Re: [slim] Custom Browse Menu - No Alphabetical Sorting In Albums Sub-Menus

2012-04-29 Thread kiwibrucie

Hi Erland, thanks for your response.

You wrote above:

It works in the web interface but it produce 1-10 links on the top
instead of A-Z links.
In iPeng it also works but it doesn't provide any alphabetic bar on the
right side, just dots to navigate to the next 25 albums.

I guess it can be considered a bug that the alpha bar is numeric, it's
actually designed this way because I thought it was a bit strange to
have letters that select artists in the albums menu, but when looking at
the standard menu I now see that it works this way so I should probably
see if I can adjust Custom Browse to work the same way. It's a small
change as I just need to modify the menu templates a bit, so I'll try to
include this in the next Custom Browse release.

That in a nut shell is my problem. I don't want to navigate by numbers
with thousands of albums, it's a feature that I can't see the point of.
I need to be able to navigate alphabetically by artist the same as the
standard menu, but I require the additional features/functionality of
your add-on which leaves the standard menu options in the dust!!

If you could modify the custom browse menu setting template, as you say
above, to achieve this so I can sort by artist alphabetically on the PC
web interface and Ipeng, I would be extremely happy!! :-) :-)

Cheers.. Bruce.

[slim] What is missing from your Squeezebox experience ?

2012-04-29 Thread erland

To me it feels like my Squeezebox experience hasn't really evolved much
during the last year.

When thinking back, I remember things like:
- SqueezePad announcement
- iPeng for iPad announcement
- Triode's Spotify plugin announcement

All these are things that truly made big changes to how I use my
Squeezebox system to discover and listen to music, but all are older
than a year.
If I think about Logitech provided features I need to go back to the
Radio and Touch releases to find something that really made a big
difference for myself.

But what's the next big thing we would like to be added or changed in
the future, either through Logitech or third party developers ?

I don't want a list of ideas which you think someone else wants, I want
a list of ideas which YOU want.

I don't want a list of bugs to be fixed because that's obviously
something that needs to be done, so it doesn't have to be discussed, I
like ideas of things that would make big changes to your Squeezebox
experience, it might be ideas of new software features or ideas of new
hardware, it might related to music listening or the earlier steps of
ripping and tagging music to get it into your library.

The purpose of this thread is mainly to give existing and new third
party developers ideas of things which people want, since Logitech
developers are present on this forum there is also a chance that someone
from Logitech will spot the thread and pickup some excellent ideas for
new features.

So do you have any ideas for things that would really make a big
difference for your Squeezebox experience ?
Could be either small things or big things, but let's focus on things
that will have a significant impact on your Squeezebox experience.

It should hopefully work as you like in the new 2.13.3808 Custom Browse
version which I just released, it should appear as an upgrade in the
Plugins tab of SBS/LMS Settings page.

[slim] How do you want to create/manage playlists ?

2012-04-29 Thread erland

Since the playlist management in SBS/LMS is a bit limited and most
people seems to use external software to manage their playlist it feels
like there is a need for something better in SBS/LMS.

So, some questions to people that use saved playlists and would like to
be easier.
Try to think about how you like it to work instead of how it works
today.

1. What kind of device would you like to use when creating the playlists
?
- A computer
- A tablet
- A smart phone
- A Logitech Controller, Radio or Touch display
- A IR remote
- Something else

2. How do you decide what should be part of a playlist ?
- By selecting the individual tracks you want to include
- By selecting the albums you want to include
- By selecting the artists you want to include
- By automatically selecting 100 tracks that matches some search
criteria (genre, ratings, ...)
- Something else

3. How do you decide which order the tracks should have in the playlist
?
- Random ordered tracks
- Random ordered albums
- Drag and drop albums to put them into the right order
- Drag and drop tracks to put them into the right order
- Something else

4. What's the most frustrating limitation with SBS/LMS playlist
management today ?
- That it doesn't support relative paths in playlist files which are
scanned
- That it's too hard to reorder tracks in existing playlists
- That it's too hard to create completely new playlists
- Something else

5. What kind of device would you like to use when modifying existing
playlists ?
- A computer
- A tablet
- A smart phone
- A Logitech Controller, Radio or Touch display
- A IR remote
- Something else

6. What kind of modifications do you usually do on already existing
playlists ?
- Reorder tracks in the playlist
- Remove tracks, albums or artists from the playlist
- Add new tracks, albums or artists to the playlist
- Something else

Is there anything else than the above you feel is important to take into
consideration if anyone would like to improve the playlist management ?

I understand your point of view, and under normal circumstances I would
agree. At this stage though I feel that it is pointless to think about
extra functionality while Logitech hasn't been able to deliver even one
(reasonably) bug-free firmware version for my two Squeezebox radios.
Introducing new features, while even the most basic functions aren't
reliable, is asking for (even more) trouble.

In a similar vein...

Is it possible to present 'Artist' as the first item followed by 'Album'
then 'Year' under each entry in the list when using Album/sort by
artist.

With the existing 'Album' ( 'New Albums') sorts it can be quite
confusing reading through the list and being presented with the Album
name first rather than Artist.

Thanks

I don't want to change that as default, as I think it might be bad on a
Boom where the the display isn't that wide so you might end up to only
display artist names, but you can select the Customize option in the
bottom of the menu configuration and see if you can figure out how to

Re: [slim] Custom Browse Menu - No Alphabetical Sorting In Albums Sub-Menus

2012-04-29 Thread bobertuk

Hi again erland,

I think I've found the code block used by Custom Browse to sort albums
by artist...

Code:

  option
idbyartist/id
nameSort by artist/name
itemformatalbumconcat/itemformat
menulinksnumber/menulinks
menudata
select albums.id,if(albums.compilation,' ',concat('(',
group_concat(distinct contributors.name) ,')')) from
albums,contributor_album,contributors
where
albums.id=contributor_album.album and
contributor_album.contributor=contributors.id and
contributor_album.role in (1,5)
group by albums.id
order by contributors.namesort asc,albums.year
desc,albums.titlesort asc,albums.disc asc
/menudata
  /option

If I wanted to swap around the order text output is displayed in the
WebUI:

From: Album (Artist)

To: Artist (Album)

Would that be an easy thing to do? If so - how? :)

Thanks

My experience with squeezebox degraded when you Erland decided your
plugins (and the ones of sugarcube) become commercial and payable.
Thanks to that change, i then realised lms is in fact very stable with
no 3P plugins, thank you and that i can recover a lot of free time by
sticking to the official (stable) version with no tweaking/plugins. Lms
Alone does what it's supposed to do and does it very well. As already

improvement/replacement of musicip to be integrated by Logitech in the

I really wonder what is the sense and motivation of your post and why

A slightly less heterodox use of White Bear is to play music located on
any DLNA-supporting machine on the network out through your stereo.
Whitebear creates a Media Renderer target that is your Squeezebox which
you can use through (for example) Windows Media Player's Play To
feature. This way, you don't have to put all your music in the same
place and have to rescan everything.

There is one, but since it doesn't process the link authorization (or

Also, it's browsing is a bit broken. So it's quite useless for me, it's

Re: [slim] What is missing from your Squeezebox experience ?

2012-04-29 Thread epoch1970

1st of all I will say I am happy w/ SBS 7.6 and I think Erland's
dedication to enhancing our musical experience should be praised.

For me:
#1: System actions in the playlist.
Like setting volume up/down before/after a song; playing a radio stream
for X minutes then switch to another source; etc.

#2: Proxying the local library via mySB.com.
On the move, the only protocol I am sure to have access to is HTTP on
port 80. All the rest is likely to be filtered. I don't want to open
this kind of gate on my LAN. But SBS could connect to something like
mysb.com and allow access to local files

#3: Power management integration at OS level.
Make PM-aware the native win/mac os SBS dashboards so that the software
can fight against a sleep request when playing, and disconnect/reconnect
players at shutdown-sleep/boot-wake time. Try to cook something on
linux, too. I believe a dummy usb driver would receive/handle the PM
events on any reasonable platform.
(I know srvPowerControl exists; it does more than fitting the bill a
dedicated server. But it doesn't have OS-level integration so it does
not work perfect on multi-purpose machines like a desktop.)

#4: An undead MIP-like system.
I use MIP and it kind of works. But it has its quirks and won't run on
anything other than i386 (AFAIK)

#5: Quality (which means authorized I suppose) art and metadata.
I like discogs a lot, but really I am spending too much time on that
site.

No...

Whitebear does two things:

1) *UPnP Digital Media Server*: Whitebear allows an open standard
UPnP/DLNA compliant Control Point to browse your proprietary LMS/SBS
music library. And it serves the respective music tracks in that library
to an open standard UPnP/DLNA compliant Digital Media Renderer (player).
(So for example you can use your TV Set screen and remote control to
browse your LMS/SBS music library (by Whitebear), and select tracks and
play them via the TV speakers).

2) *UPnP Digital Media Renderer*: Whitebear presents all your Squeeze
boxes as open standard UPnP/DLNA compliant Digital Media Renderer's
(players). This allows other UPnP/DLNA compliant Control Points to play
music to your Squeeze boxes by means of the Play To functionality.

The problem is not the speed of the stream but the sample rate - this
stream is a 32kHz stream.

To confirm this - can you play this 32kb/s 32kHz stream
http://somafm.com/wma/groovesalad.asx
Whereas this 128kbps is 44.1Khz http://somafm.com/wma128/groovesalad.asx
and should play OK

How does this 48Khz stream sound fast/slow/normal

Re: [slim] What is missing from your Squeezebox experience ?

2012-04-29 Thread wonder boy

Simple for me I guess...

1. When you add an album to library in Triodes spotify plugin it also
goes in under artist or indeed goes in the main album list perhaps. This
would help search or select by artist

2. When streaming spotify to lose the occasional hangs which almost
always occur at the end of a track as the next one fails to play

3. Bombproof radio alarm feed of BBC R5 via mysb.com

Still an awesome system though, even with it's foibles or 'features' as
I like to call them!

Will not play at all. Runs for a second or two and then resets to 0 and
stops. Similar behavior as on some of the pre-recorded NPR shows using
the NPR plugin.

Any way to convert all streams to 44.1 Khz? I have Lame installed but
I'm not really sure how to use it with Squeeze Server / Slave.

Re: [slim] Ground Loop?

2012-04-29 Thread Joe_M

Try reversing how the SBT's power supply is plugged into the outlet.
Sometimes switching the plug polarity will get rid of a ground loop.

If that doesn't work, try using an optical cable between the SBT and the
DAC instead of coax.

If your DAC doesn't have optical input, you could get an optical to coax
converter like this one...

http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-40019-Optical-Converter/dp/B0002GV876

However, If you use an optical/coax converter there is the risk that the
power supply for the converter will also cause a ground loop.

[slim] Audio skips when player synced

2012-04-29 Thread spindoctor

This is my current setup:

Dell tower, Pentium 4 @ 3.06ghz, 2GB RAM.

Squeezebox Server Version: 7.6.1 (Yes, I know it's a couple of versions
behind, but I wanted to try and fix the issue that I'm about to describe
before upgrading)

Kitchen: Boom - wireless
Lounge: SB3 classic - ethernet via 100MB switch
Bedroom: SB3 classic - ethernet via 100MB switch

I did have issues a while back, and the suggestion was that it was
likely wireless related. So whilst I was making other improvements to
the house, I also put ethernet cabling in to eliminate any possible
wireless issues.

The issue that I'm having is that anything I play skips or drops out
fairly regularly. And when I say reguarly, I'm talking a couple of
times every 10 minutes. It's likely to be a tiny skip or complete
silence for a few seconds.

The skips can occur when listening to BBC radio streams, DI.FM streams,
RadioIO streams or locally hosted MP3 files. I'm using the local SB
server, not via the MySB.com service.

So cut a reasonaly long story short, I've worked out that the issue is
related to syncronisation of the players.

As far as I can tell, when not syncing at all, all of the players work
as expected without skips. I can set each player up to play the same
stream individually and the skips do not occur. I can play different
streams to each player, again, without issue.

Only once I link a player to another player do the skips occur.

I have to admit that when I had issues a while back, I will have changed
the sync settings.

So, my first request is for someone to list each sync setting, with the
default values. I'd like to try these settings default setting before I
do any more damage.

Secondly, if possible, I'd like any recommendations for each sync
setting based upon the setup listed above. Please shout up if there are
any details that I've missed that may influence the information that you
give.

Thank you for your time in getting this far :)

Enhance the bandcamp plugin so that you can shop music and download
within the system .
( I could have my paypal account stored in the plugin settings ).
Downloads go to a dedicated folder unzips and scan into the dB .

Any other kind of integrated shop for lossles music ( I exemplified
with bandcamp as I know of it's existence and it looks realistic to
implement )

And yes an official music ip replacement please , so that we finally can
have smart playlists .

Tag editing via a plugin that has an UI that would work on iPeng or
SqueezePad .

Actually all of the ideas expressed in point 1-6 .

And a music ip smart playlists creator, you set up some criteria , a
seed track and some other parameters and tell it to pull up 100 tracks
and make a playlist :) and it should be fast ( 1 second ).
