Of course, we always have the third party Spotify plugin which we have

Anyone's got more info on the news of spotify app on SB Radio/Touch?

Re: [slim] SqueezePlay doesn't see Squeezebox Server

2011-01-05 Thread gjglenn

You need to have a router connected, even though SqueezePlay was running
on the same PC as SBS.

I have an unstable 3G connection to the internet, so prefer to manage
the dongle directly from my PC and have to unplug my 3G router to do
so. Having got SqueezePlay working the first time, if you then
disconnect the router it tells you it cannot connect to your folder
and to check your network.

Re: [slim] Let's make the Squeezebox to the ultimate music discovery device!

2011-01-05 Thread IMGrant

Great thread! I have a couple of ideas/answers:

I too love muso for its album-oriented approach; I tend to play only
albums. Some better logic (or custom tag) for detecting albums and
discarding singles would be good (e.g. 'Tubular Bells' has only two
(very long) tracks, but it's an album, some 'maxi' singles have 8-9
tracks, but they're singles, not albums).

I nearly always find what I want by searching (Google generation,
clicking is too slow...), so fast search is a must (it already is, I
suppose), and I love the way Squeezebox currently returns artists,
albums, etc., not just tracks, so I can search for 'X' and then go
directly to play the album containing 'X', or the track, or whatever. I
guess I'm saying search is already good, but don't forget to make it
better!

I like to play music from an artist I'm going to see a few days before
the gig, so with some social integration (e.g. SongKick, Last.fm),
perhaps Squeezebox could do things like say 'hey, you're going to see
these guys soon, want to listen to them?' (if I have their music
already, or otherwise let me buy it or whatever).

Finally, this one is a bit vague, but perhaps some kind of remote 'info
display' -- for example, I have Squeezebox 2s and control them using IR
remote, phone app or my laptop. If the Squeezebox had a video out, it
would be cool for it to display on my TV a now playing screen with
things like cover art and metadata (more than can be scrolled on the
SB2 display, for example). Obviously the Squeezeboxes don't have video
out, but what if the TV were attached to the server? Or if the server
could send this now playing info to a remote media streamer (I have an
Xtreamer attached to the TV) or something?

Just in case you haven't already discovered it yet, you can customize
which items appear on the Touch's home menu via Settings Home menu.
Also, SBS 7.6.0 (currently alpha/beta) allows for some more
customization. I know it allows re-ordering the home menu, but I don't
remember if it also allows customization of sub-menus.

It only survived the 'No LazySearch' conversation when I demonstrated
it was possible to type it in on the screen but I failed to find a

We'll give it a couple of days as it's new and I'm sure it does things

Bugzilla is not so well maintained as once was it's many duplicates and

But if you solicit 3 votes on your/bug request then it will be

Re: [slim] Bug? other issue? SBS 7.5.3b won't autostart

2011-01-05 Thread MrSinatra

well, without any help beyond the link posted above, i found some
answers. this has been annoying, and i want to walk thru it b/c it
leaves a lot of unanswered questions for the devs to resolve.

i had various r versions of 7.5.2b on win7 64bit running for months
with np. everything started and worked fine regardless of which r
release.

a week or so ago i installed 7.5.3b and at first glance all seemed to
be well. however what i realized after a few days was that on reboot
of the machine, SBS was no longer loading as it had been.

i still do not know why. the tray tool shortcut was present in the
startup folder, but SBS was not loaded. when manually clicked on, i
got a UAC prompt, and even when i clicked thru that, the tray tool /
SBS didn't work. i eventually got rid of the UAC prompts by telling
the shortcut / app via the properties to NOT run as admin. when it was
7.5.2 that didn't seem to be a problem.

regardless of that, i came across the link in my last post, and i did
that, which worked to get SBS listed as a service again. why was that
necessary? why was SBS no longer listed as a service? i still don't
know. it had been listed as a service when it was 7.5.2 but as 7.5.3
suddenly it wasn't.

even then all was not well.

yes, i could now access SBS, but the music was all gone, it said i had
no library configured. it had NO reaction to clear and rescan yet it
had all the right settings. there was no home artists no home
albums etc... no error messages, ugh.

i looked in the server log, and i noticed a lot of mentions of 7.5.2
and the lazy search plugin near each other. why, whats that about?
annoying.

so i go to the plugins page and uncheck that plugin, restart SBS and
voila, everything is back! reboot the machine, and everything is back
to normal.

so why does the plugin kill the SBS/DB communication? and why does SBS
allow it to run if it isn't compatible? i have update plugins
automatically enabled.

here's an idea for a plugin for SBS: plugin verifier!

it would disable any plugin that wasn't rated to work with the SBS
version you're using. that would have saved me a nasty problem.

but anyway, this was a lot of crap to wade thru for just innocently
going from 7.5.2b to 7.5.3b

it would be nice if the devs would at least acknowledge this, meaning
that they would take steps to keep such things from happening again
going forward.

2011-01-05 Thread MrSinatra

Andy,

first, thx for the replies, i really appreciate that.

second, are you saying that you think your build system is the reason
why SBS wasn't listed as a service anymore? and why the tray tool was
messed up?

i really don't mean to bitch, but perhaps you guys should fix your
nightmare build system? i got the DL from a link saying its safe to do
so:

http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Nightly_Builds

i don't know how to use the SVN stuff, why its different, or really
anything about it, i'm not that advanced.

personally, i don't think its your build system, but i wouldn't know.
i just think these kinds of problems should be avoided by you all at
ALL costs. whatever actually is causing nonsense like this, needs
fixed permanently!

as to the plugins...

i understand what you are saying, but thats the point of my plugin
suggestion. if someone used my plugin verifier, what it would do is
disable any plugin where the developer doesn't specifically indicate
that it has been verified to work with the SBS point version installed.
so somewhere in the lazy search plugin for example, would be a line
that says verified with 7.5.3b

i will copy the server log here later if the entries still exist.

thx again for replying!

Unless you have high traffic on other wireless devices, Qos should not
be necessary.

These devices/SBS clear/restart buffers at the beginning of each song
so any one folder to another will involve reloading the buffer.

Perhaps you could explain the issue you are addressing.

Just wanted to say thanks and well done to Ralphy and co for a superb

appears to be rock-stable. It seems to work better than previous
versions with BBC iPlayer streams; I found previous versions did
something weird with the sampling rate so they played slow and deep,
like a tape recorder running out of batteries, but this version is
spot-on. Synchroniation with real players (I have a duet and an SB3)
is also superb. I run the asio version on my Win2003 server (using the

behaving excellently. Thank you!

then stutters and buffers and commands are delayed. Wireless signal
strength is 92%. I am using an Apple Airport Express as a wired access
point to my network, and it sits right beside the SB3. The SB3 works
fine via ethernet. I have another SB3 that began having connectivity
problems last year. I replaced the wireless card, and it worked fine
for about a day, but then it quit working again, so I just use it
wired. Is this wireless card going out, or is there something else I
can try to improve things. Since I have ethernet nearby, I could go
wired. Is there anyway to split ethernet so I could run one cable to
the Airport Express and another to the SB3?

Re: [slim] Resume on power on

2011-01-05 Thread Kyle

This was possible in some very early versions of SqueezeCenter, but
somewhere along the way, it got removed from the program. I have a
whole-house audio system that powers off my SB3 when I turn off the
system. Under SC 6.4 and earlier versions, the system would resume
playing music when it powered up, but later versions of the program
lost this capability.

Re: [slim] Resume on power on

2011-01-05 Thread Pascal Hibon

There is a “Power on Resume” setting under the “Audio” section of each
player in SBS that allows you to set the player to resume playing when
powered on. You can set that to “Pause at power off / Resume at power
on”. I believe that should do the trick.

Re: [slim] All of a sudden SB3 having wireless connection problems

2011-01-05 Thread Pascal Hibon

There might be another AP on the same wireless channel in the
neighbourhood. Maybe one of your neighbours has changed his wireless
setup.
Try switching your Access Point to another channel. By preference that
would be channel 1, 6 or 11. But if there are too many AP#8217;s in
the neighbourhood you might try other channels as well.
