I came to realise that iPeng may not know the number of songs before
SBS has done its processing and sent iPeng the songs. That was probably
what you were referring to in your initial remark.

Another way to limit the number of songs would be to request only X
songs and if the max number of songs was returned show in iPeng a Show
all songs button.

Re: [slim] Announcing SqueezePad - the first dedicated iPad App to controll your SqueezeBoxen !

2011-01-29 Thread Fvhemert

bluegaspode;606169 Wrote:
The problem is that all system (Classic, Webinterface, newer
Squeezeboxes) use different ways to retrieve data.
In this particular case code is involved, that is only called on
systems that generate a menu (like Touch, Controller, Radio,
 SqueezePlay or SqueezePad).
So other system (like Classic, System that use the CLI interface or the
Web-Interface) might not be affected at all.

How many Squeezeboxes do you have?
What type of stream are they playing currently? Could you please start
a stream from your local collection on any Squeezebox and see if this
 (for now) fixes the problem?

 Do you have MusicIP installed?

Tried trouble shooting this a bit more, I have 2 classic squeezeboxes
and one PC with SoftSqueeze. All run fine after I updated to the 7.5.3.
version of squeeze server, except the Squeezepad, it has problems
connecting to the squeezeserver as toutlined in previous posts.

Finally I have downgraded to 7.5.1 (the version I was runnning prior to
the upgrade) now evrything runs fine, the classics, the softsqueeze
client and also SqueezePad connects instantly and works without
problems.

My conclusion: compatibility isssues Squeezepad and version 7.5.3.

I noticed your signature (Server (7.5.1) running on SheevaPlug
(Ubuntu) with attached Western Digital MyBook Essential), have you
already tested with the 7.5.3 version?

Thank you, I'm going to try this.
But I don't see how I can add a whole work (containing 3 songs) to a

Re: [slim] Announcing SqueezePad - the first dedicated iPad App to controll your SqueezeBoxen !

2011-01-29 Thread bluegaspode

Yeah - I'm running 7.5.3 already, my signature was not updated.
I also did run through a lot of tests against different version of
SqueezeBox server the whole last week as the new version of SqueezePad
is about to be released.

I have to ask my questions again:
- are you running MusicIP ?
- did you try to change the streams on all your Squeezeboxes (including
Softsqueeze) to a local stream ?
- what other plugins did you install in the server
- what streams do you typically listen to ?

That your Classics and SoftSqueeze are running unfortunately doesn't
tell us anything.
They use a completely different codepath through the Squeezebox-Server
and might not be running into this issue at all.

I also looked up the server-code now, that raises the error:

Code:

my $track = Slim::Player::Playlist::song($client,
$playlist_cur_index, $refreshTrack);
if ($track-remote) {

It selects the current track and asks if it is a remote stream. So the
error with high probability is connected to the type of stream you are
playing.

Re: [slim] iPeng roadmap poll

2011-01-29 Thread Phil Meyer
 5. The Artists = Various Artists screen is useless when it lists the
VA albums in year order (which order is logic for all other artists).
Have that screen always display the albums in album name order instead.
As it is now I have to use a separate CustomBrowse menu to display my
 VA albums.

I would need that to be identified by SBS which I don't think is going
to happen, sorry. It's simply too hard to reliably identify that menu
other wise.
Is it possible to discover the default compilation artist name (i.e. the pref
value stored in SBS Settings My Music, usually blank meaning Various
Artists).

I'd really like it if there were a Browse Compilations mode, which is
effectively a shortcut to Artists Various Artists, sorted by album name.

Or perhaps some way to quickly change sort order would be nice. eg. a toggle
button to switch between album name or year order.
Even better would be to remember this setting per artist, so Artists Various
Artists could be switched to order by album, but other artists would be sorted
by year.

That's going to come.
I have to move towards using the SqueezePlay NP info anyway,

lot of work.

So for albums, show album artist, and for songs show contributors (artists AND
OPTIONALLY bands, composers, conductors BUT NOT album artist)? Please!

Re: [slim] SBS iTunes integration on a ReadyNAS

2011-01-29 Thread jhaye

Hi,

I'm experiencing similar issues as some people already reported, while
I see that others are succesful in making it working.

My setup is:
iTunes 10.1.1 running on Win7
ReadyNAS DUO running RAIDiator 4.1.7
SqueezeBox server 7.5.3 for sparc-readynas platform running on my
ReadyNAS
iTUNES plugin v1.0 running on my ReadyNAS

My itunes music folder is on my NAS, in /Multimedia/MUSIC/iTunes. The
iTunes library has been created from scratch on my NAS with not more
than 4 tracks, for rapid test purpose.

My SBS ReadyNas config is as below. I have included 2 snapshots,
respectively:
- Basic settings tab
- iTunes settings tab (which BTW includes all iTunes tracks, even those
unchecked if any)

I'm also joining 2 results snapshots, respectively:
- iTunes list scan process, showing that 4 tracks are indeed properly
discovered.
- Scan result snapshot, indicating that ZERO tracks have been
included.

I have enabled debug mode for iTunes plugin (in Advanced tab from SBS
web GUI), and what I see in scanner log file for each song is that there
seems to be a path normalization problem:

If my iTunes (running on my PC) points to
\\NAS-NIDERAND\Multimedia\MUSIC\iTunes then I get scan log messages
like
Slim::Plugin::iTunes::Common::normalize_location (363) Normalized
file://localhost//NAS-NIDERAND/Multimedia/MUSIC/iTunes/iTunes%20Media/...mp3
to file:NAS-NIDERAND/Multimedia/MUSIC/iTunes/iTunes%20Media/...mp3

If my iTunes (running on my PC still) points to a connected network
drive like X:\MUSIC\iTunes (where X is mounted as
\\NAS-NIDERAND\Multimedia) then I get scan log messages like
Slim::Plugin::iTunes::Common::normalize_location (363) Normalized
file://localhost/X:/MUSIC/iTunes/iTunes%20Media/...mp3 to
file:///X:/MUSIC/iTunes/iTunes%20Media/...mp3

In both cases, this is followed by a file not found result as the
normalized file names are still not understandable for the NAS :-(

Based on my findings, I'm EXTREMELY interested how the working setups
are looking like...

Many thanks for your help, as I'm getting desperate :-(

The problem with the Various Artists is that it's localized. I'll have a
look at the strings but IIRC you can't even assume it's coming with the
same localization as the interface.

Quickly changing the sort order is another thing that's not really
simple because it involves re-requesting the menu from the server.

And buttons, yes, I know about at least 10 other buttons I should
really have on every page...

I run into this whether sb server is set to be a service or an app

Also: if I copy the old cache folder to the new location (so there's a

Once I've copied the old cache, if I stop both processes, delete
my.cnf, restart sb server, sb server -will- write another my.cnf, but
sb mysql will not start.

Same behavior for SqueezeboxServer-7.5.2-31545.

Pressing pause while playing Music Library/random songs works

[slim] 7.5.3: Rhapsody issue and can't connect to MySB

2011-01-29 Thread ajkidle

Running 7.5.3. Rhapsody suddenly does not work for any of my players.
(Was working earlier today with 7.5.3.) I tried switching things over
to MySB rather than running it through my VortexBox -- 2 weird things
happened.

1 - The SB3 gives me the error Can't find address for
mysqueezebox.com
2 - My Boom will connect to MySB.com and then Rhapsody works. Switch
back to the VortexBox and it's broken again.

Pandora works fine, as always, so it can't be that my VortexBox is
somehow disconnected from the internet. Anyone else having problems?
It's almost like my VortexBox is getting in the way of Rhapsody, which

[slim] Can't connect to the SBS

2011-01-29 Thread Gatineau Ross

When I try to connect I get the following message on the SB display
screen, Couldn't find DHCP server. When I re-enter the IP address is
does not connect to the server.
The diagnostics tab in the SBS Control Panel indicates that the Port
3483 failed; Port 9000 failed and Port 9090 failed.
How can I get my SB up and running again?

Try a complete network reboot. Unplug router, shut down the server
computer, turn off SB players.
Now bring them back on in that same order waiting for each device to
completely boot up before proceeding to the next device.
Obviously start SBS before turning on the SB players.

Re: [slim] 7.53 not recreating my.cnf

2011-01-29 Thread JJZolx

I wonder if this has anything to do with the changes made that give you
a new performance option for database memory use. Maybe manual edits
of the template file no longer work, since the server now has two MySQL
config file templates, my.tt and my-hightmem.tt. Or maybe you need to
edit the other one.

Settings Advanced Performance Database Memory Config

I recommend installing your own instance of MySQL 5.0. Then you
control the MySQL configuration completely and how the service runs.

The steps to follow are basically:

- Install 'MySQL 5.0'
  ([url=http://downloads.mysql.com/archives.php?p=mysql-5.0v=5.0.91).
I believe the installer will either automatically configure it as a
Windows service, or else give you the option to do so.

- Install a MySQL management client (I use 'SQLyog'

- Using the client, log into the MySQL server as root.

- Create an new (empty) database for Squeezebox Server with any name
  you like.

- Create a MySQL user for SbS and give the account a password.

- Grant the new user all permissions on the SbS database.

- Change your SQL settings in server.prefs to something like the
  following:

Code:

dbpassword: myslimserverpwd
dbsource: dbi:mysql:hostname=127.0.0.1;port=3306;database=slimserver
dbusername: slimserver

Make sure the port is set to 3306, which is the standard MySQL port
number. Set database to the name of the MySQL database you created,
and enter the username and password of the account you created.

You can edit my.ini in the MySQL program directory as you like. Just
restart the MySQL service to have it recognize the changes. You might
have to edit my.ini after step #1 above to remove the IP address
binding to be able to access the server from another machine on your
network. If there's a bind-address=x.x.x.x line in the file, remove
it.

prior to loading 7.5.3 If anyone has any suggestions to have them work

Try the network reboot suggested in your other thread. Also try

If no luck then you can always switch the SB3 to MySB.com online for
internet radio music services for your gathering.

Hey Toby,
I went through the complete network reboot. I still can't connect to
the server. I'm sure the problem occurred when my system was going
through the automatic update for 7.5.3, I clicked on the dialog box and
it was like the update froze so I canceled it. That is when all my
problems started. I've never had such a challenging problem like this
in the 3 years I've owned my SB3.
Also my browser (Firefox) gives me the following error message when it
tries to load the interface, Firefox can't establish a connection to

Any suggestions on how I can connect to the server?

Re: [slim] 7.53 not recreating my.cnf

2011-01-29 Thread bobkoure

For anyone else looking at this, the MySQL link got mangled, it's
'downloads.mysql.com/archives.php?p=mysql-5.0v=5.0.91'
there were several win flavors. I went with MySQL 'essentials'.

SQLyog looks pretty good, but it's a 30 day free trial. Maybe not the
best fit for something I'd use a few times a year.
There's a top 10 list of MySQL GUI clients 'here'
Personally, I'm familiar with PHPMyAdmin, but I'm unexcited about
installing Apache and PHP on this box.
I ended up using HeidiSQL (does all I need: create db, create
user/password, assign rights to that user on that db)

With the prefs file modified, SBS 7.54 starts right up.
Time to mess with performance. :)

One question: what to do with the SqueezeMySQL service? I just left it
set to 'disabled' but I may have missed something cleaner.

Yes, set it to 'Disabled' so that Squeezebox Server will be unable to
start it up. You can manually uninstall the service using instsrv.exe
from the 'Microsoft Resource Kit Tools'
but if you run the SbS installer in the future it will just be created
again.

Re: [slim] 7.53 not recreating my.cnf

2011-01-29 Thread bobkoure

I notice that MySQL already has
innodb_buffer_pool_size=305M
This was with the mixed (meaning this PC is used for stuff other then
MySQL) option - and is just slightly large for me.
The 'highmem' option in SBS sets it to just 32M. I suspect we need a
'loads-of-mem' option.

Without SbMySql complications, it was trivial getting the cache moved
over to ramdrive (I did modify both of those settings in prefs, still
not sure what the 'library' one does).

BTW, for Win2k3, I've had very good luck with the ' Dataram ramdisk'
- free (up to 4G)
- can load from a disk image at system start (file system driver)
- can save to drive image at shutdown
- has an auto save feature

Ah, that's different. You may have an incomplete SBS install now,
never stop an install in progress.
I'd suggest a complete uninstall of SBS. On a PC hit Start All
Programs SqueezeBox Server Uninstall
Now go to http://mysqueezebox.com/download and download the correct SBS
version for your computer.
Run the SBS .exe program, let it completely install (may take a few
minutes). Now try to connect.

If you just want SBS to ignore MP3 files, why not go to Advanced/File

If you've got cue files, but keep your FLAC files as separate tracks,
IMO, it's a good idea to ignore CUE as well (but that has nothing to do
with your current issue)

Re: [slim] SqueezeBox control app for Palm webOS devices

2011-01-29 Thread Bryanba

Hello,

I have read though this thread and am interested in the Control App. I
have a couple general questions about the licensing and App download for
WebOS.. Since I have never paid for an app in the App Catalog I have
never understood how the licensing works.

I have a Palm Pre and the Squeezebox Duet.

If I purchase the app and then for whatever reason I get a
new/replacement WebOS device do I own a license to download it again
for no cost? Is there a way to save it to disk for reinstall?

AngryGoat, do you plan to develop an Android version? and if so will
the license for this transfer to the Android if I were to replace my
WebOS phone with an Android model?

Thanks
Bryan

Re: [slim] SqueezeBox control app for Palm webOS devices

2011-01-29 Thread wt0

From what I understand about the App Catalog, purchases are linked to
your Palm profile. As long as the device is using the same profile that
you purchased the app with you can re-download the app without having to
pay again. However, a profile can only support one device at a time, so
if you replace your phone, make sure you to go to your profile
management page on the web and delete to old device before trying to
sign in with the new one.

For a more definitive answer, you should ask HP/Palm. App developers
actually have absolutely no control over the app download and purchase
process of the App Catalog. We just submit the app to HP/Palm and they
handle the rest. I'm pretty sure that's how it works for the App
catalogs/stores of all the major phone platforms.

Currently I have no plans to develop for Android. I don't own an
Android phone and I don't really have the time either. Even if I do, I
doubt that there is anyway for me to do a license transfer, unless
HP/Palm and Google decides to allow that.

Please direct further questions about Squeeze Control to the official
forum:
http://forums.precentral.net/angrygoat/251367-squeeze-control.html

Hope this helps.

You can't.

If you are talking about random playlists, I think the only way it
might be possible to make this work is to make sure each work is tagged
as an individual album and play random playlists with Random Mix or
Dynamic Playlist plugin and select to play random albums. This will add
one album at the time and if I remember correctly it won't shuffle the
songs within an album.

I think it should be possible to do a Random Works playlists with
custom WORK tags if you use Custom Scan, SQL Playlist and Dynamic
Playlist plugin but it will require that you know some SQL so you can
configure the SQL Playlist as there isn't any predefiend templates for
this particular scenario.
