Re: [slim] iPad SoftSqueeze App?
That's correct. If you are only after playback, however, you might not have to wait that long since there are already a few alternatives: 1. Open http://your server:9000/stream.mp3 in the Safari browser. You can start the stream, put it in the background (yes, QuickTime can multitask) and then you can control it through the Web Interface, iPeng,... 2. The iPhone App SqueezeCast works on iPad, too. It doesn't have an awful lot of UI but the playback works fine. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79368 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Transporter / best digital input
I don't have a transporter (wish I did!) so take this with a grain of salt: For PC listening (where I sit through most of most days) I had been using my PC's SPDIF out to a receiver, with ralphy's excellent squeezeslave. Sounded pretty good through nearfield monitors. Ralphy came out with an ASIO version (basically a direct-to-sound-device interface). My soundcard didn't have an ASIO driver, so I was using ASIO4All, which was a bit balky on shutdown - but worth it as the sound was a tad improved over going through Windows' directX audio mixer. I've recently added a Behringer 'UFO-202' (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/616368-REG/Behringer_UFO202_UFO202_USB_1_1.html). Which is a USB device that has its own ASIO driver. Balky shutdown issues gone (not germane here) -but- the music quality got a tad better again (I'm hearing spatial info that I didn't before). If I had a transporter near a PC, and I wanted PC sound, I'd think seriously about using one of these (rather than the PC's built-in audio) to send SPDIF to the transporter. But, again, I don't have a transporter, so use some salt here... -- bobkoure bobkoure's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14646 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79363 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] How do I stop scanner.exe from running?
For some reason, scanner.exe arbitrarily starts up and runs on its own with no input from me. I have a large library, so this drags my (Win XP) PC to its knees and I can't get any work done. (It also makes me nervous to hear my hard drive pounding away with a live Internet connection.) This activity occurs on two completely separate systems with Squeeze Server installed. Re: [slim] Is My Squeezebox V3 fried?
First, are you sure the brightness isn't all the way down, so it just looks like it's not turning on? If that's not the case, you might try removing the wifi card inside. It seems to be a common failure. Sometimes it can just be re-seated, but usually it's a failed card. It's at least worth a try (of course you'd have to open the SB3 up). If that turns out to be the problem, you could just run it wired-only, or there are some threads which talk about finding compatible cards on eBay. -- tcutting tcutting's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17402 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79392 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I do see a red light in the back when it's on. The unit is actually warm when it's plugged in so I think it's getting power. Re: [slim] Long ethernet cable network integrity?
So... lief, did you try putting a switch on either end of that long wire? I'm assuming that's how you tested, but don't know. If you're getting a bit of throughput, forcing the switches to use 10 rather than 100 might be all you need. I've an extra 10baseT hub you're welcome to if you want to check this and are in the Boston area. Otherwise, there's ebay - and just stopping into a computer repair place and and seeing if they've got a 10bt router you could borrow for a half day. That's the cheapest way to force the protocol to 10 that I know. I've done this with success with a couple of 400' runs. NB: Both 10 and 100 have 100m limits, I have a few theories as to why 10 is more resilient at somewhat over-spec lengths - but they're just theories (and back to CSMA/CD timings, bit wire lengths, etc.). My experience is that it -does- work, however. There's also PoE, which isn't -that- expensive if you already have a dry place to put the gear.
