Hi pippin,
I stayed with 7.3.4 because it operates flawlessly, and also because I
have no Touch or Radio that would require 7.5.x.
I also see on this board many SC 7.5.x users that are unhappy or
frustrated by the experience. In my case, I don't think I have anythig
to gain by upgrading.

I am very happy that both your iPeng and Bluegaspode's Squeezepad work
well with SC 7.3.4. Both apps work absolutely great for me. I tried the
new Logitech app...I won't be using it ever again.
I don't beleive either of the third party app developers have anything

Re: [slim] SqueezeSlave Audio Output Problem

2011-05-07 Thread ralphy

Currently there is no way to have squeezeslave do what you'd like. It
requires the index number.

Another forum member created a 'bash script'
(http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=443013postcount=23) for
linux to parse the output of squeezeslave -L matching the device name
they wanted with the index number squeezeslave needs. Perhaps you can
adopt the idea and create a cmd script in windows to do the same?

I've added output device selection by name to the TODO list.

I'd also suggest you update to the latest beta build ' 1.0-249'
and I did receive both your PMs.

[slim] Pandora and Sirius question

2011-05-07 Thread bitstopjoe

I know Pandora does not stream higher than 128 and the same with Sirius.
I have a premium ( highter bit rate) with Sirius and yet it still only
streams at 128. So my question is.. Why bother paying for a premium
subscription for both of these services if all you do is stream them to
your SB??? Pandora says they are small and can't afford to stream at a
higher bit rate ( which makes no sense since they say they can stream
to your PC at a higher rate for $36 a year). Sirius never got back to
me when I asked why cant I stream to my Touch at a higher bit rate when
I am paying for the premium service now and it plays back on my PC at
the higher bit rate but not my SB.

Thank you...

Not sure of the technical reasons, but my understanding is that (since
the last few months at least) you can't stream sirius unless you have
paid for the internet streaming option in addition to your regular
subscription. And in regard to pandora, one benefit of premium is no
limit on hours of use per month and also ad free. Keep in mind that
most SB users haven't actually noticed any ads until recently, but they
seem to be popping up now.

See this on Pandora and 192 streaming:

Prior to their new interface, one had the option to switch between
standard and preimum and the difference was noticable. However that
option is no longer there so it is possible they no longer stream at
192. Which sucks as I didnt get any refund for NOT getting the

Oh well.. With all that is out there to listen too, I don't see the

agree. My only real reason for sirius/xm is radio in the car. If I
didn't want the car radio, I'd not subscribe. At home I rarely actually
listen to sirius. edit: p.s. I can say that now I recall that my
premium streaming with XMradio did give my 128 instead of 64 (or was
it 96). So maybe that's what you had. 128 would certainly sound a lot
better than 64.

Re: [slim] New computer to act as server..?

2011-05-07 Thread pablolie

There are several systems available like this one
http://us.shuttle.com/X350.aspx
Note this is not the only one, and I do not work for the company or
anything related. It's a neat clean design (IMO) and suffices for
browsing and the task you have in mind. (I'd still rather build my own
:-))

 - Run quietly when it's 'sleeping'(so towers are out of the
question???)

Pretty much any computer will be fairly silent when in low-power sleep
mode. But quite a few computers these days can be quiet even under load
- they just have to be designed smartly. I have a very quiet office and
silence is a big thing for me.

I'll be using if for storing music, surfing the net, some basic work
etc.
(using MS office) and a little bit of gaming (generally 4-5 year old
games).

Like someone else said, any sort of gaming prolly means you want to
look for ION graphics at least.

I'd like to have the server on this machine and having the server on
the USB drive has failed utterly for me.

What is 'Wake On LAN' and how would it work in practise? Does it mean
I
can shut down my computer but the SB would wake it up..?

Computers have several low power modes these days. If it's really shut
down, nothing other than pushing the power on switch will make the
computer run.

However, sleep mode is something you can enable. Sleep mode is a low
power mode that preserves the computer's current status (running
programs etc) and thus you don't have to go through boot-up when waking
it up. The computer will only draw a few watts in sleep mode.

In sleep mode, the computer will be passively waiting for something to
wake it up and feed power to all motherboard components again and
quickly resume operation. It typically would be a keystroke or mouse
click, but you can also enable a function called WOL. It means the
computer is waiting for a specific wake-up request from the network. If
it's a server, that means that clients can wake it up when they have a
request for the server. The Squeeze clients support this and will send
WOL requests to your sleeping SBS.

One thing to keep in mind is that WOL can be a bit finicky to really
get to work in Windows given the vast array pf possible hardware. So I
would not 100% count on it to work.

Regarding crashes, I just integrated a crash reporting framework. You
will be able to report those and I'll be able to avoid them :).
Regarding the Squidget service process still there - there is nothing I
can do about it. It's an Android documented behavior in which when you
signal the system to stop a service, it marks the service as
unnecessary, and keeps it until it needs the resources this service
claimed again or until an unknown period of time. I can not force the
OS to kill it (at least with the permission set I request for Squidget
- which I try to keep minimal).
I will look into implementing Squidget service differently so that it
will use a non persistent service in the near future. Like you, I don't
like to see a running service in the application menu.

[slim] Will a SBT play Broadcast Wave Files?

2011-05-07 Thread buelligan

I am interested in acquiring a Tascam HD-P2 which records in .bwf file
format.

If not, is there any kind of utility to convert them to flac? (88.2
kHz, most likely.)

Thanks in advance for any help,

Henry Aguado

Re: [slim] Creating a Playlist (How???)

2011-05-07 Thread dickmc

Easiest way to make both simple and complex playlists is to use the FREE
version of Winamp and simply save the resulting playlist (m3u) files to
your Slimserver music folder. You can also easily drag selections up
and down within the Winamp playlist editor to change their order within
the playlist. You can also readily add and delete selections within your
playlists using Winamp. When you rescan your Music file it will
automatically find and list all your Winamp playlist (m3u) files.

For a sneak preview of how Winamp playlist creation works, see

The free version of Winamp 5.61 (which I might add is a darn good
player) is at http://www.winamp.com/media-player/en

Have fun.

Windows media player will let you create playlists and save them in m3u
format.

Re: [slim] Music for parties

2011-05-07 Thread GeeJay

There are many of us who feel your pain, marvt75, and vocally championed
Party Mode several years ago. For whatever reason, Logitech never made
it a priority, which is befuddling since the Squeezebox can be the
ultimate party machine.

In any event, there is no built in solution to your problem. iPeng is
the only option, as far as I know, and it works rather well. Maybe one
day the folks at LT will figure out this is a useful feature that a lot
of folks want, and will include it as part of the core product. But I'm
not holding my breath
