Re: [slim] Beats Music to replace MOG..Where does that leave Squeezebox?
Just got this from Beats Music: Thanks sincerely for your loyalty to MOG. It means everything to us that you stuck with us while we created the next generation of streaming music services, Beats Music, using the great foundation of the MOG team and product. As you may know, Beats purchased MOG more than a year ago because we too were in love with its fidelity, simplicity, and mobile capabilities. Our goal was to go a step beyond where MOG or any other service had gone, to be more than a server, to be of service to the listener. We wanted to build an app that helped us discover music the way we discover music, through trusted curators, but that uses computers for what they#8217;re good at, personalizing an experience to bring the right song, right now. The result is Beats Music, an app now available for *iPhone, Android, Windows Mobile, Web, and Sonos*, an app that not only has all the on-demand subscription features you came to love in MOG but also more ways to find the right song to listen to right now than any other app on the planet. With Beats Music you should always be one hand and a maximum of five seconds away from something great to listen to without needing to think or type in a search box. If you#8217;d like to search or build your own playlist, please do. But on those many moments when you#8217;re looking for a quick fix, Beats Music delivers. My reply: Dear Mr. Rogers There is a substantial group of MOG subscribers who chose the MOG service because of a smart decision that MOG made a couple of years back. This decision was to provide a way to interface the MOG service with the Logitech Squeezebox music server system that would provide control and listening through the Squeezebox hardware. Basically it was a plug in that could be activated in the users local server (computer) that then allowed you to access MOG directly through any Squeezebox in your house. MOG did this at the request of Squeezebox users and we have remained loyal. When MOG goes dark, I suspect this capability will not extend to Beats music. If that is correct, then that entire group of MOG users will switch to the only other service with 320k files that is Squeezebox accessible. And that service is Spotify. I don#8217;t even know if it#8217;s possible for Beats to create such an interface today, because Logitech#8217;s support of the Squeezebox architecture has suffered dramatically. Still, there#8217;s a huge universe of these network streamers worldwide and a lot of people loved listening to MOG over them. Maybe you can check with your network group to see what plans there are (if any) to keep these customers. Thanks for your consideration. John S. [slim] Moved music folder - how to tell iTunes?
I moved my music folder to my NAS a while back. All is well from a Squeeze standpoint. However, I was running Itunes on my PC with music on the PC. So now iTunes cannot find the music. If I re-load my library using iTunes, then it will also want to re-copy all my music to my Ipods. Bad idea.. I found that the music location is defined in the iTunes Music Library.xml file, so changed the path statements in all of those, but this does not fix it. All of the web searches yield solutions to get iTunes to move the music, or to move the library loacation, whereas what I need to do update the iTunes libray with the new pointers. There is a file called iTunes Library.itl which is an iTunes database file, and I suspect is created from the xml file. I am sure some other forum members must have had the same issue, so any advice would be welcomed. yeomanspc's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=249 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100806 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Moved music folder - how to tell iTunes?
I haven't used iTunes in a long time, but I recall there was a place in the preferences boxes where a user may set the library location. All without messing with configuration files that are meant to hold the settings, not be manually edited. Naturally, you should have your NAS share mounted on your PC before you try directing iTunes there for your music library. aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100806 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Moved music folder - how to tell iTunes?
Yes, you can tell it where the library is, but if the music files are not stored in the iTunes library (there is no way i would let iTunes manage my music files/tags/structure) then the library basically just has a pointer to the physical location of the music file (this is an entry for each and every music file). This is in addition to a lot for metadata about each music track. So.. I am not moving the iTunes library, but I have moved the music which the itunes library records point to. I have discovered that the .itl file appears to be the master, and that it creates the xml file when itunes loads - so changing the xml file with a different location is futile because it just creates a new one at the next startup.. yeomanspc's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=249 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100806 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Moved music folder - how to tell iTunes?
Sorry for the mixup. I meant that you could tell iTunes where the _files_ are stored (to me, the library is the tracks, not the metadata/catalog, which is what you are calling the library). In other words, within the iTunes interface you could set that pointer to the directory branch containing the music files. Maybe that's no longer the case with newer versions of iTunes. Do you need iTunes for anything other than loading iPods? If not, the shortcut to sanity would be to use one of the iTunes alternatives and cut iTunes out of the equation all together. On Windows, CopyTrans Manager is great for loading iPods sans iTunes. Sorry I couldn't be more help, but I expect another iTunes-using forum member will have an answer for you. aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100806 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
