Ronnie,

I do have some tips and tricks but these are specific to my build. These
involve the FLIRC adapter I use, how to sent a Wake-On-LAN command from
piCorePlayer so my LMS server powers up, issues with JiveLite and their
solutions and tinkering with other VU meter skins. I already posted
these solutions in other threads, but I can post them here as well if
there is interest.

I am no Linux wizard so most of it was trial and error and a bit of
Google :D

No problem. That's the nice thing about a Raspberry Pi based solution:
everybody can build one according to their own personal preference.

I thought about the Audophonics kit, which represents decent value for
money in my opinion, but decided against it and went for a
piCorePlayer/Official 7" display/Jivelite solution. The OLED display is
too small to be readable from a distance of a few meters.

Oh that's a shame Arie.

You saying you have built a few for some friends, I thought you might
have lots of tips and tricks to encourage a few of the fence sitters.

Any "how to" and snaps are always useful on here (as you have been
finding out, I guess).

I used to work quite a bit in the old "flatland". Hope things are well,
over with you.

Ronnie.

Yes, Also that is the DAC+ Pro in the picture.

I havent listened to it a large amount (its a development mule) but I
think the DAC+ and DAC+ Pro sound every bit as good as the Receiver or
SB3

But the newest drivers for the low jitter clocks are not yet available
in PiCorePlayer so may improve sound quality

@kolossos4730 all information is welcome. But to be honest, I doubt I
will end up with a 5" or 7" touch screen. A nice case and a good power
supply for the RPi is more likely. Let's say, more of the AudioPhonics
approche ;-)

Ronnie,

It really is no more than a list with product links to a few Dutch
websites. I'm not sure if this is relevant for users from other
countries.

Re: [slim] Building the best Pi LMS Player

Interesting alternative for the Raspberry Pi (not price-wise):
_UP_-_Intel_x5-Z8300_board_in_a_Raspberry_Pi2_form_factor
(\"https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/802007522/up-intel-x5-z8300-board-in-a-raspberry-pi2-form-fa/description\;)_

Raspberry Pi GPIO compatible according to the developers.

I'll go looking for the original files and see what this would entail. I
can't promise anything right now but I'm sure it's something I can
tackle...soonish, if not immediately.

I think it would probably be good for them to say something other than
"Squeezebox Touch" for the sake of other devices. I'm open to
suggestions.

I've updated the player firmware but still no joy.

Re: [slim] Building the best Pi LMS Player

2015-11-18 Thread jstraw

I've located the original files for the vintage meters and the upshot is
that it's going to be easier for me to build something from scratch than
to scale those old files up.

I'll do this, but please be patient with me. I'm very gratified that
people are fond of those meters. The new ones will not be identical.
They will be very similar and I hope you can trust me to make them
better than the last ones.

Some questions:

I definitely want to replace the words "Squeezebox Touch" with something
that's not product-specific. I'm open to suggestions. It wouldn't be too
hard to make more than one version of text...and dark and light
versions.

I'd like to future proof these by making them easy to scale down from
the largest likely display. What size should I shoot for, 10" displays?
What are the pixel dimensions for that size?

Lastly, and please understand that this is not intended as extortion
because I will make the new version regardless. Is there anyone here
that enjoys building these contraptions enough to make me one if I
either pay for or purchase and provide the hardware? Seriously, only if
someone enjoys making them...
