You can meddle with /etc/udev/rules.d/z25_persistent-net.rules, there
must be lines in there for eth0 and eth1. If you delete these lines they
will be re-created (possibly w/ other names), or you can simply change
the NAME= value in the existing lines.
Then you need to reboot.

Have you specified a static IP for your vortexbox instance? I have
also seen this behaviour, but only when using a static IP (and
regardless of whether the static IP is outside or inside the DCHP
range).

My solution was to change back to IP being allocated by DCHP using the
network manager, then redo the upgrade, then reallocate a static IP. I
do this before every upgrade and it works ok.

As far as I can tell from reading around the subject, the eth0 error
message is an occasional problem with Fedora 10.

[slim] Hi everybody,i'm new here,i've got a question...

2010-03-16 Thread amit145

Hello!

I have a problem regarding my squeezbox..
the problem is that i CANT play DTS/DD/AC3 sound format audio files on
my audio system under this situation:
My Squeezbox is connected Via coax cable to a DAC (valab nos),
the DAC is connected to my 7.1 AV receiver,HK AVR 255 (via analog
interconnect into an alalog input).
Now the only problem i have is playing audio files (that are on my PC)
that are in 5.1 format (such as DTS audio cd etc'...)
P.S: if i remove the DAC and connect the Squeezbox straight to the AV
receiver,i have NO problem at all hearing any kind of audio formats what
so ever... so i guess the problem has to do with the 5.1 to 2.0 decoding
that is not possible in the VALAB dac (it never ment to do so..)
ANY suggestion you guys have for me?
Thanks!

Correct me if I am wrong. Valab NOS uses a very old chip for CD audio
only. It only has dts/ac3 pass-through, not decoding. This is why you
cannot play dts/ac3 with it.

Squeezebox when playing dts/ac3 outputs the original coded stream to
the digital out. It relies a dts/ac3 receiver to decode them.

2010-03-16 Thread amit145

Hello honva,

as far as i know it uses a TDA1543 chip,
i think too that a DAC(any dac) is not design to downmix 5.1 to 2.0.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Valab-NOS-USB-Re-Clock-DAC-Low-Jitter-Dual-1ppm-TCXO_W0QQitemZ270547807799QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3efde7ee37

from your saying i understand i've got 2 options:
1.connecting the SB straigh to my receiver and giving up the DAC
2.convert all my 5.1 audio files into a format of which the DAC can
handle (PCM?) Do you familiar with a good tool for that?

the first option is almost not acceptable..

Thanks

2010-03-16 Thread alZmtbr

Does it have both optical and coax Digi outs? Does your rcvr and DAC
have one or the other or both? No problem using both digital outputs of
the SB simultaneously - one for the DAC for two-channles use, the other
to the rcvr for multi-channel listening. Just remember what is playing
to use the correct input selector on the rcvr!

Might that work?

[slim] Adding All Stations To Home Screen?

2010-03-16 Thread PeteCress

In the interest of placating a technophobic user, I'd like to add a new
Home Screen option: something like All The Freaking Stations In The
World.

That way, the user can simply:

1) Turn on the device

2) Choose All The Freaking Stations In The World

3) Explore to their heart's content just by twiddling the dial.

Granted All The ...Stations is probably not realistic... bc I'm
guessing it would too long to populate the list.

But can anybody think of an existing plug-in, application, or something
that would be in that vein? i.e. A lot of stations from a lot of
places without drilling down though many menus?

No you need a CD. You can attach an old CD to a sata or IDE to USB
 converter if you need to.

Really? You can't use something like unetbootin to make a bootable
 thumbdrive?
The Acer Revo supports booting from a USB drive, so you should be able
to download the vortexbox-1.2.iso
(http://vortexbox.org/vortexbox-1.2.iso), install it on a USB drive
using unetbootin (http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net), and then boot your
Acer Revo from the USB drive to install VortexBox.

You'll have to change the BIOS to disable RevoBoot before booting from
the USB drive. See http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=53888 and
http://www.avforums.com/forums/home-entertainment-pcs/999568-acer-aspire-revo-owners-thread-7.html
for details.

Disclaimer: I don't have an Acer Revo and haven't tried this myself.
But I think it should work.
