Anyone have any idea how we can get to the beta version?

Re: [slim] Placement of speakers or dock

2011-01-10 Thread sderuiter

Hi,

Both thanks for your reply. The reason that I opted to buy a dock, is
that (IMO) it's much easier to place 1 dock than to place 2 speakers.
My thinking was that for 2 speakers you'd want to be somewhat in the
middle of the speakers to achieve optimal listening. Hence, using a
dock I know I will not have perfect sound, but I will also not have the
difficulty of choosing the perfect location for my 2 speakers...

Wrt ceiling speakers, are these powered as well? Currently I'm still
thinking of buying a Touch for the kitchen area, that feeds either A5s
or ceiling speakers (if they're powered).

Thanks.

Luckily we have some serious developers like Triode who are actually

handle Squeezebox - Spotify development?

Good point, thanks. I've seen that setting but never had an issue
before. It sort of helps, but I would still like the buttons.

By changing the setting, I'm only putting one song in the playlist, but
it is using the Play function and not the Add function, so if I try to
choose another song, the first one is removed from the list, in favor
of the new one. Ideally, of course, both functions are needed.

thanks,

Re: [slim] External display for Transporter, Touch?

2011-01-10 Thread Pascal Hibon

Many WiFi picture frames state they are web enabled but it most cases it
means they can access sources such as Flicker, Facebook and others. They
can’t really just show a web page like a web browser does. There is
maybe one who could do it: Samsung SPF-85V. According to the specs it
has a “mini webpage” viewer for easy Internet access.
http://www.digitalpictureframereview.com/2008/11/review-samsung-spf-85v

There is maybe another possible candidate: the iGala
http://www.igala.com/
I don’t think the iGala supports Internet browsing yet but these people
seem to be very open to suggestions. There have been other people asking
for it. And they also have released an SDK so maybe some developers
could even created a custom application on the iGala.

Re: [slim] Placement of speakers or dock

2011-01-10 Thread aubuti

If you choose the powered in-ceiling route be sure that the person
running the wiring the knows what he/she is doing. The inputs for
self-powered speakers are line-level, not speaker-level, and are
therefore susceptible to picking up interference from AC power lines if
they are too close and/or too parallel to the AC lines. As the
self-powered speakers will also need an AC source the installer needs
to pay attention to local building codes about in-wall/ceiling
electrical supplies.

Personally I found it much easier to use passive in-ceiling speakers
powered by an amp neatly tucked away in the pantry (see
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=285125#post285125). I
added wall-mounted volume controls so you can adjust the volume even if
you can't find the remote. But every home is different, as are
everyone's needs, so certainly do what works best for you.

Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify

2011-01-10 Thread sadglad

Thanks for your help, but I don't think that's the problem. I have
http://192.168.1.12:8124/ in my favourites, and the IP is my computers
IP. I have another favourite with localhost too but it isn't working
either.

I'm running my squeezebox server on the same computer as Spotify and
connect the SB Radio with wifi. The Spotify app works fine but if I can
get the dsbridge to work, I would buy more Squeezeboxes for my home :)

If I put that adress in my Opera webbrowser I get sound for a second.
Could it be a port problem? That's the only thing I haven't been able
to check (don't know how, I've looked but can't find it in Norton).

Agree very much that this would be the best audio solution and simple
and safe. It all depends on specifics of the room and what work you are
having done.

Looking into the sources I see that you have a private libspotify

What is the reason one should choose Spotify over WiMP?

yes, it will be the lowest common rate supported across the devices -

For mp3, the bit rate varies anyway during playback - the 192 is a max
 value.

So even if bit-rate limiting is not enabled on a player, having it in a
sync group causes it to use the mp3 stream?

Re: [slim] iPeng for iPad or SqueezePad?

I went ahead and bought both...

The SqueezePad app has a couple of bugs...

My iPad was called Kevin's iPad. SqueezePad named my iPad Player as
Kevinas iPad - with an um-lot over the a - very troubling on a number
of levels... ;-)

I've tried renaming the Player to Kevs iPad to take out the '. But that
changes it in some places - but not others - does not change it on the
main screen.

Also, squeezepad will play internet radio stations for me - but it will
not play anything from my local server. It gives me Playback Error No
Audio Data found. All of my music is recorded as 320Kbps mp3 files.

What's the easiest way to get help from the program author?

Thanks,

This machine and server have worked fine for a long time.
I'm not sure when this started happening.
A couple of months ago I (finally) upgraded my server-let from win2k to

Sorry to be scattered on the time, Mom's got Alzheimers and Dad's in

I started using ASIO with ASIO4All but had shutdown issues. Switched to
a Beringer UCA202 USB sound card, which came with its own ASIO driver
and that issue stopped. That was long before this happened.

I'll test non-ASIO and see how that goes.

BTW, I keep getting basically 'thread is stopped' when I have a

for example you got an slimp3 or SB1 (they have limited file type
support)Or if you are using hirez. In the hirez case If not all players
can fo 24/96 you get 24/48 FLac for example.
If all player natively can play the file then you got no limitation.
