Which router model do you have? Do you have the latest firmware

[slim] connecting a slimp3 to a non-local squeeze center

2009-05-22 Thread dborod

Hi,

I've got an old slimp3 that was gathering dust at the office (sorry)
that I've brought home. I can point at SC running on my laptop at home,
but what I really want is to point it to the squeeze center I've got
running at the office.

I can connect to my office SC from various devices at home using the
web interface, softsqueeze, and squeeze slave by supplying the IP
address and port 9000.

The slimp3 setup lets me specify the IP address but not a port number.
I have updated the firmware to 2.3

Am I trying to do something impossible? If not, how can I accomplish my
goal?

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: [slim] Duets work, SB3 doesn't

2009-05-22 Thread SteveSatch

I do get SSID during setup.

My SSID is not hidden.

I'll try no security.

I cannot get wifi to work with fixed address. I can't get wifi to work
at all on SB3, just the Duets.

The SB3 does show up on the list of devices on the router.

Yes, I know.
When I first started the iPeng skin, I started off with the combined
Nokia/PSP? Skin. It was quite cool and almost fit iPhone at first glance

I have _exactly_ the same as rickwookie described, although my phone is
a HTC touch Diamond :)
The REG_DWORD value {98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}\TNETW12511
switches between 0 (wireless off) and 1 (wireless on) when i toggle the
Wifi.

EDIT:
However; If I manually change the ...TNETW12511 value from 0 to 1, it
does NOT switch on the Wifi on my phone. When wifi is on, changing the
value will NOT switch the wifi off.

It's an "internet tablet"... basically a keyboardless (well, it has
software onscreen keyboard and the N810 has a slideout tiny hardware
keyboard) linux box using a mostly slick UI (Hildon) and Gnome.

http://maemo.org has a bunch of applications compiled for it.

Until I got my netbook, the 770 was the greatest thing on the planet
and it is still pretty neat: the screen is very crisp and has great
resolution. Unlocked, I can ssh into servers at work while on the road
(it has bluetooth so connects to my cellphone for net access) if I have
to. Or use 802.11g and one of the global free ISP's like "Linksys" or
"Default" and get a better connection.

The 800 is faster, and the 810 has the keyboard.. and I think the 810
includes GPS

All work well with the N770 skin for SC as remote controls.

(Though iPeng has a severe advantage over them, for sure since it's not
just a web-browser-skin... but the 770 predates the iPhone... :))

[slim] Transporter - Visualizer screen keeps disappearing

2009-05-22 Thread wditters

On my transporter, my default setup has alwayds been "now playing" on
the left screen and "Analog VU Meters" on the right screen.

In the beginning I never had any issues but for the last year or so,
after a while the visualizer screen reverts to a black screen. Sometimes
it takes a few weeks but I have seen it reoccur every few days as well.
It seems to be fully at random.

Wen this happens, going into the display settings, visualizer screen,
the setting that is checked invariably is "nothing". Reselecting "Analog
VU Meters" gets me back my VU meters, but it's only a matter of time for
this to happen over and over again.

This happens both on Squeezecenter and on Squeezenetwork.

Any clues anyone?

That's because the script hasn't got the executable bit set.

Either use:

Nemo:/usr/bin/ndap/tags/RELEASE_1.0.0# perl scripts/udap_shell.pl

or:

Nemo:/usr/bin/ndap/tags/RELEASE_1.0.0# chmod +x scripts/udap_shell.pl

That's because on unix/linux, unlike DOS/Windows, the current directory
is not in the command path.

To run a command in the current directory, use:

Nemo:/usr/bin/ndap/tags/RELEASE_1.0.0/scripts# ./udap_shell.pl

I've tried SDTV/DVD upscaled to 1080i and it worked fine. My TV won't
support 1080p and I don't have any 1080 media to try it with. To be
honest it's more important to have a good graphics controller than PC

Re: [slim] Duets work, SB3 doesn't

2009-05-22 Thread BastiaanR

When you go through the Setup, and get to the point where it detects
available wireless networks - does it list your (and other) wireless
network(s)?

What type of wireless security do you have, WEP, WPA, WPA2, or
WPA+WPA2?

Are you sure it is a Squeezebox v3? Not a v2?

Curious that it did not work with DHCP. Do you have another system with
a fixed IP which is in the DHCP address range?

I restarted the router but no luck. I used DHCO for my two Duets and
it worked fine, but the SB3 would not work with DHCP so I had to assign
a fixed address. Thanks for your help.

Actually Pandora *is* free. One can pay a small monthly charge, but
afaik, the service is the same as the paid service, at least for now.
But it's not really fair to compare on price, because the costs are much
higher for a specific-track-or-CD-on-demand service like Rhapsody or
Napster.

Correct. Any music in your local library is seen by SC. No need for

Re: [slim] Why would not turn the SC into full Media server?

2009-05-22 Thread simbo

I think you'll find a few people doing exactly that.

I'm running Windows Media Center, for all Live TV (including PVR), DVD,
movie library and music needs in the lounge. It provides DVI output to
the TV and digital audio output to the surround sound receiver.

It also hosts SqueezeCenter.

It doesn't need to be that powerful - mine's an ancient P4 2Ghz
processor, with 1GB RAM - but it still works admirably; The wife can be
watching TV while I'm listening to music via a SB upstairs. I'll
probably upgrade it when Windows 7 comes out.

As for tuner - I have a dual-tuner DVB PCI card (Hauppauge Nova-T
500).

The only concern is power consumption. Our Media Center uses ~80 watts,
which would make it pretty poor if it was just for SqueezeCenter. An
Atom box would obviously consume much less.

[slim] Why would not turn the SC into full Media server?

2009-05-22 Thread AndreE

I was reading many topics on this forum and found very interesting in
understanding what I may do and what not with SqueezeCenter. The
interesting discovery was that I may have it installed on relatively
small mini Atom based box, which would cost me ~250 Euro including 330
Atom with 1G Memory and 1TB Hard drive. This would be way cheaper than
to have NAS with less computing and performance capacity.
It was very great and drives me away from the Sonos solution, which
offers less interesting things due to the proprietary architecture and
way higher price.
But doing the planning for the next step into the multi-room audition I
came to some other thoughts in regard to the Server. Whatever I do the
solution looks like a small PS playing Music server role. It is good for
money it costs, but… it is still an investment.
What many people were mentioning in this forum was : "... I would
better wait a bit and take better version of ... or more advanced model
of ... "
By reading this I was thinking why do not make another step into the
multimedia center where I would be able to record TV shows from the
cable or play Blue-ray, which I still do not have?
Such thoughts were driving me to the question, would it be worth of
making the "real" multimedia server with more power and cover not just
music but some other aspects and step into TV area e.g. with HDMI
interface and possibility to record and play Video. The sad thing is
Atom, even 330 version, would not cover this, more powerful platform
would be required.
It still would be fine under Linux, but would need more memory and CPU
hose power.
Reading the forum I did not find any post where this step was touched.
Is anybody using this in Squeeze world? I’ve just found very
interesting offer with Intel DG45FC Board where HDMI is coming out of
the box and Intel claims perfect 1080p play.
I was thinking to have 4G and Intel Core2 E8400 or E8500 on it. There
just one question – what to do with the TV/Cable tuner. And whether this
approach is reasonable... these questions are bothering me a lot and I
would very appreciate your thoughts about it.

If it is a used SB3 check if actually has a wifi card, they where sold
with or without wifi.
Wifi was an option.

Nowadays they had reduced it to one model.

Can oyou that SB3 in your router when trying to use wifi ?

And open it up and check that the wificwrds is firmly conected, there
has been reports of the wificard geting loose inside the SB3 especially
as it have been shipped via postal service or dhl

Yes.

Hmm, no point. You should restart (power off/on) the router and reset
the SB3

http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Hardware_Reset_commands

Do the router assign IP addresses via DHCP or do you use fixed IPs? Can
you ping the SB3 IP address from the Squeezecenter computer? Try t use a
fixed IP.
