[slim] SB3 and Wake on Lan after real power off
Greetings! To start with: Wake on Lan (WOL) *is* working on my combination of SB3 and Windows XP based Squeezecenter running on a laptop. When the laptop is off or in hibernation and I press the power button or the right arrow, the server wakes up as it should. In order to save power, all my audio (and video) equipment is linked to a central power switch with remote control. When turnning power off, the SB3, receiver etc all are off and the laptop goes into hibernation after a short while. When the power is turned on again, the XP server does not start again and there are no settings in the BIOS to make it start on power resume -- does not make much sense on a battery equipped laptop, I guess. What I would love to see is that the SB3 sends a WOL packet when it comes back to life after a real power off. The laptop is also used as a video streamer and I would like to save having to manually wake it up using the SB3 remote control. I am sure this *has* worked in the past because I remember the power on message waking up server or similar, perhaps with SC v7.1 or so. With the most recent SC v7.3.3 and firmware 125 it does not. Any suggestions how to make this work again? -- KFal KFal's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29089 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=61835 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

You'd probably find it simplest to install the Radio feeds: UK Ireland plugin. This categorises radio stations very nicely, including by location. You'll need to have AlienBBC installed first (which it seems like you have) and then go here: http://www.radiofeeds.co.uk/squeeze.asp and register to download the plugin. Re: [slim] WMA Lossless Volume Levelling
Not to state the obvious, but one solution that many people use would be to have two folders, one with your flacs and a duplicate folder with the music in a lossy format (using high quality setting) for your car and portable players. Lossy files produce sound from such hardware that most people, even picky ones, find to be quite acceptable. Keeping lossless files to play in a car seems like overkill to me. Some software will rip both lossless and lossy to different folders in one pass. Converting folders from one format to another is easily done in batch jobs. Set it and forget it, as the guy on the infomercial says. I use the two folder approach, and I find it to be quite useful with minimal effort required. Drive storage is cheap, so that is no issue. With your squeeze system, keeping your lossless files in a format with disadvantages and no significant advantages is a shame. -- Goodsounds Goodsounds's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14201 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44597 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

That image scares me. But, fwiw, the server is the MSI Wind, the atom desktop. There is a healthy discussion in the third party hardware section. -- ericj ericj's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3230 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=61855 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Running SC on $100 Linux Wall Wart
iPhone;410587 Wrote: Hello and Welcome to the Forum. That idea would work, be seems a bit over done to me. All one needs is a laptop and SB3, inverter, and an In-Dash Head Unit that takes a pre-amp or Aux In. Or try the other solution I am using in our Thunderbird, which is a Mac Mini with a Duet. Don't need the sound card, softsqueeze, or all the other hardware parts. Of course most of this depends on what ones starting point is and if one has a Head Unit what can accept a line level input. I was trying to avoid using a laptop since I wanted a small controller. I looked at the duet, but then I would still need a separate receiver and storage; I thought I could combine the two and also have more functionality with the ipod vs the duet controller. I previously was using a dell axim along with an asus WL-HDD, but the software on the axim was lacking, and I was getting interference. I like having all my music available in the car (used to use an empeg) and I was looking at better alternatives. [slim] Wired Only Squeezebox v3 for sale $100
I made a mistake and just bought this on ebay without noticing that it was a wired only version. Unfortunately for me I need the wifi. Here is the ebay listing. I have verified it does work via ethernet connection. First $100 takes it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:ITitem=250393962752 -- postage22 postage22's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14332 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=61860 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] mp3HD
I'm not sure I see the need for this format. Disk space on a PC isn't a consideration, but disk space on portable devices still is. I'd have both a flac and an mp3 on my PC than waste space by using this on portable devices. -- cooppw02 cooppw02's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16712 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=61694 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Moonbase;409154 Wrote: Looking back at mp3PRO which -was- a nice idea for low-bandwidth radio streams at its time, but has now vanished into nothingness I dont believe anyone should care much. Looks like some last struggles to run with the pack, coming much too late. And of course there wont be any advantages (I can see) over well-working, widely accepted open-source solutions like FLAC (or maybe WavPack one day). While i agree that it is very late to the party, I wonder whether the wide distribution of MP3 will allow this to become more relevant than we realize now. We shall see. I do not see anything to get excited about, but hey, I am not religiously predisposed against it either. [slim] Life with 7.3.2
Just wanted to say that I have been running 7.3.2 with both Vista 64 and Ubuntu 64 in the house for a while now, and that it has been an excellent release - the SB3s, Duet and Booms run well, reliably and I am a very happy end user. I still wish the synchronization between SPlay and the different Squeeze-hardware could be improved (hint: I'd pay for a client that works well). I am a very happy user. I am not sure when the next update is coming out, but following up 7.3.2 will be tough. ...pablo -- pablolie ...pablo Server: 3.3 GHz Intel E8600 Core 2 Duo (8GB) - Vista Ultimate 64 Ubuntu 8.10 64 Sources: SB3 (4), SB Boom (2), Duet, Accuphase DP65v CD Amplifier: Accuphase E306v Loudspeakers: Ceeroy 3-way tuned by Darmstadt Psychoacoustics Lab Headphones: Grado SR-1 pablolie's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3816 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=61865 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
