until now it had never happened. I'm pretty sure it's faster than a cell
phone. These jokes only go so far as I'm only able now to connect to
mysqueezebox.com when my computer is on. Both of these things are not
funny and not the best of things. I'm very worried if my computer is
off I'll not be able to use my SB3 and also I'm very worried that I'm
not going to be able to use all my flac music that i've already been
able to use for 3 years. I didn't read the rest of the post already so
I'm sorry if I got ahead of myself. I love my SB3 and don't want it to
become obsolete because no one cares about it.

Your machine is certainly 1000 times faster than some of these NAS
boxes I suppose the joke was not on you.

Xp that was a long ago but anything around 1-1.6mHz with =1GB ram
should certainly do it very well, some run XP with only 512mB of RAM
thats barely enough to keep XP happy, and it upgrades all the time so
fond memory of XP was that use of sytem resources was creeping upwards
all the time.
If you run some other OS i supose 512mB would actually be more than
ok.

Have you done the streaming test lately how fast does it go close to
3000kBs is expected on an SB3 If one want to test the server trothle up
the network test on all players.

An bad example I know on my old XP partition i could never reach above
1500kBs but I think that was Nortons doing that something had gone
really bad about the way my computer handled ip traffic, i tried other
firewalls but once Norton has been installed in a system it's forever
fubare'd .
Tried ubuntu on the same hardware worked splendidly.

I never seen any similar report on how to fault trace that is XP known
to having problems with moving data fast ?

Multiboot is a possible way to try things on slow machines (othervise
virtual machines or good). I have an Ubuntu partition and one XP
partition.
You can do this with any combination you can run 2 different XP
partitions too ? that's a way to see if it is the OS or hardware thats
misbehave.

If I understand you right then yes my results are 100% as far as the

admit I've shied away from flac ever since i've had problems with it. So
right now I'm playing some flac music without a problem to test it out.
As far as using mysqueezebox.com it still only works while my server
machine is operating. The minute that it is off the SB3 says it can not
connect to the server? It's not a huge deal now but could be in the
future. So far the flac is playing correctly so maybe I have
overreacted to a problem that has been fixed. If so I'm sorry to have
brought it up again. But the problem with not being able to access
mysqueezebox.com still continues and that does very much concern me.

Yes, those should play, as long as they do not require MySB.

Ex: You can put a Pandora station into your Favorites (outside of My
Apps), SBS will play it without needing to switch to MySB.
But, SBS is using MySB in the background. As soon as you remove your
login to MySB from SBS this Pandora station (or any App subscription)
will not play.

If your Podcast was derived from the MediaFly App then I'd think it
would not play for the same reason.
Direct URL Podcasts should play.

It's a very quick and easy test to find out.
But I still believe your problem is elsewhere. Here's hoping I'm

[slim] Sound just stops?

I have noticed since changing to 7.4.2 that I seem to get more frequent
re- buffeting . Also, and more disturbing, when I fall asleep at night
with music playing inthe sleep mode(90minutes) when I wake in the

music just stops but the display indicates the station is on. I would
like to go back to 7.4.1 where I found things pretty stable but I have
the radio battery coming and I intend to use it. One thing also my
bedside player is the Boom. I would apprciate any help. Can you run
7.4.2 on a Boom and 7.4.1 on the Radio ? Will they sinc?

Re: [slim] Controlling Squeezecentre with a Nokia phone

2010-02-27 Thread deadkenny

The plan in Nokia is all based around Qt. Symbian continues (and is now
open source) and the future Symbian^3 and Symbian^4 phones will be Qt
based, the latter I think far more.

The idea is that the general smartphones will be Symbian, the top end
range will be more likely Maemo (or now MeeGo). Both platforms run Qt
apps.

From a developer perspective, you don't have to develop specifically
for each individual OS which has always been the pain with Nokia (e.g.
having to do a version for S60 3.1, then 3.2, and 5.0). Just develop for
Qt, and the binaries are compatible across the OS range once the Qt core
is there. Might have to rebuild for Maemo though, and you may have to
add some customisations for the different experiences (screen sizes,
layouts and touch/non-touch).

P.S. You can do Qt now on S60 3.1, 3.2 and 5.0 phones. Check out the Qt
for Symbian demos and it just installs the core framework and a bunch of
apps. They work very well on my E72.

The plan also is to eventually support Qt apps in the Ovi Store, but
they need to be easy to install with all dependencies, and it's not
there yet.

Oh, and then outside of Qt, there's the WRT framework and I think
there's an Ovi framework. Not to mention you have the option of Java,
which is universal even with S40 phones.

Anyway, I'm planning to play about with Qt. If I manage to pick it up
and no one else has bothered I might look into a SqueezeCentre remote
control app of some kind as it's something I'd like, but I know nothing
about Qt at present so it's going to be a long way off. If someone's up
for starting an open source dev I'd be interested in helping out once
I'm up and running. My dev skills are more on the underlying C++ side
than GUI look and feel though (I'm a software developer, not an artist
:D), though the C++ is a little rusty as I've been doing C# for a few
years now. Now if we had Qt.Net on Symbian... :D

Are you sure the Boom is actually connecting to MySB.com?

If Boom is connected to SBS then MySB will say not connected.
Menu order changes on MySB.com will not show up on your SBS, nor will
these changes show on your Boom if Boom is on SBS.

On the Boom, scroll to connect to MySqueezeBox.com, arrow RIGHT.
Now look at your MySB.com web site and see if it says connected.

[slim] Guide for changing the display?

Hi!

Is there a guide somewhere on how to change the display? For example my

As you can see there is not enough space, therefore I'd like to change

If you mean the FW versions for each, yes.

In fact, both can run on the later FW, just deny the FW upgrade
(downgrade) on the players when connecting to the server running a
previous FW version.
I'm guessing the Radio needing 7.4.2 for battery use is only FW related
(Radio does not need to be connected to 7.4.2 for proper battery use).
But you should verify this to be safe.
This is why denying the FW downgrade for Radio would be important if
using the battery.

Re: [slim] no internetradio, though stream works on notebook

2010-02-27 Thread Siduhe

Assuming that you are connected to the software, not MySqueezebox.com,
have a look at the server.log file (there is a link under
Settings/Information in the web interface). What do you see in the log
when you try to play a radio stream?

The most likely cause is that something is stopping the software from
connecting to the internet - this can happen if the software starts up
before your internet connection is ready or if you have antivirus or
firewall software configured in a certain way, or even if you've put in
the wrong mysqueezebox.com password somewhere. However, some more info
needed on your setup to narrow it down. The log file will help but also
what hardware you are running the software on (PC on windows? NAS?),
what version of the software, any antivirus or security software and
whether you have checked your mysb.com settings are correct in the
Settings page.

The other basic bit of troubleshooting is to stop the software, reboot
your router and let everything reconnect, then restart the software.
Any improvement?

Re: [slim] no internetradio, though stream works on notebook

2010-02-27 Thread knightfall

I run the software on a PC with Windows 7, Squeezebox Server 7.4.2.
Antivirus Software is Antivir, I already disabled it, didn't help. The
last entry in the logfile is
[10-02-27 16:36:31.2308] Slim::Web::JSONRPC::requestMethod (383)
request not dispatchable!
I also found some lines like this:
[10-01-09 19:35:55.9969]
Slim::Plugin::InternetRadio::Plugin::_gotRadioError (103) Unable to
retrieve radio directory from SN: Couldn't resolve IP address for:
www.mysqueezebox.com
But as you can see they are not from today.
When I try to play a radio stream, the logfile doesn't get an update.

msyb.com keeps saying not connected under Player even though I can
play my music just fine, so it must be connected. The disconnect
button is grey, so I can't click on it. Anything to do with this maybe?
I already tried connecting to mysb.com from the Squeezebox, also saying
can't connect. How do I properly connect to rule this out as the
cause?

I already rebooted several times, so far no improvement...

[slim] Streamer USB DAC's

Has anyone used a Music Streamer II, II Plus or Pro USB DAC in
conjunction w/ a SB Duet or Touch? These inexpensive DAC's have been
getting rave reviews (the reviews below are for the $249 II model, not
the newer offerings.) The reviewers claim they blow away anything in
their price range and match up against offerings costing much more.

Here are some links (there are many other reviews online):

I like the flickr feature on iPeng such that I can hold a finger on the
Now Playing screen to bring up photos of the artist.

I also like the ability to go from one service e.g. last fm, then
holding a finger on the Now Playing screen to pick an alternative
service to hear the same song but in a different playlist.

I hope these two features are also in the iPad app for iPeng.

I think you are confusing two issues here. Libspotify is Linux only and
so isn't really useable by Squeezebox Server given that it needs to run

The other libraries are very much unofficial and it is hard to see how

[slim] Dead Transporter

2010-02-27 Thread Tim S

I've had a transporter for while and it has always worked fine. It
hasn't been used for a month or so and when I just went to turn it on it
is completely non-responsive. I've tried the buttons on the unit and
from the remote. Also tried the reset procedure. Power connection is
good so that shouldn't be a problem. It has been attached to a power
conditioner and I don't think there have been any power surges lately
anyway. The amps plugged into the same power conditioner and the
conditioner are all fine. Anyone have an idea what the problem might be
and if there is anything I can do about it?

Re: [slim] Controller vs ipod touch

2010-02-27 Thread Brian Ritchie

I borrowed an iPod Touch just to try iPeng. At first, I couldn't get on
with it all, because I couldn't get the swipe gesture to work - often,
instead of changing screens, it would select a different track,
sometimes wiping my playlist completely. Then I took the thick rubber
skin off... :-) Turned out it was preventing me swiping to the edge of
the screen - and that appears to be crucial for iPeng.

I'd considered switching to iPeng as I'd had lots of problems with the
controller disconnecting too frequently, and thought it was turning to
slok; but since then, I've discovered that not only do I need to disable
wireless power save (or whatever it's called), but I need to keep doing
it, as it gets reset (for no obvious reason). With that, the controller
is OK (albeit a little more power-hungry).

There are many ways in which I prefer iPeng over the Controller: a
single screen that shows all my Squeezeboxen, and lets me sync or unsync
them easily (though I'm still occasionally surprised by the sync
direction); it's quicker to switch between players; being able to move
tracks around in the current playlist; and physical and screen size.

I've noticed one tiny quirk: sometimes when I launch a MusicIP mix, the
playlist view doesn't update properly, and still shows the old playlist
beyond the current track. I find some of the screen buttons difficult to
press in iPeng; for example, it can take me a while to change the
shuffle mode. I still get some of the gestures wrong occasionally, so
for example, instead of dragging the playlist, I end up switching to
whatever song was under my finger at what I thought was the start of the
drag gesture.

(Perhaps I should add that the borrowed Touch is 1st-gen; perhaps a
3rd-gen would perform better.)

There's one reason why I still tend to use the Controller a lot, and
that is that I often want to do other things with the iPod, such as
check my mail, surf the web, or just play some silly game - and I have
to shut down iPeng to do any of these things. I can't *quite* justify
having two iPod Touches :-)

Recently, we've started to get IP conflicts on our network, and I think
I've pinned it down to the Touch and our router not quite using DNS
properly when reconnecting after sleep. Should be simple to fix, though
(just switch to fixed IP addresses for known kit).

Overall, if I didn't already have a Controller, I probably wouldn't
bother. If I already had a Touch, getting iPeng would be a no-brainer.
(I'm still using the borrowed Touch - must get my own sometime! but the
original owner isn't missing it.) Bear in mind though that I rarely use
my Controller as a player - I might feel differently if I did.

Re: [slim] Controlling Squeezecentre with a Nokia phone

2010-02-27 Thread pski

deadkenny;521124 Wrote:

Actually,

http://your SBS host:9000/handheld

Works quite well and

http://your SBS host:9000/nokia770

Is designed for the exact resolution of the N900.

[slim] Skipping Over Music Folders

2010-02-27 Thread pjs

Some albums are so dear to me that I have both mp3 and flac versions of
them (for iTunes and home stereo use respectively).

I would like to limit the scan to the flac version only so the album
doesn't show up twice in SC.

What I'd really like to do is skip over certain folders during a music
scan based on some criteria. Perhaps the criteria would be the
existence of an empty dot file in the folder to skip (like .skip or
something like that).

I'm a programmer, and wouldn't mind learning the SC's API if this can
be done via a plugin, but I don't want to wade through tons of
documentation only to learn it can't be done.

Does anyone know if this kind of thing is possible to do via a plugin?

If it is, I'll start reading! :)

Thanks!

I don't know if this is possible for you, but I deal with this issue by
having two parallel libraries. I think many others here do the same.
The primary library is FLAC and is what SlimServer indexes. I then use
Robin Bowes' flac2mp3.pl script to maintain a separate MP3 version for
