many forums (lasers, engraving , high end audio, v8 cars , signage)and also give of my unpaid time where I can and expect no reward , however what I post is constructive. Im not just a leech! I repeat , I was hoping for a DIY solution , I'm in South Africa , 10 000km away from America and I'm in Cape Town , 1600km away from the agents in Johannesburg. The local agents had to purposely import a unit for me as they dont carry stock. So to get a replacement or fix is a mission , hence my asking here for some advice.
