Re: [slim] Ultimate server for SqueezeCenter?
I would add the following: 1. some way of editing tags after ripping, this would have to be remotely via a web interface. 2. MusicBrainz integration for tags (FreeDB is dreadful) 3. MusicIP installed, and configurable via web interface to analyse the library 4. web interface to upload files to the vortexbox. This is more than just a file drop, it will invoke a rescan of the music library as well. 5. after ripping the CD, the album art is retrieved and added to the folder. (my preference would be to embed the album art in the tag, but that makes maintenance more difficult - squeezecenter find album art works with the cover.jpg in the directory, and does not update embedded art) -- matthijskoopmans LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/in/mattkoop matthijskoopmans's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2622 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=65338 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Thanks all for the hints. This is what I did: 1. Installed the latest 7.3.4. beta (r27392). 2. Switched usb port for the usb disc containing the bulk of the music files and removed on usb thing that I do not use. - I also checked that the usb disc did not need defragmentation. 3. Disabled MusicIP. 4. In CustomScan I set all custom scans to Manual, i.e. disabled them. 5. I considered to not cache the album artwork, but decided to keep the caching since I enjoy my album artwork. (My album artwork is often very large - 1400x1400 or so - and perhaps the resampling is taken a long time?) 6. Restarted the PC. 7. I changed my music folder from an unc path to a local path (but first I did the same for the shortcut in the music folder). That triggered a wipe and rescan. Hi chp, Thanks for the update and my apologies for the delay in my reply - I suspect I'm on the opposite side of the world to you. Things are looking better now but not quite there. I now get the blue icon for about half a second before it vanishes again (faster than I get my mouse down for a hover over). I suspect my problem is that my copy of iTunes takes a very long time to fire up - of the order 3 to 10 seconds (I keep my library files on a network drive and thanks to Apples monolithic approach, I'm loading about 20 MB across the network). Is there any chance you can make the delay a configuration variable in the ini file so that I can experiment with this a bit further. The other possibility is that I'm not set up for 44.1kHz output - am I correct in assuming that I need to do this in the Quicktime Control panel? I currently have all of my sound devices set to 44.1kHz 16 bit stereo. I also have a quick suggestion for an interface option in the future. I really like the ability to mute the local output - it would be even more awesome if you could add a click on the icon option to select between three options of: Play local (pass through?), Stream, Play local and Stream. Finally, I presume you aware that this code is likely to give Apple corporate types heartburn - they do so like their Bonjour solution with tie in to iTunes and Airport Express. Firstly, thanks for the continued efforts in maintaining squeezeslave. I've just upgraded to 0.9 and can no longer play FLAC files. MP3 is fine. Yes you can display song titles only rather than going into Music Library-Album route. You have to go into squeezecenter on the PC and goto Settings then Player and Basic Settings and Menus. This will bring up the Menu Customisation page. There is a list of items in the Home Menu at the top of the page. There is a list of Inactive Menu Items lower down the page. One of these is Songs. Select this and click the Add button. The Songs entry will now appear in the Home Menu. This will present a list of all the songs in your music library. You can do this. Make a symbolic link to the desktop in your music directory. on the comand line you can use the ln -s command:- ln -s desktop directory music directory/desktop Then go into squeezecenter and check if it is seeing it. Go to Music Library and select the Music Folder option. The contents of the Music Folder should be displayed. Then look for your Desktop symbolic link. Both because transoding from lossless to lossless loses even more quality by the conversion itself, and because 160kbps ogg is better than 160kpbs mp3. I'm running Spotify with a Squeezebox 3 and Ipeng. It is quite simple on Windows: 1. Close Spotify (right click on the Spotify tray icon and select Exit). 2. Find your Spotify folder (where spotify.exe is). It is usually under C:/Program/Spotify/. 3. Download DSBridge from http://dsbridge.googlecode.com/files/dsbridge-20090707-bin.zip. Put the files DSound.dll and dsbridge.ini in your Spotify folder. 4. Find on the Internet the file lame_enc.dll, preferably v. 3.98.2 (hint: http://www.free-codecs.com/Lame_Encoder_download.htm). Put the file lame_enc.dll in your Spotify folder. 5. Start Spotify and play something. You will notice a new tray icon. 6. Go to your web browser and open SqueezeCenter (you will need a computer running SqueezeCenter to use DSBridge, I think). Go to Favourites and choose Edit. Choose New Favourite and type a name for the favourite (i.e. Spotify). If you are running Spotify on the same PC as SqueezeCenter: Type http://localhost:8124/; as the url for your new favourite. - If you are running SqueezeCenter and Spotify on separate machines on a local network, you will have to find the IP address (on your local network, something like 192.168.) of the machine running Spotify and type that instead of localhost. 7. Play the new Spotify favourite, via the web interface or iPeng, and whatever is playing on Spotify will play on your SB3. [slim] SB2 Randomly comes on
I run a boom, a duet, 3 x SB3's and a SB2. The SB2 is used in the bedroom with a Tivoli radio as an alarm clock during the week (no alarms at weekend). The SB2 - and only the SB2, none of the other units ever do this - randomly starts playing music. The display still shows off. To kill the music you have to turn the player on and off again - just turning it off doesn't work. This happens about once every 2-3 days whether an alarm is set or not. So far it's only happened once during the night, mostly it comes on during the day. I'm running latest release software under OX10.5.7. Any clues anyone? [slim] Weird Squeezebox Network Interference
Short Version: Wireless Squeezebox 3, when connected to audio system that includes DirecTivo receiver will degrade internet download performace to dial up speeds. The audio system can be powered down and the problem persists. Disconnect the satellite dishes and the problem vanishes! Details: Internet connection is att DSL via Actiontec GT724WGR gateway. Main computer is connected via ethernet. Download speed measured by speakeasy.net network speed test. Problem is reproducable at will, cleared up by disconnecting either the stereo audio cable from the Squeezebox or the satellite dishes from the DirecTivo. It doesn't matter if the various A/V items are powered down. The problem will persist as long as the Squeezebox is powered up. Question: Does anyone have any ideas how to solve this? I thought it might be possible to put a filter between the Squeezebox and the audio amp. What kind? What else could be done or investigated to solve the problem? I have no other evidence that there is anything wrong with the Squeezebox. -- dhull dhull's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=19653 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=65402 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Weird Squeezebox Network Interference
Don't know if it's any help, but it reminds me of a common source of ground buzz. When I first interconnected stereo receiver and television, I would get irritating buzz. The buzz would disappear when the cable coax connection was disconnected. Finally solved it with a DC Block on the cable connection. It seems a ground loop was setup between the ground path associated with the cable TV connection and the rest of the system. A similar situation may be injecting enough noise into your network that it has to throttle back the speeds... just a thought, but wouldn't know how to correct it - maybe a similar DC Block is available for your Satellite cable? -- tcutting tcutting's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17402 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=65402 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
