Re: [slim] Controlling Squeezecentre with a Nokia phone
The plan in Nokia is all based around Qt. Symbian continues (and is now open source) and the future Symbian^3 and Symbian^4 phones will be Qt based, the latter I think far more. The idea is that the general smartphones will be Symbian, the top end range will be more likely Maemo (or now MeeGo). Both platforms run Qt apps. From a developer perspective, you don't have to develop specifically for each individual OS which has always been the pain with Nokia (e.g. having to do a version for S60 3.1, then 3.2, and 5.0). Just develop for Qt, and the binaries are compatible across the OS range once the Qt core is there. Might have to rebuild for Maemo though, and you may have to add some customisations for the different experiences (screen sizes, layouts and touch/non-touch). P.S. You can do Qt now on S60 3.1, 3.2 and 5.0 phones. Check out the Qt for Symbian demos and it just installs the core framework and a bunch of apps. They work very well on my E72. The plan also is to eventually support Qt apps in the Ovi Store, but they need to be easy to install with all dependencies, and it's not there yet. Oh, and then outside of Qt, there's the WRT framework and I think there's an Ovi framework. Not to mention you have the option of Java, which is universal even with S40 phones. Anyway, I'm planning to play about with Qt. If I manage to pick it up and no one else has bothered I might look into a SqueezeCentre remote control app of some kind as it's something I'd like, but I know nothing about Qt at present so it's going to be a long way off. If someone's up for starting an open source dev I'd be interested in helping out once I'm up and running. My dev skills are more on the underlying C++ side than GUI look and feel though (I'm a software developer, not an artist :D), though the C++ is a little rusty as I've been doing C# for a few years now. Now if we had Qt.Net on Symbian... :D -- deadkenny deadkenny's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6722 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=59033 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] no internetradio, though stream works on notebook
Assuming that you are connected to the software, not MySqueezebox.com, have a look at the server.log file (there is a link under Settings/Information in the web interface). What do you see in the log when you try to play a radio stream? The most likely cause is that something is stopping the software from connecting to the internet - this can happen if the software starts up before your internet connection is ready or if you have antivirus or firewall software configured in a certain way, or even if you've put in the wrong mysqueezebox.com password somewhere. However, some more info needed on your setup to narrow it down. The log file will help but also what hardware you are running the software on (PC on windows? NAS?), what version of the software, any antivirus or security software and whether you have checked your mysb.com settings are correct in the Settings page. The other basic bit of troubleshooting is to stop the software, reboot your router and let everything reconnect, then restart the software. I run the software on a PC with Windows 7, Squeezebox Server 7.4.2. Antivirus Software is Antivir, I already disabled it, didn't help. The last entry in the logfile is [10-02-27 16:36:31.2308] Slim::Web::JSONRPC::requestMethod (383) request not dispatchable! When I try to play a radio stream, the logfile doesn't get an update. msyb.com keeps saying not connected under Player even though I can play my music just fine, so it must be connected. The disconnect button is grey, so I can't click on it. Anything to do with this maybe? I already tried connecting to mysb.com from the Squeezebox, also saying can't connect. I like the flickr feature on iPeng such that I can hold a finger on the Now Playing screen to bring up photos of the artist. [slim] Dead Transporter
I've had a transporter for while and it has always worked fine. It hasn't been used for a month or so and when I just went to turn it on it is completely non-responsive. I've tried the buttons on the unit and from the remote. Also tried the reset procedure. Power connection is good so that shouldn't be a problem. It has been attached to a power conditioner and I don't think there have been any power surges lately anyway. The amps plugged into the same power conditioner and the conditioner are all fine. Anyone have an idea what the problem might be and if there is anything I can do about it? Re: [slim] Controller vs ipod touch
I borrowed an iPod Touch just to try iPeng. At first, I couldn't get on with it all, because I couldn't get the swipe gesture to work - often, instead of changing screens, it would select a different track, sometimes wiping my playlist completely. Then I took the thick rubber skin off... :-) Turned out it was preventing me swiping to the edge of the screen - and that appears to be crucial for iPeng. I'd considered switching to iPeng as I'd had lots of problems with the controller disconnecting too frequently, and thought it was turning to slok; but since then, I've discovered that not only do I need to disable wireless power save (or whatever it's called), but I need to keep doing it, as it gets reset (for no obvious reason). With that, the controller is OK (albeit a little more power-hungry). There are many ways in which I prefer iPeng over the Controller: a single screen that shows all my Squeezeboxen, and lets me sync or unsync them easily (though I'm still occasionally surprised by the sync direction); it's quicker to switch between players; being able to move tracks around in the current playlist; and physical and screen size. I've noticed one tiny quirk: sometimes when I launch a MusicIP mix, the playlist view doesn't update properly, and still shows the old playlist beyond the current track. I find some of the screen buttons difficult to press in iPeng; for example, it can take me a while to change the shuffle mode. I still get some of the gestures wrong occasionally, so for example, instead of dragging the playlist, I end up switching to whatever song was under my finger at what I thought was the start of the drag gesture. (Perhaps I should add that the borrowed Touch is 1st-gen; perhaps a 3rd-gen would perform better.) There's one reason why I still tend to use the Controller a lot, and that is that I often want to do other things with the iPod, such as check my mail, surf the web, or just play some silly game - and I have to shut down iPeng to do any of these things. I can't *quite* justify having two iPod Touches :-) Recently, we've started to get IP conflicts on our network, and I think I've pinned it down to the Touch and our router not quite using DNS properly when reconnecting after sleep. Should be simple to fix, though (just switch to fixed IP addresses for known kit). Overall, if I didn't already have a Controller, I probably wouldn't bother. If I already had a Touch, getting iPeng would be a no-brainer. (I'm still using the borrowed Touch - must get my own sometime! but the original owner isn't missing it.) Bear in mind though that I rarely use my Controller as a player - I might feel differently if I did. -- Brian -- Brian Ritchie Brian Ritchie's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2319 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=75684 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

You need to be a bit more specific. There are several different options for displays, but a lot depends on WHAT device is being talked about as a display. Re: [slim] Controlling Squeezecentre with a Nokia phone
deadkenny;521124 Wrote: The plan in Nokia is all based around Qt. :D Actually, http://your SBS host:9000/handheld Works quite well and http://your SBS host:9000/nokia770 Is designed for the exact resolution of the N900. [slim] Skipping Over Music Folders
Some albums are so dear to me that I have both mp3 and flac versions of them (for iTunes and home stereo use respectively). I would like to limit the scan to the flac version only so the album doesn't show up twice in SC. What I'd really like to do is skip over certain folders during a music scan based on some criteria. Perhaps the criteria would be the existence of an empty dot file in the folder to skip (like .skip or something like that). I'm a programmer, and wouldn't mind learning the SC's API if this can be done via a plugin, but I don't want to wade through tons of documentation only to learn it can't be done. Does anyone know if this kind of thing is possible to do via a plugin? If it is, I'll start reading! :) Thanks! Re: [slim] Skipping Over Music Folders
I don't know if this is possible for you, but I deal with this issue by having two parallel libraries. I think many others here do the same. The primary library is FLAC and is what SlimServer indexes. I then use Robin Bowes' flac2mp3.pl script to maintain a separate MP3 version for portable players. -- eq72521 eq72521's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1512 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=75747 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
