Re: [slim] Softsqueeze Version

On the SC 7 Main Web page, on the left pane, choose the *Extras* option,
then on the options that come up, choose *Softsqueeze* and then *Click
to install and run SoftSqueeze.*

The 3.5 version from sourceforge needs updating I think, I could not
get it to work either with SC 7 some weeks ago.

[slim] Loving SqueezeCentre 7, however....

2008-03-06 Thread Rangdo

The library scan time is way longer than 6.5.0. My server is a lowly
1GHz VIA Epia but a full rescan took roughly 45 minutes. My first scan
on 7 completed last night, took 48 minutes for the music and 1:05 for
the cover art

All I've done is uninstall 6.5.0 and install 7, no other system-wide
setting changes - wassup with that 2 hour scan time?

I like the new Default skin but could there be a stop button included
:D

All my plugins (LazySearch, Alien, Magnatune, Weather Date Time), even
though they're beta versions, appear to be working fine, the only one I
couldn't test yet was LazySearch due to the scan not completing until
after I'd retired for the evening :)

[slim] Some minor issues with SC7

2008-03-06 Thread danco

I've just installed SC7 on an iMac running OS 10.4.11.

There are a couple of minor issues.

1. I seem to remember that there were lots of options to configure the
menus in 6.5. In 7 I can only see top-level options. For instance,
currently the only thing I want to do in Music Library is go to the
Music Folder, so I would like to disable the others.

2. My Web browser is Safari. On all the Squeezecenter pages I look at,
there seems to be something that does not load, though it can't be
important. For instance, a page will show loading ...; completed 2 of
3 or loading ...; completed 47 of 48. The pages never load
completely, there is always exactly one item missing.

That's fair enough I guess ;)

I do a full rescan at 4am every day so it won't impact me too much.

And in case you ask, I do a full vs a changed scan as I've had the odd
problem in the past where I've changed a tag and it hasn't picked up
correctly or given me slightly erratic results when just doing a
new/changed scan. It was a while ago now so I may try it again.

So how about that stop button then ? :)

Yes, Lazy Search should be pretty stable as I've not had to change it

the server is stabilised, but it won't be significantly different to

[slim] Can't connect SB to SC

2008-03-06 Thread frazzmac

I'm having serious issues getting my Squeezebox (firmware 86) to connect
to SqueezeCenter (V7.01).

Both my PC and the SB are on my wireless network. The problem isn't
with my wireles connection - I can stream internet radio all day
without a problem.

I don't think it's a fundamental network issue as occasionally the SB
will make brief contact with SC and I can select tracks and play music.
But the SB goes blank after a minute or two and won't reconnect. I try
restarting SC, power cycling the SB but nothing.

I've used netstat and tcpview on the PC and can't see anything that's
hogging SC ports. When it is connected, tcpview shows the connections
as you would expect, then they mysteriously drop.

Disabling the Windows firewall has no effect. I have no other firewall
enabled, either on the PC (I uninstalled MacAfee in case it was causing
a problem even when disabled) or on the router.

Any help much appreciatedhave trawled the forums without any
success.

Thanks,

Fraser

Re: [slim] Can't connect SB to SC

2008-03-06 Thread Phil Leigh

Fraser - am I right in assuming that you have a wireless SB talking to a
router and a wireless PC (with SC on it) talking to the router?

IS it possible for you to temporarily try wiring either the PC or the
SB (or preferably both) to the router?
That would tie the problem down to a wi-fi issue.
What format are your files? lossy or lossless.
Streaming Internet radio isn't really an indication of how well SB/SC
will work in most cases.

1. The web UI is nicer: e.g. drag and drop to rearrange tracks in the
current playlist.
2. If you have multiple players (or one player and SoftSqueeze) you can
have them playing the same thing at the same time in sync. This feature
now works better.
3. You can play Music Services (i.e. Pandora, Rhapsody, Slacker, etc)
while connected to the SqueezeCenter rather than having to disconnect
and connect to SqueezeNetwork. Also various preferences are
synchronised between your local SqueezeCenter and SqueezeNetwork.
4. SqueezeBox Controller (the new remote with a screen).

Re: [slim] Announce: Album Catalog Creator for SlimServer

2008-03-06 Thread SilverRS8

A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the
results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41597

Question: Does Album Catalogue Creator (RC5+) create a trustworthy
output?

- Yes
- Yes but with minor issues
- No
- It does not work at all

I am currently working on NAS/remote server support. Support for a
remote windows server is already working. For Windows servers, the file
paths in the DB are stored using the drive letter the files are on.
For ACC to access the album art files on the remote Windows drive it
needs to have the proper credentials. So for windows I implemented that
a temporary drive mapping is made to the $ share of the drive where the
path in the DB is pointing to. I did this because these shares are
always available. They do require a local admin username password.

For a NAS device however the DB path is stored like
//servername/folder/...
I myself haven't any expierence with mapping to a NAS device. What I
would like to implement is a solution that does not require any input
(besides username password) from the user. Therefor i prefer not to let
the user map a drive first and use that to connect. It woudl require
external pre-requirements to be met and that is not preferred.
Question; Is there a always, on every NAS device, available share which
I can use to create a temporary mapping just for the use that
authentication has been made against the NAS device? A bit like c$ is
an always, default created, share for windows. Don't know if there is
any such thing for NAS devices?

If this is not the case i'm afraid I have to use a drive mapping and do
some replacing (i.e. //server/folder/mymusic is mapped to drive X: using
sharename \\server\music). For ACC to find the album art files ACC would
have to replace the internal DB path references
(//server/folder/mymusic/artist/album/cover.jpg) to
(X:\artist\album\cover.jpg).

I just can't figure out how to implement that.
For this I need a drive letter, the mapped share name and the fysical
directory path. Point is there doesn't have to be any relation between
the share name and the directory path. So my problem would be, what do
I need to replace with what in such a case? Any ideas on this one? -
Again not the preferred solution though.

[slim] Possible problem: IRBlaster and SC7

2008-03-06 Thread Kaizen28

Hi All

I'm not sure to whom this should be addressed bu any feedback would be
appreciated...

I'm using SC7 with IRBlaster and almost everything is working
flawlessly. I have noticed though that when the alarm function is used,
my SB3 starts playing but the POWER-ON IR command is not sent so the
amplifier remains off.

POWER-ON only appears to be sent when either the power or play buttons
are pressed on the remote. However, my testing has not been extensive.

Have I missed a setting somewhere?

I must admit that I've never found out what was going on here. But I never
encountered a problem caused by it neither. I'd be happy to know how we can get
rid of it.

Re: [slim] Wireless bridging: how to enable / disable

2008-03-06 Thread gharris999

Yes, you need an active ethernet device (a hub or a server connected via
a crossover cable) in order to change the bridging setting.

But, why does this matter? Are you finding that having bridging
enabled without an active ethernet connection somehow impairs the SB3's
operation?

If bridging is enabled and you later disconnect the wired connection, I
don't think the SB3 will be blasting bits out the empty RJ45 socket. If
you want to keep the wired connection and loose the wireless one, go
back to the network setup (press and hold the left button on the
remote) and select the Connect to an ethernet network option.

Question: Does Album Catalogue Creator (RC5+) create a trustworthy
output?

- Yes
- Yes but with minor issues
- No
- It does not work at all

SilverRS8;275894 Wrote:
I am currently working on NAS/remote server support. Support for a
remote windows server is already working. For Windows servers, the file
paths in the DB are stored using the drive letter the files are on.
For ACC to access the album art files on the remote Windows drive it
needs to have the proper credentials. So for windows I implemented that
a temporary drive mapping is made to the $ share of the drive where the
path in the DB is pointing to. I did this because these shares are
always available. They do require a local admin username password.

For a NAS device however the DB path is stored like
 //servername/folder/...

 Frank

Frank, I might be wrong, but given that most folks won't be using
this tool that frequently you can leave this aspect as a user
configurable option. Once a user has already mapped their NAS to the
SC Server the path and access rights (id/password) to this NAS resource
should be obvious to them. I use ACC from the server so I just follow
the SC mapping. I know that there are folks that want to access the db
from a machine other than the server, but how often do they want to do
this? I know, I know... there are probably folks out there that are
printing their Album Catalog on an hourly basis from computers other
than their SC server. Heck I print the catalog from a remote PC, but I
use Remote Desktop to connect to my SC Server where ACC is installed.

This is just a thouhgt... so that you don't have to spent much time
implementing a mapping that could change from user to user and from NAS
to NAS. In the end, for me at least, the configurable options for the
layout of the Catalog is what's most important.

on a NAS and need to access the db remotely.

You do have a point but users who have a NAS running Linux don't have
the ability to run ACC from the server. It would be nice to implement
the ability to run it from a windows machine but use the NAS and remote
SC DB to create the catalog.

Besides the 'CDx' indication for multiple disc can you indicate if you
have other issues I should be aware of to fix in the next version?

P.S. I made it an option to generate the .MHT file or not. Speeds up
things a lot when not created.

[slim] Worldwide shipping cost

However, when trying to order to duet, I am suprised to find that

have anything to do with the fact that it is now fulfill by Logitech?

Re: [slim] SqueezeCenter setup - UNC path inconsistencies

2008-03-06 Thread tfieldho

Thanks for the reply.

Using the local drive path may work as long as you're not modifying
files but could cause issues with the Drive Extender filter since the
MS supported method of access to shared folders is only through the UNC
paths on WHS. Since we're not really supposed to be actively editing
content directly from WHS until the corruption bug is fixed write
access is really moot as this point but I'd still prefer to be on the
safe side and stick to UNC paths for share access.

Have others noticed the flip-flop behavior with the (back)slashes in
the SqueezeCenter installation?

However iCab, which is always the strictest of browsers, reports a lot
of coding errors. I have no idea if these are significant or relevant.

In order to create bross-crowser layouts you'll have to break standards,
because one of the most popular browsers out there doesn't care about them at
all, and some of the standards leave too much space for interpretation. It's a
major pita for any advanced web page.

Re: [slim] Sound Effects

2008-03-06 Thread Scott Gardner
Hi Lori,

Babbling Brook is generally running all night at our place. With the
recent firmware update and my change to SC 7.0 some things like my
favorite link to Babbling Brook quit working. However it seems to
now be even easier to find. When connected to SqueezeNetwork go to
Extras - Sounds Effects - Natural Sounds. You'll find it listed
there.

 Hi,

I used to be able to listen to Sound Effects on my Squeezebox, such as
Babbling Brook and such. I even had Babbling Brook as a favorite.

Now I can't figure out how to get to the Sound Effects. I have looked
through all the options on my Squeezebox display, and also SlimServer.
And also, the Babbling Brook favorite is gone.

Can someone please let me know how to get to Sound Effects?
(and also, is there a place I could look for documentation on these
things, so I don't have to post a thread?)

 Many thanks...

True, although in SC7 this connection is pretty seamless, in that you
no longer have to explicitly logoff the local server and logon to SN. I
forget where the sound effects are, but I think they're under internet

SqueezeCenter only needs to know where the music is. It doesn't modify
the files at all so I don't see how this would be unsafe.

Well, okay, it could modify playlists, but I create my playlists
outside of SC and just read them.

Would be curious to know how other WHS users are doing it, so I hope
you get more input.

[slim] Album art not showing in Squeezecenter

not showing in the alphabetical list for albums on the main page. If I

I am using FLAC files and each folder has the album art with either

I don't see anything in the menus to change a setting. Any ideas other
than clicking on all the albums?

Is it possible to put the radio stations I want into the Internet Radio
menu? And I want to remove the other items in this menu, like Radio
Time, Live365 and so on...

I doubt whether the companies do endorse it... it's marketing that's
out of their control and could cause all sorts of repercussions. For
instance the renegade Sonos forum administrator guy who wrote that
*unbiased* review is likely to encourage Slim afficiendos like Robin to
write into their forums.. and others to make posts like his one:
http://forums.sonos.com/showthread.php?p=54752#post54752
which of course will bring lots of posts from Sonos users on how good
the product is .

[slim] How robust is the new Squeezebox controller?

2008-03-06 Thread Lesu

Having just watched my Squeezebox controller's battery cover fly off in
two pieces after dropping some 2 feet onto a wooden floor, I wonder how
the new controller would have fared. Sticky tape is now holding the
cover in place and on a cheap remote that's OK.
When the controller is nearly as expensive as the player, then you
really want a bounce, not a break! How robust is the new controller and
has anyone thought about how they are going to protect their precious
new acquisition from that inevitable fall?

I downloaded Squeezecenter yesterday to be used with my Squeezebox2 and
it's working well. The only problem I have is that the album art is
not showing in the alphabetical list for albums on the main page. If I
click on individual albums, then the album art will appear in the
alphabetical list when I return to the album listing.

I am using FLAC files and each folder has the album art with either
cover.jpg or folder.jpg for the title.

I don't see anything in the menus to change a setting. Any ideas other
than clicking on all the albums?

Is there a way to reorganize the left side menues in SqueezeCenter?

No, that's not easily possible. You could edit HTML/Default/home.html, though.

Re: [slim] Can't connect SB to SC

2008-03-06 Thread Zaragon

Have you tried a simple ping or tracert from the PC to the SB?

In situations where two wireless devices won't talk to each other but
otherwise talk to the internet successfully I tend to first think that
the wireless AP has an isolation feature turned on. Various
manufacturers call it different terms but essentially it stops one
wireless device seeing any other wireless device attached to the AP. It
is supposed to be a form of security. There is usually an option to turn
it off.

If this is the case then quite why it occaisionally works for a short
period I'm not sure.

Trying with one of the connections hard wired would help isolate the
problem. I also recall another poster with a similar problem recently
so I'd suggest a forum search as I remember he solved the problem.

[slim] Fun with SBC remote buttons?

2008-03-06 Thread strindberg

I just realized that there are at least two buttons on my Squeezebox
Classic remote that I never press: Favorites and Brightness. This
basically means that I have two buttons I could map to something more
useful (for me, that is, I'm not denying the potential usefulness of
these buttons for other people).

I was thinking along the lines of perhaps make the buttons jump
directly to Podcasts or AlienBBC, but then I thought: surely people
have done this before me?

So that's my question: what are your best ideas for remapping buttons
that you don't need?

[slim] nce Duet packaging!

2008-03-06 Thread Marcus G

I just received the new Duet.

I haven't tried it yet. But all I can say is . . . great packaging! The
black box is beautiful. The display of materials inside is beautiful. I
hate to disturb the contents.

The receiver and teh remote are tiny and . . . very pretty.

I just bought the stuff for hardware. But Logitech/Devices seems to
have gotten some great designers involved just to give the users some .
. . j'en sais quoi, or whatever that French is.

Re: [slim] How to Purchase IR Blaster in the UK?

2008-03-06 Thread MelonMonkey

I currently have a large inventory of IR blasters available for
purchase. You can buy anywhere from 1 to a few hundred if you want. I
ship worldwide with pretty much better rates than any other vendor.

Excuse the lack of detailed description for the blasters, but I haven't
officially launched them on our web site. I'm only really mentioning
their availability to other Slim Devices forum members.

Arggh, and let me guess... the batteries rolled underneath something.
Lots of remotes seem to suffer from this, and even my cell phone does
it. The Controller's cover is much more secure, which is great unless
the cover popping off is some kind of defense mechanism.

I wonder how the new controller would have fared.

I've doubled that drop (desk height) onto a wood floor and there was no
damage to the controller. It fell off my lap once too. May depend on if
the wood floor is on joists or a slab, and I certainly wouldn't want to
see it hit concrete/tile.

has anyone thought about how they are going to protect their precious
new acquisition from that inevitable fall?

I'm going to stop standing it up on its sides, because even though it
seems stable, it eventually falls over every time. I'll probably also
try to kick it right before it hits the ground next time, to ease some
of the downward momentum.

 Beautiful.

One question. What's the pin for it for Squeezenetwork?

If you're using SqueezeCenter, and gave SC your SN login information,
you don't need to do anything -- SC will automatically register the
hardware to SN. If you're not using SC, then you should have seen the
PIN on the Controller's screen as soon as you selected SqueezeNetwork
as the music source.
