The TrackStatiTunesUpdate.pl script can be found in

You can find the location of the Cache directory in SBS

To run it you need perl to be installed, on Windows this means that you
need to install Community Edition of ActiveState perl:

I think Erland summarized it well, but if you want to compare pre/post
Logitech acquisition you should also know that the dividing line is
rather fuzzy. The SB3 and Transporter were the last two products sold
by Slim Devices, and the Duet was the first in the SB line by Logitech.
I understand that work on the Duet, and possibly the Boom, was underway
before the acquisition, but how much (25%? 50%? 85%?) isn't widely
known.

Functionally/architecturally speaking, the main division is SqueezeOS
(Controller, Radio, Touch) vs i3pk (SB2/SB3, Transporter, Duet
Receiver) and earlier.

Boom is functionally almost as SB3/2 .

Afaik SqueezePlay/SqueezeOS was was begun with the duet project for the
controller .

I don't know if slimdevices already was sold when the project was
initialized .
But most of the old staff was still around so a fuzzy line or you could
call it continuity .

But the new players marks a new direction more intelligence in the
players, probably necessary because the market for streaming radio and
services there is a lot of folks without local files or local server .

The importance of mysqueezebox.com aka squeezenetwork was becoming more
important

I don't want to promise what I can't deliver (or don't end up

daily basis on my tablet and am well-aware of some areas that need
improvement. :-)

 - Main thing stopping me adopting OS is being unable to support Erlands
dynamic playlists and rating via trackstat, this is an important way I
 listen to music.
 - On the tablet in landscape mode the space to the right of the artwork
 could be used better
 - Would be great to view larger/grid artwork when viewing
 artists/albums/new music etc.
 - Squeezeplayer works very well, really like the integration of the
 two

Thanks, I appreciate those suggestions and comments. I'm certainly
aware of -- and appreciate -- Erland's plugins. I used them for
several years, but in one of the painful upgrade cycles I ended up
simplifying my experience. I'll have to check them out again soon.

If you are planning a beta programme for the tablet version then let me

What's odd is that the x64 drivers are present in the system32

[slim] listen to 'Guardian.co.uk' streaming Springsteen?

2012-02-20 Thread Atlantic

The UK's Guardian newspaper is streaming Bruce Springsteen's current
album, through Soundcloud (I think).

http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblog/2012/feb/20/wrecking-ball-bruce-springsteen-easy-money

One track each day. Is it possible to listen to this through SB units
such as the SBR?

The Guardian newpaper often has various new releases publicised in this
way, but our PC browsers have media plug-ins disabled and, anyway,
listening on a PC isn't much fun; we'd much rather listen to this on
the HiFi in a comfortable room.

Does the 24/96 files play as they should ?

 Are these flac files .

Default settings should work fine, have you ever modified the file
types settings ? or do you have a custom convert.conf file you
 modified.

Streaming FLAC as WAV can break the transcoding functionality .

FLAC Native (I have disabled AIFF in the flac setting, can't remember
 why probably unrelated )

SB3 supports 24bit 44.1/48 so everything is converted to that rate even
on the digital out so if the 24/88.2 files and the 24/96 files works so
 should the other ones .

You SB3 is not modified some users have removed clock-crystals on it
rendering 48/96/192 useless for example .

What is the spec of the server ?

In the file typesw setting any relevant helper apps greyd out like SoX
 or Flac .

If you are using ubuntu in 64bits did you install the 32bit
 compatibility packet ?

Thanks for the reply, here is the answer to your questions:-

1. the SB3 can play the 24/96 without problem
2. the high res files are all AIFF
3. under the AIFF section, I choose SOX, I don't have a custom
convert.conf file
4. my normal 16/44.1 files are all Apple lossless m4a, I stream it
using PCM
5. the SB3 is in stock form, no modification
6. I'm using the Vortexbox version 2.0, the server is using Atom 510
1.6GHz, 2G ram
7. as I said in (2) (3) above, I pick SoX for AIFF
8. Vortexbox 2.0 is using Fedora 16, don't know nothing about 64bits vs
32 bits

Hope you can help

http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=17862
http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=17163

May I suggest you create another bug report for this issue ?
And also that you upload an example file to logitech ?

http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Large_File_Upload

Given the speed logitech solves bug with these days :-/
To be able to listen to the files you can do like this .
Keep the original files somewhere btw, but.

Convert the files to FLAC .

Make 24/96 or 24/88.2 AIFF copies from the 192/176.4 files or why not
48/44.1 if the only player you got is an SB3 as this is what the server
does anyway for all yor hires files.
If you also have a higher resolution player in use go for 96/88.2 as it
is not humanly possible to hear the diff from 192/176.4

[slim] Old laptop as Squeezebox player playing 96 and beyond?

2012-02-20 Thread eduardoo

I have been a happy user of a Duet running into an Esoteric K-03 as DAC.
Since the Duet is not 96 and above capable, I have been toying with
setting up a CAS with an old laptop with Foobar with Wasapi and KS
support (the Esoteric is 192/24 capable through its USB as well). On
top of running into all kinds of set-up issues, I have not been fond of
the Foobar remote control software. The Squeezebox controller and
Squeezebox app on Android operates far better.

Now, I am thinking about (if indeed possible) using that old laptop (a
core solo U1300 cpu, Win 7 Sony laptop) as a Squeezebox, with music
streamed from my Squeezebox server and output from the laptop via USB
(using high speed async mode), and using the controller to control it.

After reading through threads around the net, it seems that there are
softwares that can have a pc emulate an SB. Would Squeezeslave be the
right thing? Does it support 96 or 192? Do these software allow
output via USB async mode?

Thanks a lot.

Re: [slim] Old laptop as Squeezebox player playing 96 and beyond?

2012-02-20 Thread Mnyb

There is a special version of SqueezePlay that can do it ( search the
forum ) made by another forum member, none of the other soft players
can .

Or get a Squeezebox Touch it does 24/96 and you can still use your
controller with it if you fancy that.
The server would down convert the 96 content just as I does with the
48 content today for your duet receiver .
If your server is capable of transcoding this will be ok .

However you might find that there is no audible difference doing any of
this, don't be surprised that is the expected result if the esoteric DAC
is of proper design ( not a NOS dac or any other abomination ).

Thanks Mnyb for the quick reply.

I don't have the FLAC versions of my high res file but can convert it

Will create a bug report upload an sample file when I got home.

My 24/176.4 and 24/192 AIFF are fine when I use another player (not the
Touch), it even can be played it natively without further transcoding,
however just love the SB3+iPeng solution more. By the way, if I use
the Touch, the same file is ok, the LMS definitely can recognize the
player limitation and do the transcoding accordingly, somehow it
doesn't work for 24/44.1 and 24/48 for SB3 but work for 24/48 24/96
for the Touch respectively.
