Considering the fact that Spotify has recently partnered up with
Facebook, I'm a bit skeptical how attractive the rather small
Squeezebox market is going to look to them.

But I agree that this is the way to go if you want to get an income
from a central service like mysqueezebox.com, actually I would be
surprised if Logitech isn't financing mysqueezebox.com at least partly
this way already now.

Re: [slim] Playlist menu item missing from devices...

2011-10-25 Thread aubuti

I am also running 7.6.1, but I haven't set Playlists as a top menu item
on my ip3k players (SB2, SB3, Boom, etc). What I find strange -- and
probably related to your case -- is that Playlists is not even among
the items I can add to the home menu via Settings > Player > Menus. So
it sounds like a bug to me.

A quick search of the bugs database turns up 'Bug 17511'
(http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=17511). You should vote
for it.

[slim] Playlist menu item missing from devices...

2011-10-25 Thread muski

I customize menus to include Playlists at the top level of the menu
structure. For some reason, this menu item doesn't display on any of
my devices (SB3, Transporter & Boom) -- scroll through the top level
menu and it just jumps from 'New Music' to 'Pandora'.

It's there in the player settings for all of them (yes, I hit
apply/save). I do have playlists, and can successfully get them to
play from the web and iPhone interfaces. This used to work -- seems to
be a bug in 7.6.1?

Anyone notice the same thing? Any ideas?

[slim] AOL Radio -

2011-10-25 Thread jrbdmb

I used to have a number of AOL Radio stations set up as Favorites
pointing to the streaming URL

http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/CBS_R20_xxxP_F128.pls

where xxx is the stream number for the station. Unfortunately AOL
Radio has terminated their partnership with CBS and has now teamed with
Slacker. I wouldn't mind this except the Slacker App on mysb.com has
not yet added any of these AOL Radio / Slacker stations, and of course
the old streaming URLs no longer work.

So does anyone have either (1) news on the AOL feeds being added to the
Slacker App for the Squeezebox, or (2) a new url I can use to access the
AOL Radio feeds? Thanks.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezeCommander 0.9 for Android

2011-10-25 Thread oldfolkie

Actually I did mean the slider on the NowPlayingScreen. I just tested
it and you're right, moving the slider button doesn't move the screen
anymore. It does pop into the PlayerServerScreen when I hold my finger
on the slider area (trying to make sure I'm hitting the control), so
that's why I hadn't realize it had changed (I guess I figured that I
was just getting better at hitting the control). But I can probably
retrain myself not to do that.

On the PlayerServerScreen, the toggle popup Volume control at the
bottom solves the problem.

I had forgotten about the hardware buttons. They also work.

So thanks--that was a quick fix!

You mean the volume sliders on the PlayerServerScreen, not on the
NowPlayingScreen, right?
(The NowPlayingScreen should not be scrollable near the Volume slider
anymore.)

I already thought about adding Vol+/- buttons to the volume sliders.
But to be useful, they need to be pretty big and that really looks
clunky... :-/
(If you are using the IR-Blaster plugin, the volume slider is already
replaced by Vol +/- buttons and well, they do not look good...)

BTW: You know that you can also use the hardware Vol+/- buttons of your
phone?

Re: [slim] Good Squeezebox alternative?

2011-10-25 Thread castalla

In my opinion, if Logitech want to charge for plugins/apps then so be it
where a commercial option is normally available (eg. Spotify) but
charging simply for other 'free' services, such as the BBC, etc. would
probably kill off user allegiance.

Why pay for something which is free elsewhere? Given the actual
production cost of the hardware and the end-user price, then a free
aggregator service is the least users can expect.

Point 1 - surely the most successful role model (Apple) makes a fortune
selling hardware because their software is pretty damn good.

Point 2 - I currently pay around £50 per annum for anti virus/firewall
software, £60 per annum for Napster, and £120 per annum for Spotify. I
don't know what I would pay for my squeezebox.com, but why couldn't a
partnership be established with ( let's say spotify as an example)
Yheir marketing certainly might help!!

Point 3 - SBS has already been written. We're talking maintenance/
upgrades here are we not? ( I did say in my OP that I was perhaps being
naive)

I'm hovewer more unsure on what to think about the possibility of some
else ( or logitech ) running mysb.com for a fee .

*I think erland is correct, you can't sell that.

*I also think that is exactly what needs to happen ? But who should
pick up the tab.

A cath22 truly . But the problem is solved elsewhere , see iTunes or
Android market.

The hardware and online conectivity must be independently financed It
migth be in the future that we have all the hardware we need from
logitech ( we have all kinds of squeezeboxes we ever wanted ).
Userbase is basically stable replacing broken players.

And we only want to add new online services and content providers.

Thats why we see so called " apps " on mysqueezebox.com , they want to
be an app and service market
other providers sells apps and services to users mysqueezebox.com gets
a %

But there not that many apps on mysqueezebox.com :-/ maybe a small fee
from users will be needed anyway.

The current finacing of the online service works like a chain letter
scam, you have to sell more players to finance the cost of running the
service for the already sold players and as you have sold more players,
the cost of running the service increases ?

How many years of mysqueezebox.com was included in the price when I
bougth my squeezebox player ?

Can adds on the forum be a way to cover some cost ?

If you're going to be making modifications to the volume control, would

It can't be cheap, with space in three datacenters and bandwidth, plus
hardware and personnel costs to keep it up and running (which
apparently is quite a chore). I wouldn't be surprised to see
MySqueezebox.com shut down sometime after Logitech pulls the last of

OK lets assume 2 things

a the complexity issue can be resolved
b Logitech want out.

Logitech could then offer all current and potential squeezebox users
the choice of using the players to purely play music from local
libraries, or signing up to a ( hopefully) classy, well run, regularly

mysqueezebox.com

existing users, 12 months notice could be given before the introduction
of the charge.

If the site is professional and slick from the beginning, and the
initial cost of setting it up funded by Logitech, then the whole thing
could be presented in a very poitive light.

As to the cost of actually running it, and what the annual/monthly

of the original slimdevice could be maintained, then it could be
affordable, and actually be a selling point.

Unlikely, people are expecting it to be free, they are paying for the
premium services (Spotify, Rhapsody, ...) and mysqueezebox.com just
gives them access to the services without having a local server. Many
mysqueezebox.com users are currently only using the free internet radio
stations reachable through mysqueezebox.com, so they are currently not
paying a dime and probably want it to be free also in the future. Some
people might be willing to pay but most are just going to continue
expecting Logitech to provide it for free.

Of course, it all depends on the annual subscription fee, but I suspect
it's hard to reach enough users who are willing to pay for it to make a
profit.
How many would pay $5 per month for mysqueezebox.com ?
How many would even pay $12 per year for mysqueezebox.com ?
How many are going to pay anything at all as long as Logitech provides
mysqueezebox.com for free (even if it's not as reliable as most people
would like) ?
What will it cost to host a high reliability solution like
mysqueezebox.com ?
How many full time developers are going to be required to get everyone
to pay an annual subscription fee ?

It's probably fairly easy to reach 10% of the users (mostly through
people on this forum), the hard part is to reach the other 90% which
are required to make a profit.

I personally suspect the profit has to come from hardware sales, pretty
much in similar fashion as Logitech handles it at the moment.

also playlists use the absolute path to the file so if you moved the
files to a sligthly different path the playlist scan would not locate

this is easilly fixed by some search and replace in a text editor

Check the setting for the playlistbfolder it migth alsombeen reset

I can't help you with your main problem, but I don't see where having
both FLAC and MP3 versions of the tracks forces you into having
playlists. Most people, myself included, simply separate the FLACs and
the MP3s at the "base" of the folder tree, rather than commingling them
in the same folders. If you have some that are MP3-only, that is also
easily accommodated via shortcuts or symbolic links.

If the plugin answers the standard API command "getexternalvolumeinfo",
it should work.

E.g. for IR-Blaster, the Volume Slider will not be removed but replaced
by Vol+/- buttons.

If you go this way (which I'd be perfectly fine with, as far as I'm
concerned), you'd better provide an option to get the volume slider
back, so that people out there using some plugins that *rely* on the
(dummy) volume control events sent by the player to control their DAC
or amplifier's volume, don't get it bad.

In the next version, the volume control will be hidden in this case.
I'm not sure if replacing the Volume slider with the Progress slider
makes sense, because that would be pretty confusing for the users.
(E.g. if you have some players with fixed volume and some without, then
your Progress slider is either on top or on bottom of the page,
depending on the selected player.)

But the last state of the Overlay (with shuffle/repeat/progress slider)
is stored now, i.e. if you've opened the Overlay, it will stay open
until you close it.
Even if you restart SqueezeCommander.

I don't necessarily want a themed playlist. Just thought it would

Re: [slim] SB server will not understand m3u lists

2011-10-25 Thread pippin

Your playlist folder (setting below music folder in the web interface)
is probably not pointing to a folder containing your playlists or
subfolders with playlists.
Playlists show up empty in that case.

Which server version do you use? Generally I'd say set the playlist
folder to the same folder as the music folder but there were some
versions of SBS which did not like this, 7.6.0, I believe was one.

[slim] SB server will not understand m3u lists

2011-10-25 Thread Hans Heintz

SB2:
Had this problem before and solved it by downgrading my
squeezebox/server to about 6 years ago.
Then HAD to upgrade back because I bought iPeng on my iPhone and it
needed that.
Last week I had a strange problem where my server would not see my
player, but the network could still ping it.
I solved it by downgrading my ply/srv and then upgrading it again.
All worked as before.
Today suddenly my server would not see my collection anymore, I could
still play radio.
Rescanning my collection button (E:\audioserver) was just ignored. It
just actually did nothing and srv said to me that my collection was not
defined (or similar but just in dutch).
I solved this my renaming my collection and pointing it to some
subfolder, rescanning, resetting folder and name to previous settings
and rescan again.
But now: my playlists (which I get to by browsing folders) come up
empty again.
My playlists are simple m3u files that sit in the same folder as the
songs
example file "_ListFLAC.m3u":

01 -Myrrhman.flac
02 -Ascension Day.flac
03 -After the Flood.flac
04 -Taphead.flac
05 -New Grass.flac
06 -Runeii.flac

I HAVE TO use playlists because my collection contain both flac and mp3
versions of the songs (latter for my ipod) and technology will only
advance to the stage where songs by mediaplayers are not played twice
in about 200 years I guess.

Any suggestions to make the playlists work again please?

Most of them either promote a certain theme or they allow exchange of
playlists.
If you're using iPeng you can play the playlists right from the browser
(in iPeng).

NO! Don't recommend the old one for that!

You can use it with SqueezeCommander, and it's usable yet slow. But for
use with the official Logitech App it's not feasible.
I've got one and with the Logitech App it just doesn't work, the old
platform is too slow and some things (e.g. loading artwork) just don't
work at all.

[slim] The perfect Squeezebox remote?

2011-10-25 Thread Gadgety1

We just got a SonyEricsson Xperia Mini Pro generation II Android phone.
Running the official Logitech android app it is just the perfect remote
control. I've got two Duet controllers to compare with.

The Mini Pro is small enough to carry with you at all times, and it has
an excellent keyboard for search etc. The only disadvantage is the
screen orientation of the official Logitech android app seems to be
portrait exclusively. Would be nice if it went into landscape
automatically when opening the keyboard on the Xperia Mini Pro.

The previous generation called X10 Mini Pro is on sale everywhere.
Quite cheap, and ought to be just as useful, although the screen is
plastic. Could be worth the money just as a remote, even if you don't
need it as a phone.

I'm also hoping the new i'M Watch, which is a Bluetooth and Wifi
compatible (at least according to the write ups on various blogs)
digital watch running Android 1.6 will be able to run Squeeze Commander
on its 240x240 1.54 inch screen. Won't even need a phone to control your
Squeezebox anymore. Of course searching will be rather stifling on that
device.

Now why did I get those two Squeezebox Duet remotes?
