[slim] HTTP 505 Error -- now affects both chrome and IE for me
This is for Michael Herger -- I'm now locked out of the iPeng support thread on both browsers. Also tried to send this via private message to you, but after sending, the message didn't show up in my sent folder, so I'm not sure it actually got sent. You wrote: I've received reports that Chrome would cause issues recently. And it's always this kind of "this thread and this thread only". Seems to be a known issue with Chrome, one reporter said. Unfortunately he didn't give me any source for his claim (so far). LMK if there's anything I can send to anyone for troubleshooting. thx. Re: [slim] does anyone still use squeezelite anymore instead of chromecast audio and if so why?
it appears that the dac in the choromecast audio is 24/192 but the chromecast audio can only go up to 24/96 in its current form;. For its price though nothing touches it (including the pi) - this seems quite interesting; http://archimago.blogspot.co.nz/2016/02/measurements-google-chromecast-audio.html My two main listening areas have Onkyo amps in now with chromecast audios in, there are another 7 zones so I can utilise various old kids powered speakers for kids bedrooms. Our outside zones have chromecast audios feeding cheap and cheerful amps driving outside speakers under the eaves of the house https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Breeze-Audio-TPA3116-HiFi-2-0-Audio-Stereo-Digital-Power-Amplifier-Advanced-50W-50W-Sound-good/32664243769.html I use Plex for all my bluray rips already so it makes sense for me to use this for music as well (to supplement the streaming services). The big plus point for the CC audio is that its a simple device that just works - there is no trickery required - and the sync is absolutely perfect. all 9 zones are in earshot of each other and there is no drift whatsoever - something i was never able to achieve on Squeezelite/LMS despite spending hours and hours of trying. The family really love it. What is missing is someone to hack a squeezebox style portable radio together using a chromecast audio inside and an old 4 inch touch screen device and package it up to look like nice. ashleyw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58923 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106113 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Spotify and Synchronization - testers needed
Spotify plugin. But as far as synchronization I have had no real issues it. I didn't expect any of the 3rd party solutions to have problems. After all that's why I did the Spotify Protocol Handler in the first place... I specifically asked users _NOT_ using any of those plugins to confirm. -- Michael ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

The > downside is that when I replace an MP3 rip of a particular CD with a > FLAC one I can, and do, end up with 2 copies of the CD on the backups. > > Or does the backup software allow you to mirror without deletions ? excellent point and I agree. This is why all my backups are not created from a single "master". I didn't go into all that, but more specifically, I have 3 working systems (home, office, and weekend cottage). Each of these has a "master". Additions/deletions from these 3 masters are NOT done automatically. I manually add new files, remove duplicates, etc. The only comparisons I do are that when all 3 are manually updated with changes, I can check to see that the (1) total number of files/directories, (2) total number of tracks, and (3) total number of albums are all identical. Then at each of these 3 locations I have backup HDDs that I use freefilesync to keep in sync with the master from that location. At office and weekend cottage I only have one external backup HDD. At home (which I consider the "main" system) I have two USB HDDs containing synched copy of "home" master. The backups are stored not connected to power or a computer. The downside of this is that I have to keep a temporary drive containing files I need to add to all 3 locations and keep a log reminding me what I need to do at each location to keep all up to date. This sounds way more complicated than it is. Just a few lines in a file, with some dates that things happened so I know the status. I suspect that I am not as good about keeping track of minor tagging tweaks across the 3 locations, but I do try. The upside is that I have 3 parallel systems, all with backups, and the files are not cross-contaminating across the 3 sets. Accidental deletion at one location doesn't taint another location. And after adding new files, deleting files, etc. at any location, I always confirm that the totals mentioned above are consistent across the 3 locations. Again, all sounds complex, but really simple and something I just do on a regular basis (I add new rips, etc. (or re-rips in FLAC of old mp3 rips) about every week or two; I don't add files each time I rip a new CD and instead wait until I get a week or two's worth and then do all the updating. *Home:* VortexBox 4TB (2.3) > LMS 7.8 > Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio (all ethernet) *Cottage:* VBA 3TB (2.3) > LMS 7.8 > Touch > Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio) *Office:* Win8(64) > LMS 7.9 > Squeezelite *Spares:* Transporter, Touch(3), Radio(3), Boom, SB3, CONTROLLER *Controllers:* iPhone6 & iPadAir2 (iPeng8 & Squeezepad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.8 on Win7(64) laptop *Files:* ripping: dbpoweramp > FLAC; post-rip: mp3tag, PerfectTunes; Streaming: Spotify garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106109 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Cross referencing 2 large music collections ?
I'd suggest that the mirroring approach only fulfills half of the requirements for a good backup. What happens if you accidentally delete some files on your main drive but don't notice for a period of time. A period of time during which the "deletion" has been written to your backup. I use rsync from my main server to 2 others. One is local (i.e. in my house), the other is remote but I don't sync deletions. The upside is even if I accidentally delete a file its still on the backups. The downside is that when I replace an MP3 rip of a particular CD with a FLAC one I can, and do, end up with 2 copies of the CD on the backups.
