Re: [slim] Is synchronising more difficult than hit the jack pot in Vegas ?

2010-03-24 Thread awy

Almost right.

It is (surprisingly) not about latency but about when the stream
starts. Services like Pandora, Rhapsody, Napster, etc. all send
individual streams for each track. When you start playing it starts
exactly at the start of a track. This is the same whether or not you get
one stream from the source and proxy it via a local Squeezebox Server,
or whether each player gets its own stream directly from the source as
is the case when using mysqueezebox.com.

With a radio station however, each stream obtained from the remote
source -starts- when the individual player connects. This will
inevitably be different for each player.

Once connected and playing, the server, whether a local Squeezebox
Server or mysqueezebox.com, will keep each player in sync relative to
the -start- of the stream. For a radio station where each player has its
own connection (mysqueezebox.com), the reference point will be different
for each player and so they will be kept out-of-sync exactly by the
amount of the difference between the reference points.

A hack that sometimes works with mysqueezebox.com is to keep restarting
playback (using the REW button) until it starts up acceptable in sync.

Album art only appears when the machine used for viewing the catalag

print the catalog as PDF and you're done. PDF will put the album art
into the file, just perfect for giving away to your friends.

BTW, an option to include album art directly into the catalog to make
it fully portable would be nice :).

I very much would like to add this option but due to the nature of
HTML, images are always separate files and hence must be linked to. The
only option is to copy all image file to a sub folder of the generated
catalog and link to these images. 1600 albums would than consist of 1601
files. and all have to be kept together when sharing with other users or
to make it portable (if you can still call it portable).

Therefore the PDF solution is much more feasible.

Re: [slim] Integration with DropBox

2010-03-24 Thread bhaagensen

It just occurred to me, that this is a brilliant idea. Obviously,
Dropbox is very nice being natively multiplatform (MAC, PC, Linux,
Iphone, Blackberry, Android?) , webaccessible, general, extremely easy
to use, free (limited), and I think fairly widespread. It would make
portability a no-brainer and fulfills most all basic usability
criterieas.

But the really cool thing, is that it would also solve a problem that
is old and well-known, and which I posted a query to yesterday:

I.e. temporarily adding music to be played on Squeezeboxes.

There is, and it works great. (Actually the XM internet stream is

The problem is, the package XM offers over the internet doesn't include
any of the sports feeds. The goal of this project is to hear the ball

Does SBS actually need to be on the box that the audio comes in on?

Re: [slim] Integration with DropBox

One of the benefits of MP3tunes is that it's focused on music, and they
build a basic server-side index of your music by reading the tags. Also
MP3tunes is a lot cheaper, 50GB for $39.95/year or $4.95 a month, vs
50GB Dropbox for $9.99/month.

With a Dropbox solution you'd be stuck browsing by folders I guess.

There is also no Dropbox API that I can see to make something like this
possible.

you could try a hard reset by holding down the ADD (+) button on the
remote while plugging in the Squeezebox power. Depending on how your
Harmony remote works, the ADD button might produce an IR pulse that
does the trick without needing the continual stream of the Brightness
button. (You might have experiment with exactly when to press the ADD
 button.)

The moment you see the Logitech logo (or on old firmware it's the Slim
Devices logo) that's when you can single press the ADD button to
perform a factory reset when it's powering on.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezeCommander 0.9 for Android

2010-03-24 Thread flattermann

Will it work on the new HTC Desire, which has the HTC Sense GUI and a
480x800 screen resolution? I'm thinking about buying one, but only if I
can use it to control my squeezeboxes.
Yes, SqueezeCommander will work with the HTC Desire. It's tested with
800x480 resolution and even with the upcoming Android version
(Froyo).

Re: [slim] AVG detected a trojan in sb server - false positive?

2010-03-24 Thread Edj11

If you guys doubt if you have an virus, upload your to program (file) to
http://www.virustotal.com and it will be checked with 30+ scanners.
It's much easier then to make an decision if it's a false alarm or not.

Anyone know how to set a static IP addy with the Ubuntu?

Assuming you are using the default Gnome GUI: From the System menu,
select Preferences and then Network Connections from the drop-down
list. You will see a dialog box with tabs for Wired, Wireless, Mobile
Broadband, VPN and DSL. Select the tab of interest (probably Wired or
Wireless), and click on the name of the connection you want to set as
static (e.g., Auto eth1), and click edit. A new dialog box will pop up,
in which you can select a tab to control the IPV4 settings. Once that
tab has been selected, use the pull-down menu to change from Automatic
(DHCP) to Manual and and the click Add, so that you can fill out the
Address, Netmask and Gateway as well as the appropriate DNS server
address. Click Apply. Done.
