I did this recently. I had to enable it from one of the SB3's menus,
can't remember which menu but it was easy to find. After that just
plugged it in and it worked.

You're welcome to the name!

Pity your distro wasn't available for the Cubieboard!

That's my only doubt about the project that it's so locked down to the
Wandboard - can't justify to SWMBO any more expenditure on plastic
bits'n'pieces ...

As far as I understand, there won't be anything binary-only locked down
to the Wandboard, so it should be fairly straightforward to adapt it to
any other similar-style hardware.

CubieBoard is A8 with NEON. You just take the rootfs from my image and
roll your own kernel/uboot for the CubieBoard. I'll have a look this
evening. Got to admit that I know nothing about the Cubieboard other
than what I just read. But I have no doubt that we could make a working
image for you.

Thanks all:

I just switched to U-verse and the TV box is complaining that there is
no HDMI signal when the TV is turned-off.

This is a problem when trying to use Slingbox, which is attached to the

Maybe if I turn-off the HDMI switch

Have been lurking on this thread for a while, reading every post ...
although admittedly most of the technical discussion is over my head.
It's very exciting stuff. I wish you all the best and will eagerly buy

I apologize in advance if this takes the thread too far off topic, but
does it strike anyone else as sad that Sean, Dean, and the rest of the
Squeezebox crew aren't (or more likely -can't-) be a part of this
development? It had to have been their passion for many years, and now
they're all absent from it. Seems a shame.

[slim] Usage of online services in your family ?

2013-02-26 Thread erland

For those of you who are living together with a spouse or kids, I'd like
to understand a bit better how you would like to use premium online
streaming services. Ignore what's supported in LMS and Squeezebox today
and instead think about how you would like it to work in the future.

One limitation I still want to apply is that with one online streaming
account you will still only be able to stream a single song to one
device or to multiple devices synchronized, basically no possibility to
play different songs to different devices simultaneously as this usually
is prohibited by the streaming providers and won't change in the
future.

The questions I'm wondering about is related to if you have separate
premium streaming service account for each family member or if you are
using one account for the whole family.

If you have separate accounts, is the main purpose of that to be able to
stream simultaneously or is it mainly to be able to keep track of
individual favorites and playlists ?

If you have separate accounts, do you feel it would be important to be
able to listen to the music from one of the account on all player
devices in the house ?

If you have separate accounts, do you have accounts from different
streaming providers or does all family member use the same streaming
provider ?

If you have a single account for the whole family, are you severely
missing the ability to keep track of individual playlists or favorites
for each family member ?

Do you have any ideas how you would like online streaming services to
work on your Squeezebox and portable devices from a family perspective ?
How would your dream system handle it ?

I'll post a separate thread for local music, so don't use this thread to
say that you don't use online services.

[slim] Usage of local music libraries in your family ?

2013-02-26 Thread erland

For those of you who are living together with a spouse or kids, I'd like
to understand a bit better how you would like to use local music
libraries in the future. Ignore what's supported in LMS and Squeezebox
today and instead think about how you would like it to work in the
future.

Do you have a need to let each family member browse their library
individually ?

If so, where are the music files stored ? On a central computer/NAS, on
a computer/NAS per family member or on the portable device of each
family member ?

If you have individual libraries, do you also have a need for shared
libraries which is common for multiple family members ?

Do you have a need to keep track of playlists for each family member ?

Do you have a need to keep track of favorites for each family member ?

Do you have a need to keep track of ratings and playback statistics for
each family member ?

Does each family member have individual players which only one of the
family members mostly use ?
If so, should all players be controllable by everyone or do you want
access to certain players to be restricted ? In that case why ?

Does each family member have their individual remote control/smartphone
to control the players or do you also have remote controls which you
share between different family members ?

If you have a remote control which you share between multiple family
members, is it a IR-remote, smartphone, tablet or computer ?

How would your dream system work to work as good as possible for usage
of local music on Squeezeboxes and portable devices in your family ?

Re: [slim] Usage of local music libraries in your family ?

2013-02-26 Thread JohnSwenson

It's my wife and me, no kids.

We have one library on a VB server. We keep things separate with
individual Genres, mine start with J_ and hers start with C_, there are
overlap in genre types but we keep them separate. In the same way
playlists etc are labeled with a J_ or C_. We have to be careful when
ripping to make sure the right genres are used.

We have separate players, and our own separate android phones and IR
remotes in the different rooms. My wife prefers the older SB3/IR remote
interface and I'm mostly using phone/squeezeplay interface although
sometimes I use the IR remote when the phone won't connect to the wifi
for some reason.

Remote lock out is not really an issue. Although once or twice while I
was playing with settings and running tests on a Touch in the lab it
accidentally went to her sewing room, she almost hit the ceiling when
this blast of pink noise came out!

My wife has an iPod, we use VBs MP3 sync for that.

If we could have a system that supported multiple libraries and it was
easy to switch between them, that would be ideal. We do occasionally
listen to music in each other's set and do need to switch once in a
while.
