My Wandboard should arrive Thursday. Looking forward to that. Two quick questions: 1. Is it possible to have the Wandboard output audio on SPDIF and analog at the same time? 2. Will the JS board come with trigger outputs? All outputs can physically be on at the same time, whether they can in actuality is a mater of software. Currently I don't think squeezelite supports more than one output, BUT it can certainly be done using the ALSA duplication technique used in the Touch. Which board? The csp1 board will not have dedicated control outputs. They can easily be added using USB. . By using USB you can get exactly what you want with drivers that already exist. There are literally hundreds of USB to control boxes out there at very inexpensive price points that can cover just about anything anybody may want. The complement of IOs on CSP2 has not been decided. My personal preference is to not put dedicated connectors on the player for things that can easily be done with USB. It's just that I'm having this nightmare that the back of this thing keeps on expanding larger and larger as I put more and more dedicated connectors on the back. The problem with that is nobody is going to want to use all of those different things simultaneously, I would rather have a couple extra USB jacks that can be used for many different things. I'm not trying to brush you off, I'm very carefully listening to all such requests, I'm just trying to come up with solutions that can accommodate as many different interfaces as possible with the least amount of back panel space and and development effort. Part of the problem here is that If I add connector A at 3.3V, microseconds later someone else will want 5V, Then someone else will want 12V, then someone else wants connector B, then 18V AC, then By saying all such things are covered by USB, I need one jack with one set of electronics driving it, the user can choose amongst the hundreds of available USB to control interfaces available to get exactly what they want. John S. Thanks for the clarification John. I understand it is difficult to address everyones whishes and dreams in such projects. Ill soon have the possibility to play with the wandboard myself. Im a total Linux noob but I see this as an opportunity to get me more familiarized with it. Maybe a thought: I guess we could divide the target audience of this project into two larger groups. A first group who wants a single box with a high quality internal DAC. A second group would want a box with only digital outputs to be connected to a variety of external DACs. Maybe it is easier to just develop two different piggy back boards for the Wandboard that addresses the needs for the audience in group A and another board that addresses the needs for group B. This might be a way to reduce the number of connectors on each piggy back boards? I also like the modular approach and maybe USB is indeed another way to achieve that. Mnyb wrote: Meaning that the DAC kit will not include any wand board ? If that's the case I'll get one in 1-2 months , ( I will get into a period of a lot do to professionally will not be home much , will be on custommer sites ) . When the carrier board is released a link to what would be a proper power supply would be good too , or will it be included ? In addition to what Jackofall mentioned, remember there are two phases: csp1 which is a beta test, only a small number will be made and csp2 which will be a general release. Csp1 is going to just be a carrier board, the users will need to buy a wandboard, case, PS etc. and assemble the pieces themselves. The CPU module from the wandboard will need to be swapped to the csp1 carrier. The only tool needed is a screwdriver and maybe pliers if you want to use wifi. Exactly how csp2 is going to be distributed has not been completely worked out yet. We would like to make available several options, such as a kit and a fully assembled box. We might be able to offer the carrier board by itself, or maybe a complete kit with all the pieces from one place, or some intermediate method, we don't know exactly how this is going to work out yet. It's going to take some time to get all this worked out. We are trying to come up with multiple options so someone can get parts and do the final assembly themselves, thus saving some money, or spend a little more to get the fully assembled box. We are not trying to be secretive, the details simply have not been worked out yet, there are no concrete details at this point. So IF you are planning on being on the csp1 beta test group you will definitely need to purchase your own wandboard, the dual model. If you plan on using wifi you will need the antenna, the csp1, will NOT use the wandboard plastic case, it is using a specific Hammond aluminum extrusion case. The power supply used for a wandboard will be usable for csp1. Be careful, some wandboard distributors include a PS, many do not. Csp1 will include a micro USB port as a power port, you can use either the barrel or the USB port for power (just not both at the same time) If you get a wandboard now, can you reuse it's cpu for later releases? Maybe, we don't know yet whether we will be releasing the later products without cpu modules. BTW there is no official beta group yet, no official list. When csp1 is getting closer to being available we will do that. So don't start trying to jockey for position in the list just yet, any such requests are going to be ignored (at least by me) at this point. I want to focus my attention on getting boards designed and working first. For everybody, please be patient, this project is being worked on in people's spare time, it's going to take some time to get the different pieces of this done correctly. I know a lot of you are excited about this, but don't expect a finished product immediately, there is a lot to do and it IS going to take some time to get it all done. John S. Hi, Do you know cubox http://www.solid-run.com/cubox ? It's stable, well finished, come with esata, spdif, 2x usbsupport, support lot of linux distribution like xbmc... There's already a french audiophile project based on cubox+upnp+airplay http://www.forum-audiophile.fr/musique-demat/un-streamer-audio-drive-reseau-sur-cubox-t35758.html It could be perfect for a touchbox replacement, more expensive than a rasberry pi but cheaper than Wandboard. enestu's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37825 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97881 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Pre-Announcement: ickStream Music Platform
As some people might have guessed already, some of the poll threads I have been posting during the last year was really related to ickStream. So as an example, if you didn't answer the playlist management related poll previously, it might be a good idea to go back and answer that thread now if you are interested in ickStream and saved playlists containing local or online music, you will find the thread here: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?94988-How-do-you-want-to-create-manage-playlists Also, if there is anything special you have always wanted LMS/Squeezebox to do which it doesn't support yet, please let us know through this pre-announcement thread and we will consider if it's something that fits ickStream. Generally we will consider all ideas but we will of course have to prioritize which ones we implement and in which order we implement them. erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98467 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Community Funded Squeezebox Replacement - Would you be interested?
The purpose of John others is to build a true audio platform in which wandboard chip will be the core as it is meant to be integrated in different systems (which is not the purpose of the cubox). Moreover, a nice HW audio interface is currently being built. This is a long thread, but it is worth reading to understand the choices which have been made. btw, cubox is $119 (including power adpter and case) which is not significanlty cheaper than a wandboard ... eLR!C's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=19360 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97881 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Yes I have a cubox and it works well with external usb dacs. Its lower powered than the wandboard, but perfectly ok as as player and potential display. However what it does not offer is the ability to add high quality audio electronics to the base player which is what the purpose of the project is. We chose the Wandboard as it has a cpu module which can be unplugged from the default carrier card and used in our carrier card which will have more audio electronics on it - suggest you read the rest of the thread. That module has NAND flash on the module. The wandboard module does not have the NAND flash but instead has a micro-SD card slot. There are some very good reasons for prefering the SD card rather than NAND flash. That said the Technexion module probably WILL work, as long as you have the necessary setup to program the NAND flash. John S.
