Re: [slim] Pandora/Squeezebox. L arrow button
Boom: neither the large button push, nor the right button on the remote, move the display to Pandora track info (like/ dislike/ don't play for a month/ album/ artist/ title/ etc.). It has worked for years, as stated in the manual, until now - it really diminishes the usefulness of the product (can't like/dislike, can't train Pandora channel). Has there been any feedback from Squeezebox Support? I know that the Boom has been replaced with an inferior model (only one set of speakers - apparently monophonic - to reduce cost?), but there's no reason not to support all of the Booms still in use. -- zen2go zen2go 10%-10x zen2go's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18639 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89124 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] 7.6 update - Scan stuck on pre-caching artwork
So I updated to 7.6 and have run into problems as others have here. My issue is the scan gets stuck on the Pre-caching Artwork and I have to abort it. After spending several hours and trying the various suggestions here having to do with the upgrade, I'm going back to 7.5. But I thought I would post the end-portion of the scanner.log in hopes someone has a fix. Re: [slim] 7.6 is totally broken
I have been reading several of these threads recently in the hope of finding a solution ... Set-up: SB Touch + Duet, running SB server on Windows 7 (64-bit). I upgraded to 7.6 last week and within 24/48 hrs both the Controller and Touch required upgrades. In both cases the Downloads failed to work until I had switched the devices off and then restarted them (Controller: hold down on button for 8 seconds; Touch: unplug power lead). I forget exactly when but at some stage in the upgrade process I lost - say - 80-90% of the artwork. All music files are WMA rips held on an external HDD (USB connection) within 9 genre directories; artwork is from a range of sources, the majority being found when the album is ripped. I often divide and amalgamate albums and then will find artwork ffrom various web-sites (e.g. Amazon). Everything is organised in Microsoft Windows Media Player 12 / Windows Explorer. I have cleared the cache (SB Server Control Panel / Advanced-Cleanup) From SB Server / Information tab: Version: 7.6.1 - r32935 @ Fri Jul 29 07:46:37 PDT2011 Library Statistics Total Tracks: 31,056 Total Albums: 2,479 Total Artists: 408 Total Genres: 12 Total Playing Time: 1573:28:05 Music Scan Details Discovering files (33929 of 33929) Complete 00:00:25 Scanning new files (31056 of 31056) Complete 01:22:37 Discovering Playlists (1 of 1) Complete 00:00:00 Pre-caching Artwork (2231 of 2231) Complete 00:04:13 The server has finished scanning your music collection. Total time: 01:27:15 (Monday, August 1, 2011/9:03am) This morning I unistanlled SB server and downloaded (again) v. 7.6.1-r32935. the scan took nearly 1.5hrs (as above) and I now have - say - 70-80% (guess) of the artwork though the statistics appear to say I should have 90% (= 2231 / 2,479). Also, whislt I have corrected the genre name via WMA for some rips, one of the Genres (DVD Rip) appears three times (DVD Rip, DVD rip and Dvd Rip) and another Genre (Easy Listening) appears twice (Easy Listening and Easy listening). I have indentified the incorrect names and corrected them (last week) but despite re-scans, etc. these incorrect Genre names won't go away! Two issues (maybe this second issue is not related to v.7.6) - help? -- MusicMad MusicMad's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32948 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89144 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Free AVG Anti Virus Software
I spent many years of bouncing between free choices with varying luck (AVG once bricked a PC after quarantining a key Win file). About six months ago I bought Norton with multi-PC licenses and can't believe the difference. I'm very happy with the resulting performance and capabilities. Their tech support is great and I've had far fewer problems of use that with the others, and I tried most of them. I'm not sure what I thought I was accomplishing by avoiding the ones with a license fee, the cost was very modest. [slim] Which amp for a squeezebox?
I am not new to wireless media centers. I used a roku for about 5 years. But something broke down on it. Not sure if it is the just the power cord or the doodad itself. I was not able to find a replacement for the power cord, and I was in the process of moving and selling my various other audio equipment. So here I am with nothing but a hard drive full of MP3s and a subscription to Spotify. I'm fairly sure that I will buy the squeezebox touch, as it has an app for Spotify. The question is this: being in the somewhat pleasant situation of being able to replace my full audio set up, what amp and/or speakers should I get. The speakers are less of a question, it is more the amp. I am looking for something small, but relatively powerful. I am NOT an audiophile, but I don't mind laying down a few hundred bucks/dollars/euros for a good amp. I can hear differences in quality, but I'm not ready to lay down 1000 and more. I've seen a few small amps, for example the Marantz CR502 DAB CD Receiver HiFi System. This one is about the right price/quality range that I'm looking for. But here's the thing. I don't need a CD player. I don't need a radio. This is why I'm getting the squeezebox. All I want is a good amp to which looks nice and doesn't take up much space. I plan to connect the squeezebox and a pair of speakers and that's it. And I want an amp that is really made for music. I made the compromise of getting a home cinema system with good enough speakers for music last time. I don't regret that decision, but this time, I've gotten rid of my TV. All I want the amp for is music. I'm sure there must be others out there with the same setup, so any suggestions are welcome. Thanx for any opinions/suggestions Mark -- mchassy mchassy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=48665 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89276 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Logfile in 7.6
Hello, I am not sure if this is the right part of the forum. But since I was not able to find this somwhere else, I decided to go for the general discussion. I have installed 7.6 on a X86 based QNAP NAS. SbS is running through SSOTS4 and I have not changed anything after installing 7.6. It seems to be that SbS is logging every warning. This was not the case with all earlier SbS versions. In SbS I have set all logging to on failure, but this did not help. I have added nodebuglog and noinfolog to the startup of SbS, but this resultd also in no change of the behavior. Does somebody else observe the same behavior, or is this only on the SSOTS based system? Is there some other switch to turn the logging off? Other than that, I was not able to find serious issues with 7.6. [slim] 3rd party services
3rd party services are a great feature of the squeezebox range. Logitech make a big feature of these on mysqueezebox.com. IMHO some are more equal than others - and rightly so. For example, in the internet radio arena, then surely the BBC must be rated as a world-class broadcaster with a range of services (live, listen again, podcasts) which far exceeds the offerings of most other radio providers. In contrast, the recent addition of Orange Liveradio is curious. Yet, there has been no effort to repair the failure of Touch devices to handle the BBC opml aggregated podcast listings.
