Re: [slim] Is Squeezebox dead?
Sending music to a synced player from JRiver Media Center via WhiteBear is broken in the current release version of WhiteBear, but AndrewFG has fixed it. LMS or iPeng or something else on the Squeezebox side must first sync the players. There are several ways to control JRMC and sending music to Squeezeboxes via WhiteBear using a web interface or an app on portable devices. JRemote for iThings is a nice app, although not as nice as iPeng yet. But one big advantage with the JRMC apps is that you can use JRMC to build your own interface that will be used by the apps. I have a rather large collection and the performance issues I have with LMS are getting worse and worse as the collection grows. It has now come to a point where I seriously investigate the possibility of pointing LMS to an empty folder and using JRMC via WhiteBear to send music to the Squeezeboxes. The kind AndrewFG is working very hard to accommodate me in every which way and I feel we are soon there. JRMC is very good for large collections and should you hit a limit of some kind you just tell the developers and they fix it, overnight sometimes. This - having a very active and responsive direct contact with the actual developers of a commercial product - is something that reminds me of how it was around here before Slimdevices was sold to Logitech. vagskal's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=20778 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96134 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Squeezeslave: 1.2 released
Hi Ralphy Slightly odd one - I've installed the raspberry build on the current raspbian OS (which seems to include ALSA), and after a little messing around, everything seems to install and run fine. I can see the client from the web control or from iPeng, turn it on and off, play tracks to it etc.. Everything seems just fine. Except, no sound. No errors that I can see - just not a peep out of it. The weird thing is that the AV processor does see the stream changing - i.e. it sees a PCM 44.1kHz stream when I hit play, and it sees the stream stop if I power down squeezeslave through iPeng. Everything seems to work - just silently.. Any ideas, or ideas where I could look? ta pete S psketch's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=56555 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93607 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Recently Played List
Hi Is it possible to get Logitech Media server to keep a list of recently played albums so that they can easily be played again. When I used to use CDs I would keep CDs that I'd just played on a shelf near the player and when the shelf got full (maybe 10 CDs) I'd put some of the items that had been on the shelf the longest back into the main CD rack. I'd like to be able to mimic something similar to this but from the My Music area of the server. Is there a plug-in maybe Cheers Stoker's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8264 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96147 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I wonder if there are any other ways of replicating the mp3tunes feature? I got answer from minus.com and it looks like they don't have any issues as long as you keep the files in private folders. I think the terms of use is a bit unclear because they mainly think about the service as a way to share data between users and not like a private data storage. I'm pretty sure we can forget about Logitech doing an integration on mysqueezebox.com though, because they would only integrate a service clearly focused at music like mp3tunes. Honestly I'm not even sure Logitech would have integrated mp3tunes, I believe that integration was done while Squeezebox was still handled by Slim Devices. If we want something from Logitech, I suspect Google Music or Amazon Cloud is the best chances, of these Google Music is likely a dead end as Google want people to purchase Android devices to stream from Google Music and is unlikely to allow Logitech to stream to a Squeezebox. However, unless I'm missing something it might be possible to do a third party applet which integrates with minus.com and that would mean that it can work on a Squeezebox Touch or Squeezebox Radio without a local SBS/LMS. It will of course still not work on the third party Android and iOS players since they don't support applets, so it's not the perfect solution, but I believe some of these third party players also has been banned from streaming from mysqueezebox.com ,so even a mysqeezebox.com solution might not work with them. The main issue with minus.com is that it might not be a good long term solution since they aren't focused at providing a private cloud music storage, due to this there is a risk they will later add restrictions that cause issues if you want to stream from it. Also, based on the API another issue is that the browsing would be restricted to browse by music folder, so you wouldn't get the full Squeezebox experience with possibility to browse the library in many different ways. A third issue is that you only get 10 GB when registering and they currently don't have any way to expand that by purchasing more storage, you can expand it up to 50 GB by inviting friends as I've understood. I'm a bit occupied in the near future, but if you still think it's interesting I'll try to get a few hours to experiment a bit as soon as possible just to see if it's possible to get a simple prototype up and running. If someone else is interested in doing an integration with minus.com, please let me know because then I prefer to focus on other activities. erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96137 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

It's very easy to do it with the excellent PlayLog plugin if you are happy using the SBS/LMS web interface to do it. PlayLog produce a list of tracks which you can view in the SBS/LMS web interface and for each track you get a play link. Except for a play link for the track you also get a link for the artist and album which you can click on to goto the search page to search for it in the local library and then hit play in the search result. If you need to access recently played songs from a remote control or do more advanced browsing of recently played songs, you will currently need the commercial TrackStat plugin which provides a browse menu for Last played (songs, artists, album) in all Squeezebox control interfaces, except for last played music it also provides a lot of other statistics based browse menus. erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96147 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Can I stream my music over the internet?
I have no problem with SSH (been doing networking for 30+ years) but I basically don't see the point in bothering with it for streaming music. Remember that SBS was written with the intention of being read only, so even if someone noxious breaks in they can listen to your music, or make you listen to some of your own music, make your music stop, stuff like that. Yeah, SBS is in Perl, which can be, well, idiosyncratic is the nicest way I can put it - but it's probably as gone-over for security issues as, say Apache (buffer overruns, etc.) so, as a platform, I'd expect it's fairly secure. No, it's not 'secure' secure (redbook or whatever they're using these days for a standard), but you're also not the government, or a corporation, so, at most, you're dealing with casual crackers, who, IMO are unlikely to be interested because there are much more profitable targets around (see above about how a break in lets you mess with what someone's listening to, or listen a bit yourself). SSH can be expensive, in terms of computing power required to encrypt a stream. Yeah, I run commercial firewalls with separate encryption processors, but the whole notion of encrypting a music stream just strikes me as wrong. Yes, you can setup an unencrypted SSH (or VPN) stream, and yes, this would be a more appropriate way, and does seem to offer some benefit (2 way cert verification) but it becomes a pain if you're trying to run the client end on a number of boxes. Anybody else got thoughts about this? Am I missing something basic? I'm something of an obsessive performance geek when I get the time. I've tried ZFS in the NAS, adding SSDs to the ZFS, using 15K enterprise disks with a caching controller; using an SSD in the LMS box, an additional jumbo-framed SAN, and running LMS on CPUs way too powerful. Amongst other things. All a waste of time and money. With dbhighmem enabled, what made the biggest difference to performance for me is this: push @{$sql}, 'PRAGMA cache_size = 200'; in Utils/SQLiteHelper.pm. I saw nothing that indicates access to pandora, mog, spotify, siriusXM, etc. or even just free internet radio streams. Also, the multiple player aspect seems to be multiple zones all tied to the player (hardwired) versus multiple room players (connected via ethernet or WIFI) that are synched. Hard to tell from the web discussion. Also a bit confused by the soundcard discussion. One of the things I like about Squeezebox stuff is that it is not related at all to whatever soundcard I happen to have in the computer running LMS. username/password are sent as clear text so you don't have to be a hacking genius to get them is you can get in the middle of a request. And if you have those, you have access to LMS.
