Re: [slim] How do you want to create/manage playlists ?
I use the iTunes plugin so my iTunes playlists are available on my SB's. This works great but the feature I'm missing is to be able to add songs to a playlist from iPeng or SqueezePad. I don't want to use a computer for that. While I'm listening to music I don't use a computer (too big an chunky) but I find myself using my iPad a lot. Using mostly SqueezePad on the iPad, I usually lookup the artist, read biography or other artist related info. Obviously, it wouldn't make any sense to add songs to the playlists managed by iTunes but it would make sense to have LMS create, edit, add and remove songs from its own set of playlists. From SqueezePad or iPeng, long pressing a song or album, pops up a menu. There I would like to be able to add the selected song to a playlist (non iTunes playlist) of my choise. If the playlist doesn't exists then I want to be able to create it. Nothing fancy, just something very simple. [slim] Using a venues multiple node wifi network ?
Hi All My collection of Receivers will be getting an outing to a wedding, my wedding in fact ! The venue we're using is effectively like a large house will have guests spread over several rooms. The plan is to create a house party like environment. The Receivers will be used to provide sync'd music at low(ish) volumes at various locations rather than one sound source blaring away in one location. I was originally thinking that I'd just pre-configure the SB server and receivers to a spare wifi router I've got spare and use that. But yesterday the manager offered me use of the network installation they've already got. The setup seems to be competent, with good coverage using three or four access points on different channels. Using a setup with known coverage obviously has it's advantages but I'd test the range of my wifi router in advance so in theory should be able to put it somewhere that gives me what I'm after. It would obviously be easier using their stuff though, what are the implications if I do that ? Re: [slim] Using a venues multiple node wifi network ?
Does the venue's WIFI require a login page to get access (even if it is simply agreeing to the terms). This can sometimes create a problem (because you can't login to the WIFI network from the receivers like you can from a laptop. [slim] Moving from Wirelss to Wired
I have recently finished installing full cat5e around the house. Looking for advice on the easiest way to move the majority of my devices (Boom, Receiver, Touch and Radio) onto the wired network. Do I need to fully reset each device and start again or is there a quicker way? Is there any disadvantage moving them onto a wired connection (apart from the obvious)? Re: [slim] Moving from Wirelss to Wired
you obviously have to redo the network setup . Boom , hold the left arrow for a couple of seconds, you enter the firmware menu , here I think you can redo the network setup. Touch has a network menu in the advanced settings it looks possible to just redo the network . Similar on radio . Reciever however with it's rather daft UI demands a reset to setup stage a short press until slowly flashes red , then you need your controller again ( or net::udap ). There is a nerdier option on Touch and Radio , use ssh and edit the network files directly . You can always lookup members profiles to see their recent activity. It looks like andyg was here less than 10 days ago. Re: [slim] Moving from Wirelss to Wired
There is no disadvantage to using ethernet I can think of. Higher bandwidth and reduced latency should help when streaming flac files (HD files in particular) and when using sync. Of course the server should be wired as well. epoch1970's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16711 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95287 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

There have been no beta releases available for 2 weeks or so now and Michael and Andy who both used to post regularly have been absent. I hope that it's because they're busy final testing the new range of Squeezeboxes that they are about to announce (pure speculation) HeadBanger's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38024 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95285 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

So they are evolving the project to be easier to maintain and in one conversation it was mentioned that some development in making it easier for new app providers to maintain they own app was discussed . (there seems to be a new radio or music service avaible every week and logitech can't possible keep up ) The speculation that something is going on is probably not completely unfounded :) Hopefully there is new squeezeboxes ,but it could be a more anticlimactic resolve when they finished moving thier project . If you wan't to fuel more speculation where are certain forum members have they got some beta hardware and talking in a hidden beta forum ! , or just got bored and moved on in life ? Re: [slim] Using a venues multiple node wifi network ?
otherwise it should work if the whole network is on the same network and subnet , well it could work in more complicated circumstances if one as some networking skills and other geek powers . But Garys piont is a concern many free network have such limits and could have others like strict firewalls , all UDP ports blocked or similar . But why not try in advance ? I have a vague impression that mysb.com is relocating on the internet. Now some addresses resolve to Amazon AWS and I think this is new. Plus I see a few souls complain about DNS issues accessing to mysb.com these days. If this speculation has some truth in it, I expect the guys to be totally absorbed by that task. Hmm I don't think it will work, since the actual file structure on my RAID array is root/data/userid/media/music and on my laptop with Windows 7 C:\Users\Mark_Cathcart\Music and in the car it would be different again. I guess I could write editor macros called laptop, car_sd, car_hd etc. to post process. I guess what I was thinking of in my head was creating profile driven playlists. ie somewhere on a SB, either on a SB Touch which has an SD slot(can it write on read only?) or on the LMS, to select a playlist and choose export to profile either laptop, car_sd, car_hd etc. But thinking about it, to export to the laptop it would have to be laptop initiated, ie copy from the file server and change the path. cathcam's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43414 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94988 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] multiple network modems networked access same squeezebox?
So I tried running about 250 ft. of cat 5 ethernet to my workshop, but since it wasn't outdoor rated it got chewed through. Lucky it lasted lasted as long as it did almost a year. My house modem is uverse so I don't believe it supports any repeater type function. There is a shack that has power outlet half way between house and workshop. My original ethernet run upto this shack is still working. I put a spare router I have. A d-655dlink router in this shack and hooked it up to ethernet from house and it was able to retransmit my wifi. Unfortunantly the signal isn't quite strong enough to reach my shop. Squeezebox sees network but can't connect. Unlike my house 2 wire 266 network The network ID shows as Dlink on the D-655. Does this mean even if I'm somehow able to boost the D-655 signal from shack to shop the squeezebox will not be able to use the mini squeexebox server in my SB touch to stream music from memory card to all my squeezeboxes in both house and workshop? leif's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38372 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95290 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
