Re: [slim] Wake up Lan NAS
Something like iPeng could give you this for free, because it has the capacity to send, when you start it, a wol packet to an arbitrary MAC address. Regular SB players will register the MAC address of the server, making their WOL feature useless. I do not have a running solution (and I fear of timeouts and other issues in practice) but I guess running a proxy service on the server could be an idea. - Some sort of wol proxy: when a wol packet is sent to the server, send another one to the NAS. Built using a raw socket + iptables (on linux)? There are wol proxies out there, I don't know what they do. - HTTP proxy: same idea, listening to server:9000. More flexible since every player action could trigger the wake (but timeout may apply) - Automount script map (linux et al.): when the NAS is down, access to a specific file hierarchy on the server is preceded with a wol packet. Something like 'this' (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1410353). Timeout issues *will* apply. I really do like the Slacker music service. I have Slacker Plus and may upgrade to Premium but it seems that I can only have 6 saved favorite stations. Re: [slim] Where are your CDs?
I noticed someone mentioned the JewelSleeve approach earlier. I used something similar from www.jazzloft.com with great success. I'm pretty sure I looked into JewelSleeve at the time and am guessing it was the cost that decided it. The sleeves from Jazz Loft are 15 cents, or 7.50 USD for 50, whereas they are 24 USD from JewelSleeve. I don't know if there is any technical difference between them but the Jazz Loft ones are good enough for me. BTW, the sleeves don't look like much in their unfilled form but once the CD and inserts are in they seem a bit more substantial - it becomes a bit like a mini gatefold LP. The main disadvantage of them is that you can't easily read the spine. This isn't much of a problem for me as I have enough CDs that are in non-standard boxes etc., interspersed with the sleeved ones, that I can quickly get to the right ballpark if I need to (which is rare in any case these days). -- Zoltan Zoltan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9998 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80369 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Android / Apple devices as a player
It's not so much a question of want. GPL requires that all derived works are also published under GPL. this would include all the code you write in your port plus probably all statically linked libraries. It also requires you to publish all source code with your distribution and this in turn would mean that Apple would have to make sure all of this is available. However, I'm not 100% sure the original issues that lead to this app pull above still apply. Originally the SDK was under NDA which prohibited publishing any source code using it. This was lifted almost two years ago so if you make sure all your code is GPLed and you also make sure all source code is being delivered as part of the App you MIGHT be able to have a GPL app on the App Store. All of this generally applies to Android and the Marketplace in the same way plus the Android Marketplace has an even more restrictive license agreement IMHO. But then you don't have to use it, of course. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80405 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Where are your CDs?
as the jewel sleeve user, I'll note that the sleeves are a little larger than normal (so there is room for the full inserts without cutting) and, I suppose more importantly, there are two slots within each sleeve. One is lined with a soft felt like material for holding the CD itself. Probably not necessary but this may be one reason these cost more. They will send you a free sample if you want to check them out. Once in a while they do a major sale on the sleeves. So I just stocked up in the past.
