[slim] Noise on webradio with following reboot of SB3+Boom

2011-08-16 Thread gonk

Since a few weeks one of my favourite radio channels occaisonally starts
to sound like terrible noise in 2-3 seconds and then the Squeezebox
reboots by itself. Same thing happens on both the SB3 and Boom.

This can happen after a few minutes up to one hour. Other radio
stations plays fine and no problems with (FLAC/MP3) music from my
server.

The radio adress is:

http://ogg2.as34763.net/vc160.ogg - Absolute Radio Classic Rock

I yesterday upgraded the server from 7.5.x to 7.6.0 but with the same
result.

I don't understand what information in the readio stream that can cause
the Squeezeboxes, both the Boom and SB3, to reboot. Both are connected
through WLAN. Win XP server. I don't have a 100% correlation, but most
of the time it happens in the end of a song, which could (?) indicate
that there is a problem when the tag information is updated with a new
song title.

Any ideas what can casue this or anything I can do to isolate the
error?

I guess it depends on how good your eyesight is.

Anyway, using an Android phone, or an iPhone/iPad/iPod, or a netbook,

'Squeezebox Controller'
(http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Squeezebox_Controller) is a
hardware WiFi remote for the Squeezeboxes. But since you have an
Android phone, you should check out some apps that do the same job:

1) Logitech's official *'Squeezebox Controller app'
(which is free, and yes, the name is confusingly similar to the SB
Controller).

2) Flattermann's *'Squeeze Commander'
(http://www.squeezecommander.com/)* app (it costs a few bucks but is
worth every cent and more).

Re: [slim] 7.6 and MusicIP not working

2011-08-16 Thread slackhead

I have this exact same problem which I reported in the Beta forum some
time ago but nobody else had the same issue so it was ignored.

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87450

Basically the MusicIP import ends at a random point some way through a
scan rather than completing the full library. I have circa 50,000
tracks and MusicIP usually only picks up maybe 20% of these, although
this figure varies from scan to scan. For some reason it did manage to
complete a full scan at some point whilst getting 7.6 to work but I had
to do a full rescan to solve other issues and now only get a partial
scan. Having full logging enable for MusicIP does not clarify the
issue at all.

I am on Windows 7. MusicIP worked fine previously in 7.5.* and
Spicefly Sugarcube works OK currently which suggests my MusicIP
configuration is OK.

I believe there is an issue with the scanner/importer.

Hope we can get this fixed.

Cheers,
Richard

You may consider a product that allows you to display Squeezebox
information on your TV. I know I would never consider viewing on a
tiny screen across the room or on a remote control/phone when I can see
it on a large display which provides artist pictures, news, bio, etc.
It's great for parties, or when friends come over. The product below is
called Softsqueeze which integrate into SageTV Media Center (which isn't
sold anymore). However, I'm sure there must be something for Boxee (or
something like that).

I was setting up MusicIP and SBS 7.6 for a friend on Win XP and couldn't

seemed to start when I switched to the 'import all song data' but I got
fed up after about an hour of MusicIP import and no discernible

Is there a definite answer to How do I keep my Mac from going to sleep
while Squeezebox Server is running, but let it go to sleep when no music

 Thanks!

How is the music set up on your Mac? Is it on your internal drive or on
an external one?

The simple answer is that what you want *should* be automatic if you
are playing music from the internal drive. Energy Saver is supposed to
kick in after a period of time without mouse or keyboard access OR READ
OR WRITE ACCESS TO THE HARD DRIVE.

I say should and supposed because on some Macs (nobody had a
definitive answer as to whether it is software or peripheral that
causes problems), the Mac simply does not go to sleep at the assigned
time even when the conditions are met.

I ran into this issue, and used a third-party program to make my Mac
sleep. But this (and other similar programs) rely on mouse or keyboard
access only and ignore hard drive access. So I had to find a solution
to keep the Mac awake when music was being played.

If you look in the very long thread for my posts and nearby replies to
them, you will find answers. But the developer produced a simpler
approach by a plugin called Really Prevent Standby (probably without
the spaces). Try to find that.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...

2011-08-16 Thread Squid

I'm still not having a lot of success with streaming from remotely. I
limited bandwidth to 128kbps but it still won't stream well. The weird
thing is that a song will typically play perfectly for about a minute
but then random small jumps start to occur every couple of seconds.

I even have the problem at my mom-in-law's place a couple of miles from
here and we're both on the same ISP so the stream isn't even leaving the
ISP's network.

It's not the software because it works perfectly at home with my home
network. Even if I VPN through NeoRouter at home (useless, but just for
testing ldo) it still works perfect, so that's not the culprit either.

as you talk of 'small jumps': could you please check, that SqueezePlayer
is not synchronized to any other SqueezeBox. This will make either
SqueezeBox skip some frames from time to time to catch up.

[slim] Squeezeslave on FreeBSD 8.2-RELEASE: outputs errors

2011-08-16 Thread wilbert-vb

Hello there,

I'm running FreeBSD 8.2-RELEASE (minimal install) with
squeezeboxserver-7.5.4 from the ports.
I also got squeezeslave-1.1-253 compiled (without lirc) and copied
libslimproto.a to /usr/local/lib and squeezeslave to /usr/local/bin.

When I start squeezeslave (with or without parameters) I get this
error:
_
Expression 'paInvalidSampleRate' failed in
'src/hostapi/oss/pa_unix_oss.c', line: 1047
Expression 'PaOssStreamComponent_Configure( component, sampleRate,
framesPerBuffer, StreamMode_Out, master )' failed in
'src/hostapi/oss/pa_unix_oss.c', line: 1135
Expression 'PaOssStream_Configure( stream, sampleRate, framesPerBuffer,
inLatency, outLatency )' failed in 'src/hostapi/oss/pa_unix_oss.c',
line: 1241
output_thread: PortAudio error1: Invalid sample rate
_

Commands like squuezeslave -h and squeezeslave -L work fine.

I hope for suggestions to get Squeezeslave running.
Thank you very much

Re: [slim] 7.6 and MusicIP not working

2011-08-16 Thread Grahame

I'm using Music IP on windows with the 7.6.1 RC

No issues here, and I've tried it with both the Music Folder set
explicitly
and left blank (so all data is imported from Music IP, which is
faster)

Have you tried it with the Music Folder blank
and Import all song data from Music IP?

Works for me ...

[slim] Rhapsody and scrobbling

2011-08-16 Thread MeSue

I find that if I play albums and playlists through Rhapsody they are
scrobbled to Last.FM, but if I play a radio mix based on an artist or
genre, they do not get scrobbled. Do other Rhapsody users see the same
thing?

IMHO you can get an even nicer color display with a remote like iPeng.

Maybe you can find a suitable DAC to upgrade the SB3 (for less than a
 Touch?).
Also the Touch will play hi def files, while the SB3 will not.

Note that I do not have a Touch. Personally you can pry my SB3s off my
 dead, cold hands...

By like ipeng do you mean like the Squeeze commander for Android? What
is a suitable DAC for SB3?
Thanks

Re: [slim] 7.6 and MusicIP not working

2011-08-16 Thread Michael Herger
FWIW, 7.6 and MusicIP are working fine on my own Ubuntu and MacOS 10.6
 setups.

Thanks for all of your feedback! Investigating this MIP issue we probably found
a larger problem for any kind of importer on Windows: while Windows doesn't
distinguish between upper- and lowercase drive letters and file/foldernames,
SBS' database does. I realised that on my test-box it failed to import most of
MIP due to using an uppercase drive letter.

As most Unix based systems are case-sensitive, this issue doesn't hurt there
(though OSX by default is not case sensitive). And 7.5 was fine because the
database used there treated the file name's column as case insensitive too.

I hope to fix this today.
