Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezeCommander 0.9 for Android

2011-05-12 Thread jamesking

Hm,

This has recently stopped working for me - it simply won't connect to
my local server.

Still connects to the web version OK though... Are there any trouble
shooting ideas, or ways to get help? I haven't changed any settings,
in fact, the only thing that's changed is that I updated to the latest
version!

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...

2011-05-12 Thread bluegaspode

mrfantasy;630722 Wrote:
I'm running CyanogenMod 7.0.3 (Android 2.3.3) on a Motorola Droid. It
may be a problem with the connection dropping or reestablishment like
you said. This phone is also CDMA instead of GSM and that might be
 affecting the behavior as well.

You could probably simulate the problem by manually turning off WiFi,
but it may not be the same as losing signal.

I did a test and I'm interested in how this behaves for you:

- connected SqueezePlayer via WiFi, it's showing 'WiFi connected'
- rebooting my router. This should simulated quite good a normal lost
WiFi network (?!)
- Android needs 1-2 seconds to realize that WiFi is lost and removes
the WiFi icon.
SqueezePlayer shows a short 'no network', followed by a '3G connecting
...'

(In my case I have not port forwarding set up, so it won't connect)

- WiFi returns, Android sets up WiFi connection, SqueezePlayer
reconnects via WiFi.

I guess the first three steps should be the same for you - and I don't
have a better idea how to simulate leaving the WiFi area to make
Android switch to 3G. But as expected SqueezePlayer realized that it's
connection is lost and tries to reconnect (via whatever network channel
Android has set up).

I'm not sure how the last one will behave for you, but my understanding
is, that Android only supports one connection type at a time, so it
might be the same for you, if your Android decides to drop the 3G
connection in favor of WiFi.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Squidget - A SqueezeBox Widget for Android

2011-05-12 Thread ganjastone

strindberg;630738 Wrote:
I see some weirdness with regard to the player list. Sporadically, when
I press the player icon, Squidget reports No items to display instead
of the player list. If I immediately press the player button again, it
usually finds and displays the players. This has happened 3-4 times
during the last couple of days.

Last night, when I turned to Squidget, it was displaying a laptop as a
player icon, although I only had a few regular Squeezeboxes of various
types connected to the server (i.e. no iPeng or Squeezeplayer). When I
pressed the player icon, it reported No items to display. When I
pressed it again, I could choose among the connected players. I started
Squeezecommander to search for a song and started playing it. When I
then went back to Squidget, it was again displaying the laptop icon.

Unfortunately I didn't think of looking at what player name Squidget
 was displaying at the time.

Two issues here:

1. When Squidget finds it is not connected to the server during players
retrieval, there is a bug showing no items instead of telling you its
not connected. Will fix in coming release.
2. The default player icon is a laptop. This means that when Squidget
loses connection, and while re-establishing one, it will default to
that icon, allowing you to have a button to press on in the meantime.
Not ideal solution (even a confusing one) but I'm open to suggestions.

[slim] Android Squeezeplayer over SSH?

2011-05-12 Thread strindberg

Has anyone tried running Squeezeplayer on an Android over an SSH tunnel
(over 3G)? I would love to be able to connect remotely to my server,
but I am reluctant to do so without proper security configured.

Has anyone tried this with SSH or VPN? Would it work?

Hi strindberg,

Together with another user I tried with SSH tunneling using 'irrsi
connectbot'. This tool allows to configure port forwarding via SSH and
is really easy to setup (when one has a Linux server with an already
open SSH port).

Unfortunately there seems to be a bug down the network route/tunnel:
The connection to the download Stream (stream.mp3) never ends (at least
from the perspective of SqueezePlayer), so SqueezePlayer doesn't know
when to start downloading the next song.
So with this solution one needs to skip song by song :(
We tried to analyze network logs, but didn't come to a conclusion yet.

I didn't look yet if there are other SSH clients available that create
a better working tunnel.

OpenVPN should work too of course, didn't have time to test this yet,
but would be interested of course if someone else has set this up
already.

[slim] AWARD: YouTube Plugin

2011-05-12 Thread pippin

Ok, since there doesn't seem any progress with this on it's own, let's
add some motivation:

1. I'm willing to award and iPad 2, (your choice of 32GB, WiFi only or
16GB with 3G) including a smart cover in a color of your choice.
2. It goes to the first one who releases a working Squeezebox Server
plugin for SBS 7.5+ (better: 7.6+) that works on at least Ubuntu Linux
and is able to play a given YouTube video (provided as a YouTube URL)
on a Squeezebox through SBS. Audio only, of course. Any Squeezebox
preferred but I can accept if it only works on SB Touch, Radio(Touch
alone is not enough). It needs to be at least remote controllable
through SBS/SqueezePlay (that is: it has to work with iPeng ;) ) so an
Applet will not be enough but it may rely on an applet.

Interested, anyone?

[slim] SqueezeyTunes - NEW! Remote control app for Blackberry PlayBook

There are a few apps around for various mobile platforms, but none for
the blackberry! I've been working on SqueezeyTunes - a Squeezebox
remote control for the Blackberry Playbook, and soon also for
touchscreen blackberry smartphones like the 9800 Torch.

We'll be adding more information to this website:

If you have a Playbook and want to give the app a try, please let us

Squeezeytunes is a new app, and we are still working on adding more
features, but if you have any issues or suggestions please do let us

Re: [slim] SqueezeyTunes - NEW! Remote control app for Blackberry PlayBook

2011-05-12 Thread Jaicee

Nice work, I hope you got one of the free dev playbooks for this. Couple
of points of feedback.

*If you turn on a SB after starting up the app it doesn't appear in the
players dropdown.
*Albums and artists could do with being cached, it shouldn't have to
take all that time to populate the list every time you go into artists
or albums.
*Artists and albums text is too small, the artwork could do with being
much bigger and finger friendly.
*The playlist text is too small, there's lots of room in each line to
increase it.
*Volume up and down isn't graduated enough, you can click it several
times without the visual indicator going up.
*If you select an artist there's no way to go back to the artist list
at the place you were at
*No shuffle/repeat controls
*Could do with being smoother scrolling

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...

2011-05-12 Thread mrfantasy

I did something similar, except turned off WiFi on the phone and turned
it back on:

1) Wifi off: reconnect with 3G, rebuffered new song, as you
predicted.
2) Wifi on: song kept playing as Wifi connected, but buffer emptied,
song stopped. Although SqueezePlayer reports WiFi connected there
is no buffering or music playback.
3) Wifi off again: Goes to 3G connected, no buffering, no playback.

The server, however, still sees the player, and looks like it's still
playing to it if you look at it via the web interface. When it gets to
the end of the song the remaining timer keeps going up and the song
length also increases (I've seen this with other communications
problems with the server.)
Eventually SqueezePlayer just hangs, if I haven't turned playback off
and on.

need to swap audio/video inputs, etc between TV and Squeezebox client.
With just a couple of clicks of the remote control can have me playing
any radio station, pull up a full bio or latest news ticket for the the
artist/group, I can play the respective HD music video for the song I'm
listening instantly.. or simply watching/record any HDTV / Comcast On
Demand channel (without re-encoding)... or watch any blu-ray I want
within seconds; with an optional 1080p movie trailer before the movie
starts; not to mention with on click I can find height, age and other
