Yeah, it's pretty sad. I don't want to see my beloved Squeezeboxes
languish into extinction, but it's not looking good lately...

2011-06-24 Thread JJZolx

When you read through a bug report like the one below, you can't help
but think that Logitech has totally thrown in the towel on Squeezebox.

http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=17157

A MAJOR bug that makes the Sirius service all but unusable for many
people. Logitech blames Sirius and closes the bug instead of attempting
to do anything about it, including working with Sirius to see what may
be wrong.

Re: [slim] Slacker Premium Radio

2011-06-24 Thread JJZolx

Is there a single premium music service that Logitech actually _does_
support fully? Or a service that doesn't have major bugs that Logitech
tosses off as being on the service provider's side?

Logitech puts in minimal effort into adding cursory support for a
service, adds a few bullet points to their marketing materials, then
washes their hands of supporting it beyond keeping it from becoming
totally broken.

No. I haven't created any scripts like that.

Yes it does in interactive mode you can press and hold forward and the
display changes to

Code:

  Time:
22:55 / -2:40:24
  [##
   ]

you can then use rewind/forward to scroll to a point in time for the
playing stream, when you release the key the stream continues at the
new offset

These are the IR codes I'm talking about.

Code:

  case '<': ir = 0x7689c03f; break; /* rew */
  case '>': ir = 0x7689a05f; break; /* fwd */

This is all done on the server but it does work quite nicely.

Re: [slim] Non Logitech squeezebox alternative

2011-06-24 Thread rcampbel3

I saw this too.

My thoughts. I don't want a DLNA-only audio player. I'm very happy with
the richness of squeezebox for audio and specifically I like the central
config/integration for the mysqueezebox.com services. I certainly WOULD
like the ability to run other apps on a similar radio/boom/touch hybrid
device.

Looking at the archos, It sure looks like it's got a camera
built-in...

Imagine all the other cool things you could do if your 'squeezebox'
could run android apps including skype, hulu, netflix... oh, and you
could throw in a google TV client and I might just use find a use for
it.

I'd be very interested in an android-based radio successor with stereo,
similar battery, and a large touch display... I'd probably buy SIX.

With a built-in camera, in addition to skype, you could do local video
chat, baby monitor, security cameras...

PM sent.

Recently I've picked up a couple mk2a empegs for around $100/ea. This
seems like a great price to me considering the hardware. These were
fixer-upper units but I'm pretty handy with the soldering iron.

As an aside, I haven't looked into it yet but does Squeezeslave support
seeking inside a song? With the IR codes I found for the Boom, it has
separate keydown and keyup codes. This means that it detects a long
press for track seek but it doesn't do anything, and I'm guessing
Squeezeslave does not support this somehow.

Checking the specs... it supports FLAC. Not bad. But the speakers are
merely described as "2 built-in High Definition Speakers". When that's
your "Tech specs", all it says to me is that good sound isn't the

Of course.

Would it possible for you to send me a PM with an svn diff file as it
is now?

I'd really like to try your audio thread changes on my old laptop and
windows, as I've had two forum members report similiar glitches
recently.

I could create a branch for the empeg player on the squeezeslave

easier for both of us.
PM me if you're interested.
