It's not so much a question of "want".
GPL requires that all derived works are also published under GPL. this
would include all the code you write in your port plus probably all
statically linked libraries.
It also requires you to publish all source code with your distribution
and this in turn would mean that Apple would have to make sure all of
this is available.

However, I'm not 100% sure the original issues that lead to this app
pull above still apply. Originally the SDK was under NDA which
prohibited publishing any source code using it. This was lifted almost
two years ago so if you make sure all your code is GPLed and you also
make sure all source code is being delivered as part of the App you
MIGHT be able to have a GPL app on the App Store.

All of this generally applies to Android and the Marketplace in the
same way plus the Android Marketplace has an even more restrictive
license agreement IMHO. But then you don't have to use it, of course.
