For Squeezenetwork (SN) the simplest thing is to install SoftSqueeze or
SqueezePlay on your netbook and point it to www.squeezenetwork.com. Note
that some music services are not available via SoftSqueeze. (You can
find SoftSqueeze under Extras in SqueezeCenter.)

2009-08-11 Thread bjs

Just my 2 cents, but as the proud owner of two SB 3's, I've gotta say
that from the photos I've seen, I'm a little disappointed in the design
of this SB touch. Maybe it's the larger radius of the corner curves, or
the proportions of the screen to the larger front face, or the
prominence of the logitech logo, or the thickness of the unit. It just
doesn't look as slick and refined as the classic. I wonder if they
hired the same designer that did the classic. I also miss the
silver/black color scheme.

What do others think?

Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify

2009-08-11 Thread qalleanqa

I'm using dsbridge and spotify to stream to my nokia E66 phone which
works well (picking it up with nokia internet radio). I'm also using the
remote control app Salling Clicker that works with most phones and both
win and mac. With a Spotify script by Joeker this remote controls basic
functions and even shifts between playlists.

The remote Salling Clicker could of course control Spotify for whatever
client (squeezebox etc) you are using.

I've proposed an integrated app with both dsbridge and a remote to the
authers and we will see what happens?

No, I'm awake.

WoooHoo!

I don't really need one, but I have a feeling I may rationalize a
purchase of one somehow :-).

It basically seems like an SB3 with a color touch screen with the added
ability to access music directly from a USB device or SD flash.

I wonder when they will make an announcement in the forums.

I also wonder if media connected to the SBT is made accessable to other
SBs on the network.

Pretty cool! Glad to see new devices coming out of the shop.

I don't find anything in that page to compel me to upgrade to the
S-Touch from my SB3 other than the 24/96 support. I mostly interface
with the IR remote with my SB3 and with moose or the Web UI from my
laptop to interface to the Squeezebox Server. I rarely walk up to the AV
cabinet to control anything. The touch screen in the cabinet does not
buy "me" anything. The 24/96 support is nice, but not to die for. I have
other ways to display my photos on my TV or computers. Well, I guess I
have to wait to see if a new and improved Controller is in the works.

ever bought. I never ever buy Apple stuff. It's now listed, but
unavailable in Amazon.com for the MSRP. The MSRP of the Harmony One is
$249 US, but you can find it for about $180 in many online stores. It'll
probably drop a few more $$ once the 900 hits the stores.

Re: [slim] New "Logitech MM STREAM Squeezebox Touch" spotted !!

2009-08-11 Thread tamanaco

In the last fews weeks, as you can see in their blog, Logitech has
announced a bunch of new products. Hopefully an announcement for the
Sqeezebox Touch and other new SD related products will come soon.

Today Logitech announced the Logitech 900 Universal remote... Basically
and improved Harmony One with RF, a couple extra buttons and a higher
resolution screen. Besides my SB3 I have a bunch of other components
(including a Vudu box that uses RF) that I would like to control with a
single remote. This new Harmony has the potential to control everything
without jumping to many hurdles. I understand that the Harmony remotes
have no WiFi, but I hope that with this remote Logitech will add
specific profiles on their Web site fot the old IR Squeezeboxes and the
boxex yet to be "officially" announced.

At one point I almost bought the Controller, but I noticed that
development of its software has either slowed dramatically or gone
underground. What I mean by "underground" is that maybe the development
folks from SD/Logitech are concentrating on products yet to be announced
which "might" also include a new and improved Controller. Again, this is
all speculation on my part. I just hope the Logitech announces the new
family of SD products soon so that I can make up my mind.

The plug-in streams whatever you are playing (ie radio stations,
selected artists, albums, tracks, playlists...).

You use your normal Spotify-window to manage what you would like to
play (ie you can not change artists etc by the Squeezebox remote or
Squeezecenter). The full information (song title, artist, album (ie the
information above the album art in the Spotify program)) is displayed

Re: [slim] mp3 tagging problem

2009-08-11 Thread cphan

Hey Gary, I just spent the weekend repopulating my mp3 tags using media
monkey. Great free open source music library and mp3 management
software. Works well across a local network. Try it out and just
repopulate the data from their database (Amazon I believe)

Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify

2009-08-11 Thread Labarum

Excuse what might seem a very basic question, but I have have not been
following this very long thread.

Does the plug-in stream only the Spotify Radio Stations, or is it
possible to select a particular album or even track?

If the latter is the interface cumbersome? How is data displayed in SC?

LOL!

We are all hopelessly addicted and the Slim Devices guys at Logitech
are our pushers.

My brother got a duet yesterday. Before his purchase, I warned him
about wanting multiple SBs once you have one, but he just said "pfft,
they are too expensive, and my wife won't go for it. Not gonna happen".
Uh huh.

He didn't have his duet for 4 hours yet and he was already asking me
about the Boom and if I could bring one of mine over so he could check
it out. His wife is actually the one keen on the Boom.

I tried to warn him :-).

S40 is not for smartphones. It's mid-range phones with e.g. a camera and
an mp3-player.
It's probably a cheaper platform.

Well, Spiegel didn't say "Android", but "Maemo", which is AFAIK a Nokia
platform.
They also said Nokia will not discontinue Symbian but it's not their
focus for smartphones anymore. Mayve that means they will only continue
the S40 lines?

Also in this article from Juli 6. a nokia spokesman denies that move.

However the Spiegel explicitly quotes a spokeswoman too.
And the Spiegel is usually very trustworthy.

That said, it's pretty expected, the current S60 OS is well behind what

Re: [slim] iPod / iPhone as a receiver

2009-08-11 Thread alex_london

Assuming you have iPeng, you can do this right now - first, use safari
to browse to "http://:9000/stream.mp3". This will
bring up a media player in safari.

Now hit the "home" button, and from the springboard launch iPeng. You
should see the player listed as "Mozilla from ".
Select it, and play away!

Your actions may be a bit delayed, as your SC is converting to mp3 in
the background, but otherwise it works perfectly for me!

If you don't have iPeng, you could use a web browser on another device
to control the player. Unfortunately, I've not been able to find a way
to browse to another "tab" in the iPhone Safari browser while it's
playing a stream - which is why I use iPeng to control it.

-Alex

Glad the GUI now displays correctly. Did you perhaps select an
alternative output folder which does not reside on the same computer
where ACC is installed? In that case change it to a local folder and
give it a try. Let me know the results please...

Ok I look forward to try the newer version. I have been using it a
little more and have a couple more remarks:

1. I find a little difficult to select tracks with the finger in the
playlist. Most often Slimcontrol reacts like if I want to scroll the
list. Don't know whether it is possible to increase the threadshold for
when it should be perceived as scroll-attempt.

2. I think it would be easier if by holding the finger down on a track
a "finger-friendly" menu would pop-up with the choices of remove, play
from here, etc.

Thanks

Re: [slim] SC on a separate computer from my NAS (music library), bad idea for speed?

2009-08-11 Thread LukeS

Well I deiced to load Ubuntu on a old 1.4Ghz Celeron M 360 laptop with a
100Mbps ethernet connection and 512MB ram. I wanted to see if it would
be worth the effort to build an Atom server. I also plan to wait for
new low power atom chipset to come out. I left my music collection on
the NAS.

Wow the difference is amazing, even on this old slow laptop. The
ReadyNAS took 1 hour 20 min to build my music library of over 5000
songs. The ubuntu laptop 6 min 40 sec!!! The ReadyNAS squeezecenter
interface is almost unusable due to being so slow, the slow laptop
latency is very fast.

It is a total marketing gimmick that they even advertise SqueezeCenter
integration on the ReadyNAS's with SPARC processors (duo, NV, NV+,
1100).

Bottom line, don't run squeezecenter on a SPARC processor ReadyNAS, you
need one of the faster x86 boxes. Better yet don't buy a ReadyNAS with
a sparc processor at all, it is a waste of money because it is only good
for file shareing and there are tons of other cheaper products that will
do the same thing.
